PART 5

Virat and Manvi entered the Shine, Ria had taken extreme care in decorating the hall as it was lit up with candles and balloons were hanging at each pillar.

"Do you see Ria," Manvi asked Virat who was looking around trying to find either Ria or Karan.

"Hey, you finally came," Ria said suddenly coming up from nowhere, "I was just about to give up on you and cut the cake." And she dragged the two of them near the cake.

After the cake was cut everyone started making their way to the dance floor, Ria was dancing with Aditya from their class and Karan with Sonia. Virat and Manvi however were glued to the side as neither one wanted to ask the other to dance.

"Ask me to dance Virat," Manvi thought. "I didn't get all dressed up just to stand and stare at the dance floor."

"Come on guys why aren't you dancing." Ria came up to Virat and Manvi and shouted so that she could be heard over the music. Virat looked at Manvi eyeing her to follow him to the dance floor.

"Phew, I thought we'll never get to the dance floor." Manvi thought as she made her way to the dance floor with Virat.

"It's a good thing the songs are a fast number." Virat thought feeling relieved that he didn't have to make close contact with her because he knew that he will not be able to resist himself.

"I'd love to meet uncle and aunty, Virat," Manvi said trying to get away from the awkwardness between them.

"Huh, oh maybe some other time," Virat said distractedly. "They are out of town."

"Too bad, thought I can over tomorrow with Ria before we go back to uni." Manvi said.

The music suddenly changed from "badtameezdil" to "tum hi ho". Virat and Manvi stood about 2 feet away from each other for almost 5 seconds of the song.

Manvi was waiting for Virat to pull her close and dance to the music but seeing that he had no intention of wanting to come close she got upset and turned away to walk away when she felt his touch at her wrist. She felt a tingle in her heart at his touch. He pulled her closer to him putting one hand on her waist making her whole body feel numb, all the while keeping his eyes fixed on her. They started swaying to the music and got lost in each other and transported in to a world of their own. They didn't pay attention to anyone around them but had their gaze fixed on each other.

Few minutes later though the song ended and another fast number came up.

"Want to get a drink," Virat asked Manvi his mood suddenly changing.

"Sure, I guess. " Manvi replied not at all amused at the fact that the moment had passed and Virat was back to being his usual, distant self he had been since recent.

They made their way to the drink stable when a girl came up from nowhere and flung her arms around Virat.

"Virat, where have you been all this time, you never replied to my texts, or answered my calls." She was going on.

"I've been a bit busy," he said not even bothering to push the girl away from him. He turned to Manvi and said, "You go get something to drink, I'll be just a while," And went on to chatting with the girl.

"Urghhh, why do you always push me away, Virat, sometimes you act like you care about me too but then other times you act like you don't care at all." Manvi thought to herself feeling hurt and frustrated. She looked back and saw Virat still talking very closely with the girl. She couldn't take it anymore and decided to get some fresh air.

It was a beautiful night, the stars were shining, and there was a bench outside in the garden so she decided to just sit and clear her head for a while.

"Hey Manvi, what are you doing here by yourself." She heard from behind and turned around to find Nikhil, who was in her Accounting class.

"Just came out for a bit, it's a beautiful night."Manvi said.

"Yeah, it is, and you're looking really pretty." Nikhil said. "Hey do you want to dance."

"Sure why not." Manvi said. Virat was otherwise occupied and even if he wasn't he would think a thousand times before taking her to dance again anyway.

Virat had finally gotten away from Tanu, wondering where Manvi had gone to he started looking for her across the hall, when his attention was drawn to Manvi dancing with Nikhil.

"What the hell, how dare he touch Manvi," he thought to himself and furiously walked across the dance floor and pulled Nikhil away from Manvi.

"Virat, what's wrong with you." Manvi shouted at him.

"Virat, what the hell man?" Nikhil shouted at Virat angrily.

"She's with me." Virat said and pulled Manvi by the hand and took her outside.

"Virat, how dare you, what's your problem, I was just dancing with Nikhil." Manvi said in an angry voice.

"I told you I'll be with you in a little bit. And you go around dancing with someone else." Virat said trying to explain his actions.

"Virat, I can't take this anymore, you get close when it's convenient for you and then completely push me away when it's not. I don't know if you've noticed Virat but I love you. I've loved you ever since the time I understood love, I've never stopped thinking about you from the first day I met you. I don't know when some crazy crush turned into love but it did. I may not be your type Virat but you are mine and it's too hard to be your friend anymore. It's too painful because I know you'll never feel the same way about me." Manvi said while trying to control the tears that were threatening to fall from her eyes.

Virat tried to come close to calm her down.

"Don't touch me Virat, I thought I can be just your friend but I can't" Manvi said and the tears that she was trying to keep from falling couldn't be bottled up any longer and she turned around and ran back inside.

"Manvi," Virat called out but he didn't have the courage to go after her, "I'm so sorry Manvi, I never meant to hurt you." he said with a broken voice a lone tear falling down his cheek.

"Virat, what happened,?" Ria came up from behind and called out. "Manvi was so upset she wanted to go home." Karan was dropping Sonia off at the university so I had him take her, she was a mess."

Virat sat silently and listened without saying a word.

"It's my fault, I really thought you cared about her more than a friend, that's why me and Karan planned to set the two of you up." Ria said. "Virat, I always thought you were one of the good guys, but no, I told you not to give her hopes but you did, and now look."

"I do care about her a lot Ria," Virat said softly. "When she said she didn't want to even be my friend I felt my entire world fall apart."

"You're in love with her Virat, why don't you understand that." Ria said.

"Because I'm scared, afraid I might turn out like my father." Virat said.

"Virat, just because you're parent's marriage failed doesn't mean you are going to turn out the same way." Ria said touching Virat shoulder and making him understand.

"Virat you need to go and tell Manvi how you feel before it's too late." Ria said giving an encouraging smile to him.

"Do you think she'll ever forgive me?" Virat asked.

"Virat the girl is madly in love with you, of course she will forgive you. Now go before it's too late.

Virat ran out to the garden, got in his car and drove off. Hoping and praying that Manvi will talk to him.

"Manvi are you sure, you're alright," Karan asked as was getting out of the car at her hostel building.

"Don't worry Karan, I'll be fine, I'm really sorry to trouble you." Manvi said in a sad voice.

"What are friends for right," Karan said, "Ria won't be back till morning but if you want to talk I'm here." Karan said.

"Thanks Karan, but I'm really tired," she said and got out of the car and walked up the stairs into the building.

As soon as she walked in to her room she closed the door and fell on the bed and started crying. She cried for her love, the love she knew that she could never attain. She was startled at the knock on the door. She looked at the time on her mobile and it was past midnight.

"Who is it at this time?" Manvi thought and went to the door.

She opened the door to find Virat, standing outside. She was so shocked to see him there she forgot about everything else that had happened the last few hours.

"Oh my God, Virat, what are you doing here, I could get in so much trouble if someone sees you." Manvi said.

"Give me five minutes; I just want to talk to you. I won't leave until I talk to you." Virat said begging with his eyes for Manvi to agree.

"Fine, just five minutes then you have to get out of here, if someone sees you here that will the end of me." Manvi said pulling Virat inside the room and closing the door behind them.

"Manvi I'm really sorry for the way I've been acting." Virat started.

"Look Virat, you don't need to be sorry about anything, it's my fault, I'm the one who thought that you will love me too. You always made it clear that you only wanted to be my friend." Manvi said. "I'm sorry I shouted at you, just give me some time."

"Manvi," Virat said taking a foot closer to her. "Please listen to me. I know I always said that I only wanted to be friends and nothing more with anyone, but that was before you came along and changed the way I feel. I love spending time with you Manvi, I care about you so much, I can't think of my world without you. The only reason I didn't want to get close to you is because I was afraid I'll hurt you, but staying away only hurt you more."

"But why are you scared, I'm not that fragile that you have to be scared that you'll break me." Manvi said.

"When you said you can't even be my friend I realised how much I needed in you in my life. You've become a part of it, and can't think of a life without you. I love you Manvi and I hope that you'll give me another chance because I'm going to make sure that I love you and cherish you the way that you deserve." Virat said.

"Virat," Manvi whispered, as she couldn't believe what she had just heard, he came closer and took her face in his hands.

"Manvi, I promise that I will never hurt you, because I can never see tears coming from your eyes." Virat said and kissed her forehead.

Manvi looked up at him, and he brought his face closer to hers, their lips were just inches apart.

"Can I kiss you?" He asked.

"I might be bad at it." She said.

He smiled at her sweet innocence and pressed his lips on hers, he ran his hands through hair and she put her hands around his face. His hands went down her back and his fingers started stroking his back. He didn't want to stop but he knew that he had to control himself and take things slow. He pulled away and she looked up at him.

"Did I do something wrong?" Manvi asked.

"No Manvi, I just don't want to do anything wrong." He said. "I should go; we'll talk in the morning."

He looked at her and smiled, "I love you Manvi, I'm sorry I took so long to realise it."

He was about to open the door when he heard voices outside the door.

"Wait I'll see who's there," Manvi said and opened the door slightly to quickly peak outside.

There were about three girls down the corridor standing near the balcony.

"Oh shit, you can't leave now, if they see you, I'll surely be out of here. You'll have to stay here till they go." Manvi said.

"I don't want to get you in trouble."Virat said.

"I'll be in trouble if you leave,"Manvi said anxiously. "We can talk some more." And she sat on the bed signalling him to join her.

"I hope this is not weird for you." Virat said.

"Virat, I trust you and I know that you will never do anything that will make me feel uncomfortable."Manvi said and they both leaned back onto the wall seated on the bed.

"Virat, can I ask you a question?"Manvi asked. He nodded his head silently.

"Why were you scared to admit you're in love?"

"Because of my dad," he said and Manvi looked at him in a confused manner.

"When you met me everything at home was fine, but after we moved to Delhi dad started to change, he worked till late at night and hardly had any time for me and mom. Later on my mom found out that he was having an affair." Virat said sadly.

"Oh my God, Virat I'm so sorry,"Manvi said touching Virat's face.

"I vowed to myself that I never wanted to turn out like my father, he hurt mom so badly, he used to be so good to us, so I thought that one day even I will turn out like him." Virat said.

"No Virat, just because our parents make mistakes doesn't mean that we will do the same. We just have to learn from their mistakes and live a better life." Manvi said.

"I understand that now," Virat said.

She understood now why he had being so reluctant to give into her love, they talked for hours, she told him of her obsession of stalking his profile, and he laughed at her for innocence. Without even them realising they had fallen asleep in each others arms. Luckily Virat's phone started ringing and both of them startled and got up.

"Oh shit it's almost five in the morning, I should get out of here before people start getting up." Virat said.

"Who was that Virat," Manvi asked.

"It was just Karan, he's probably wondering where I am." Virat said.

"How are you going to get past the door downstairs,"Manvi asked.

"I didn't come through the door,"Virat said and winked, "I climbed the tree near the balcony and came through there."

He looked at her mouth turning into a big "O". He just smiled gave her a peck on the cheek and quickly opened the door, looked around and seeing the coast clear he said, "get some sleep, I'll call you later," and he was gone.

She saw him get on the balcony and disappear, she smiled to herself and closed the door and went back to bed.
