Fairy tale...these words popped into my mind when I began reading this story. And as I proceeded with the story, I realized that it was indeed a modern day representation of a classic fairy tale; one that we all have come to like and love while growing up.
The prologue itself had a magical element to it; on which couldn't help but make the reader in me get sucked into the world of Arnav and Khushi, in a far away and more importantly, lesser known place like Landour.
The flashback showcasing the teenage years of the protagonists wherein falling in love was so easy and so surreal that it made me forget, if only temporarily; the sorrow that was a vital part of their lives. For a while, the fact that the two had themselves for each other was enough.
The tale did not have a villainous character; it was just the circumstances as also the intermix of the individual characters riding the decisions mad and the subsequent actions taken that was a cause for the painful separation. It made the tale all the more realistic, bringing to the fore a very well founded aspect that you do not need an external element which would act as a hurdle, sometimes it is all within us and that one has to overcome it all, give oneself a second chance in life.
There was love in this one, a generous sprinkling of pathos, underlying currents of melancholy. But more importantly, there was splendid story which wove each and every of the aforementioned elements and rooted the reader till the end.
It was easy to fall in love with Arnav Foster, a natural to feel the pain of rejection and betrayal that Khushi underwent as also the burden she had to shoulder for a long time. Branny felt such a vital part of the story that I smiled when he was delighted on seeing Arnav, gulped back a sob when he hesitantly called Arnav Daddy' and had a difficult time placating my harried heart when his condition turned for the worse.
From the two of them being more or less alone to having a full house, the journey that A late spring' unveiled was nothing short of fantastic. Add to it the presence of small trivia, may it be the one on the spring bulb, the changing seasons, love as also the songs which were perfect for the respective occasion, we have a sure shot winner.
My only regret...this story was delayed in getting read by me.😊
