Chapter 18A:
Uday was just making his way towards Manyata's room when he bumped into something…rather, someone. Instinctively, his arms went out to steady them both only to find them securely holding the very princess that had been seeping into his every thought for the past few weeks. Uday stared on, amused, as even after several seconds Manyata had her eyes shut tightly and was holding onto him like her dear life depended on it. Nautanki, Uday smiled and decided to tease her. "Princess, hume dosti kya karli, aap toh seedhi godh mein hi tapak padhi," he purred, thoroughly satisfied with the gasp that escaped Manyata's lips as her eyes snapped open. "Oh please, in your dreams," Manyata scoffed as she pushed her way out of his arms and began walking away. "Relax princess, hum mazaak kar rahe the," Uday said as he followed her.
"Waise, aap itni jaldi kaise waapis aa gaye? Aap toh aaj aanewale the na," Manyata asked in an attempt at friendship. Ab dosti ki hai, toh kahni se toh shuruat karni padegi…
"Bus, itna kuch kaam nahin tha. Jaldi khatum ho gayi toh jaldi waapis aa gaya," Uday lied. In fact, he had had an immense amount of work which he had completed in record speed once he had gotten Unnati's call. He didn't know why but he just had this irrational urge to rush back and talk to Manyata, see how she was doing. And good thing he had because the thought of her still being in that state from last night torn at him. But God help him if he would ever admit that to her; he had barely admitted it to himself.
"Hmm", Manyata replied glumly. Uday looked over at her response to find her lost in worry. He was sure she was still stressed about everything that had happened yesterday. He had to do something to get her out of this mood. The sight of a subdued Manyata was unacceptable; he wanted his Manyata back, the one that would fight with him, call him names, and whose cheeks were constantly red due to her irritation. Woah. "His"? Relax Uday, she's your fianc so technically she is yours. No other reason, he tried to reason.
"Anyway, we don't really have much more to do before the press conference so why not enjoy today. It's been ages since we've dueled...toh aaj ho jaye?" Uday knew Manyata loved this growing up. Hopefully, this would cheer her up and also serve as a way for her to vent her frustrion.
"Nahin, aaj humaara mann nahin. Hume Jai se baat karni hai, woh humse bohaut naraz hai."
"Woh sab tum humpe chod do. Tum sirf haarne ke liye tayar hojao. Breakfast ke baad humaara muqaabla hoga princess," smirked Uday as he watched Manyata suddenly turn to him with attitude.
"Kya! Haar? Aur hum? Kabhi nahin! Badde Yuvraaj bann ke firte hai na aap? Shayad issiliye sab aapko jeetne dete honge. Magar hum nahin! App haarjaenge," Manyata stated with a hint of the previous fire in her eyes.
"Hayee. Haar toh hum bohaut pehele hi chukke the princess," Uday purred as he dragged his thumb from her jaw to her lips.
"Chee! Batameez," Manyata exclaimed as she pushed his hand away and furiously shoved past him.
"Arre! Sunno toh, princess," Uday called after her laughing as she stormed off. God, she's so beautiful when she's mad, thought Uday as he smirked inwardly. Khair, kam se kam udaas to nahin hai. I rather have her be annoyed at me than glum, thought Uday as he watched her go. He quietly turned around and made his way down for breakfast, without even realizing he had a genuine smile on his face for the first time in ten years…

I know it's shorter than usual but I've been having major writer's block. Have been trying to figure out a good way to have the Uday-Manyata relationship progress for the upcoming twist I have in mind. Finally, I thought of something. Will try to write part B of this chapter soon, maybe later tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy!
Also, I want to thank everyone that has liked and commented. It really helps to motivate me. I just request that you please take a minute and give me a little insight into what you think about the story and your thoughts on the updates and characters instead of just saying "great job" or "update soon". If I know how you guys are interpreting my work, I can better write the chapters. I don't expect you to say something insightful for every chapter but if you ever read something and feel happy, sad, confused, angry, anything...then please take a minute and post. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks,
Simi
