STORY SO FAR

Thread 1 :

Khushi had an accident when Arnav left her alone on the way to Shanthivan from Laxmi Nagar. A business man by the name Siddharth Raina helped her and took her to Mumbai where he learnt that she had lost her memory.

A year later, Arnav finds her during a meeting and makes her accept a job as the Art Director for the show he and Siddharth conduct. He doesn't believe that she has lost her memory. His family meet her but doesnot disclose the truth that she is Arnav's wife.

Shyam vows to get her back and it infuriates Arnav which leads him to hurt her with his words. Circumstances force Arnav to give her the benefit of doubt and he asks his detective friend Neel to find about her relationship with Shyam.

Siddharth takes care of her like a daughter and they share a great bond.

One day, Anjali shows her wedding album to Khushi and she is shocked to know that Anjali's husband is trying to marry her. Shyam hurts her when she tries to tell Arnav the truth.

Anjali and Arnav take her to the hospital where the doctor is adamant that he would speak about her condition to Siddharth. Siddharth finds out that Arnav is Khushi's husband and tells him about her accident and her memory loss. He also comes to know that she has fallen in love with him again.

Arnav is guilty and he tells her the truth about their relationship. When she decides to return to Mumbai with Siddharth, Arnav apologizes for his mistakes and breaks down. Even though she loves him, she is not ready to forgive him.

Both are miserable in their own places. Siddharth advises her to rethink her decision. During the last day of the fashion week, Arnav and Khushi confess their love for each other and reconcile. Khushi has also found out who Siddharth's love is. The person behind the reason for his single status.

Shyam tries to create a misunderstanding between the family but Khushi stands by Arnav. Arnav decides to give her a wedding she deserves. He proposes to her on her birthday and marries her under the stars even though a grand wedding is on the cards.

A sudden IT raid makes Arnav stay in office on her birthday and he calls her to join him in the office. The driver is admant that he brought her to the office. There is a letter written by Khushi in the back seat which tells that she is leaving him. Arnav doesnot trust the letter. Arnav and Siddharth find something fishy with the whole situation.

Khushi has been kidnapped by two men with the help of the driver.

Thread 2 :

Arnav and Siddharth guess that Shyam is behind the kidnapping. A mysterious man talks to Shyam about revenge on Arnav Malik. They find the location and rescue Khushi. A young man named Arjun Singh donates blood for Khushi.

When Shyam comes to the hospital, Anjali tells him that he is not important in her life.

Most of the Raizada family decide and send Khushi to Siddharth's house until marriage. Arnav and Khushi meet in office and have a comfortable sleep in the couch. Arnav agrees to an affair with Khushi Raina with the knowledge of his wife, Mrs. Raizada.

Arnav accidentally finds out that Anjali is Siddharth's love. He and Khushi decide to unite the two. He acts as if he is on a phone call with a girlfriend [who is actually Khushi Raina]. Anjali thinks that her brother has an affair. Anjali and Siddharth reach the same restaurant to spy on Arnav. Unfortunately for them, Arnav and Khushi have plaaned and locked them in a room.

Anjali opens up and talks about Shyam's betrayal with Siddharth. He promises her that she will definitely have a taste of love.

Siddharth's client, Pooja Sharma, arranges a party. Khushi plans to make Anjali jealous due to the other girls in the party.

Arnav's ex-girlfriend, Tina, arrives and Khushi drinks tequila. Without creating a scene, she leaves the party venue.

THE HEART KNOWS

CHAPTER 47 (A)

Khushi felt her head throbbing in pain. She pressed her palms against her temples but the pain didn't go away. She leant on a nearby tree and closed her eyes. It hurt as if a hundred people played drums inside her head.

She took a few deep breaths and tried to control it. She saw a taxi waiting in the next street and went to the driver.

"Kahaan jaana hai, maam?" the driver asked her. [Where do you want to go, maam?]

She gave him an address and got in the taxi.

Siddharth got bored with the attention he received and he gently brushed them aside. He found Jia, Anjali and Aman standing near the bar. Khushi was nowhere to be found. He looked around and noticed that Arnav was also missing.

He thought that the two were having some private chats.

"Enjoyed the party, Siddharth?" Jia asked with a sly smile.

"Great party, don't you think?"

"Of course. Of course."

"Where is Khushi?"

Anjali's feelings turned to anger and she said, "Both the DJ and SJ are just the same. You guys don't leave a chance to go behind the girls or let them close to you."

Saying that, Anjali walked away from the place.

"What happened?" Siddharth asked Jia and Aman.

"Your jealousy inducing act struck all the right cords, boss," Jia said with a grin.

"Jealousy inducing act?" he repeated in confusion.

"Come on, Siddharth," Aman said. "Don't tell me that all that fake-fun-with-the-girls was real. We wouldn't believe it, would we, Jia?"

Jia shook her head. "No way, Aman."

Letting go off his initial shock, Siddharth asked, "So, how many of you know that I was faking it?"

"Me, Aman and Khushi," Jia replied.

"Awesome," he muttered under her breath.

He remembered what Anjali told him and asked, "What was Anjali talking about both DJ and SJ being the same?"

"Arnav did something foolish, too," Aman explained.

"What did he do?"

"He was close to his ex and Khushi saw that."

Siddharth was shocked. "What?"

"After seeing them together, she went to talk to them. I don't know what she said. She spoke with them and left."

"Chali gayi? Kahaan chali gayi?" [Left? Where did she go?]

"Don't worry, Siddharth. Arnav went after her."

"Arnav ko main..."

Jia interrupted him and said, "Pehle Anjali ko dekho. Woh bhi naaraz hai." [See to Anjali first. She is also angry.]

Arnav searched for her. When he didn't find her, he exited the party venue and looked around for her. He called her name but did not get any reply.

He dialled her number and waited for her to reply.

The ring went on and she did not reply.

"It is not what you think, Khushi," he whispered into the night air wishing it to bring his life back.

Someone touched his shoulder and he turned to see who it was. It was Anjali.

"Khushi kahaan hai?" she asked him. [Where is Khushi?]

"Patha nahi, di. [Don't know, di.] She is not attending my calls."

"Kaise attend karegi?" [How will she attend?]

"Di?"

"What was the need to be that close with your ex?"

"It isn't what you think."

"So, you are trying to tell me that it is okay if Khushi puts her hand around some random guy in a party in front of you?"

His eyes widened in shock and anger just by the thought of someone else near his Khushi.

"Answer me, Arnav. Tum uss waqt kya karoge?" [What will you do at that time?]

He didn't reply.

"Achcha nahi lagega na tume? [You won't feel good, right?] Then how can you expect her to be okay after seeing you like that?"

He tried Khushi's number again. The same thing happened. She didn't attend the call.

His sister was right.

He had shouted at her for just talking about Vijay and he expected her to be calm after seeing him with one of his ex girlfriends.

Siddharth joined them and asked, "Arnav, Khushi kahaan hai?" [Arnav, where is Khushi?]

He couldn't reply.

"Tumara DJ ko jawaab patha nahi," Anjali told him. [Your DJ does not know the answer.]

"Matlab?" [Means?]

"Khushi is hurt and she isn't attending Arnav's calls."

Without waiting for further confrontation, Arnav went to his car and drove to Siddharth's house.

Siddharth tried calling Khushi. She attended his call.

"Sweetheart, kahaan ho tum? [Sweetheart, where are you?] Arnav is upset. Where did you go without telling him?"

She didn't reply.

"Kuch tho baat karo na, sweetheart. Are you fine? Mujhe lagtha hai kuch theek nahi hai." [Tell me something, sweetheart. Are you fine? I feel that something is not right.]

"Siddhu..."

"Batao tum kahaan ho. Main tume lene aonga." [Tell me where you are. I'll come to pick you.]

"I'll come by myself, Siddhu."

"Jaldi aa jao." [Come soon.]

"I'll come after some time. I need some time alone."

"I will be waiting for you."

As soon as he disconnected the call, Anjali asked, "Where is she?"

"She isn't telling me. She just said that she needs some time alone."

"Why do you men always need so many people around you?" Anjali asked. "Isn't one person enough?"

Siddharth knew that Anjali was angry. He understood that it wasn't the right time to talk about her jealousy and his feelings.

"Ghar jaa raha hoon. [I am going home.] Do you want to come?"

She nodded.

"I'll tell Jia and Aman that we are leaving."

The driver dropped her in the address Khushi gave him and he left.

Siddharth called her and she spoke with him.

It was drizzling by the time she went inside the house. Her head still throbbed and she didn't know how to stop it. She sat on the floor and hugged her knees. She had felt an uncomfortable feeling from the second she saw Arnav with Tina. She wondered whether her heardache was due to the drinks she had. She then realized that her head had started to pound even before she drank the first tequila shot. At the same time, her mind wasn't working properly due to the drinks she had. All of a sudden, a memory about her parents came back to her.

"You were jealous, weren't you?" her father asked her mother.

Her mother turned her head away and looked at the scenary through the car's window.

"Come on, Radhika," her father said. "You can't hide it from me."

An eight year old Khushi, who was in the back seat, asked, "What is ma hiding, papa?"

"Ma ne mujhe ek ladki ke saath baat karte hue dekha. Uss ki wajaa se woh mujhse gussa hai." [Ma saw me talking with another girl. That is the reason she is angry with me.]

"Ma, aap iss choti si reason ke liye gussa ho?" Khushi asked her. [Ma, are you angry for this small reason?]

"Yeh choti reason nahi hai, baby," her father told her. [This is not a small reason, baby.]

"Yeh choti reason nahi hai?" [This is not a small reason?]

He shook her head. "In the future, when you find someone you love with another person, you will get angry and sad."

"Aur ma ne aap se bahut pyaar karti hai, hai na papa?" [And ma loves you a lot, right papa?]

"Haan, baby. Lekin ma ne ek baar bhi mujhse nahi kaha ki woh mujhse pyaar karti hai." [Yes, baby. But she hasn't told me that even once.]

"Words ki kya zaroorat hai, papa? Ma and I love you a lot." [Why are words important, papa? Ma and I love you a lot.]

She put her arm around her father's neck and kissed his cheek.

He removed his left hand from the steering wheel and held Khushi's hand. "I love you, too, baby. Waise tumari ma mujhe pappi, jappi nahi dengi kya?" [Won't you mother give me a hug or a kiss?]

Radhika tried hard controlling her smile but she couldn't.

He noticed it and said, "Hasi tho phasi."

"Haan. Haan. I fell in your traps almost nine years ago, Shekar."

A few seconds later, she kissed her husband's cheek and said, "I love you, Shekar."

Shekar was astonished that his wife had kissed and told him that she loved him. Before he could reply, a truck driving on the wrong side of the road crashed on their car.

Khushi jerked back from the memory.

The rain poured heavily and the wind was pretty cold. She was shivering and tried to cover herself as much as possible with her saree. Somehow the chillness took a back seat in her priorities list.

Payal had told her about their parents and buaji. She had also told her that she was adopted. Did that mean the two people in her small memory flash were her real parents? She didn't remember anything and the agony only increased the pounding in her head.

Tears rolled down her cheeks without her permission. It was due to the helplessness she felt.

She wanted Arnav or Siddharth with her. Her wish was granted and her phone rang again. It was Arnav. She needed him and she picked the call.

"Jaan, I am really very sorry. Please. Please mujhe batao tum kahaan ho?" he pleaded.

She couldn't say anything other than his name.

"Arnav..."

"Jaan, kyun ro rahi ho?" he asked in panic. "I made you cry again, didn't I?" [Jaan, why are you crying?]

"Mujhe... Mujhe kuch yaad aaya," she said in between sobs. [I... I remember.]

A few seconds of silence later, he said, "Koi baat nahi, jaan. [It does not matter, jaan.] Just tell me where you are. I'll come to you."

"Arnav..."

"Khushi... Jaan, please ro math. Baby, I love you. Just tell me where you are. I'll be near you within few minutes."

The endearment 'baby' only made her cry more. He had called her like that before. At that time, she didn't feel anything. But after the little memory flash, it made her cry. It was how her father had called her.

Adding to her woes, her battery in her phone chose that exact moment to die. She sat in the little house and looked at the rain falling heavily just like her tears.

THE HEART KNOWS

CHAPTER 47 (B)

The first place Arnav went to was Siddharth's house. He searched the whole house for her. She wasn't there. He tried her number again and to his luck, she attended the call.

He was able to breathe normally only when he heard her voice. But the relief was short lived. She had told him that she had remembered. He was shocked and he didn't know how to react. He tried hard and controlled his nerves and asked her where she was. All of a sudden, the call had been disconnected. He had tried again. The mechanical voice had told him that the phone was switched off.

He panicked thinking that she didn't want to talk to him. Then he remembered her telling him that she would come running to him if she ever regained her memory. He trusted her and thought whether her phone had some problem. His mind was reeling with a lot of thoughts when Siddharth and Anjali entered the house.

The cook told them that Arnav was there. They found Arnav deep in thought in Khushi's room.

Siddharth shook his shoulders.

"Arnav...!"

His eyes focused on Siddharth and his sister. Without any hesitation, he hugged Siddharth.

"Arnav, I spoke with Khushi. She told me that she will be back within some time."

He stepped away from the hug and asked, "When did you speak with her?"

"Ten minutes back."

Arnav looked at the phone in his hand. "She spoke with me a few seconds back."

The other two waited for him to continue.

"She told me that she remembered something. Before she could tell me where she was, the call got disconnected. I tried again but her phone is switched off."

Siddharth rubbed his forehead and said, "We have to search for her. Where do you think she will be?"

"Our house," Anjali offered.

"I don't think so. Nani or NK would have called us the second they see Khushi upset."

"How about buaji's house?"

"She knows that they are in Lucknow," Arnav replied.

"Where else would she go?" Anjali thought aloud. "If she was upset, she would come to her Siddharth daddy."

That was when it struck Arnav. She would have gone to the place where she would be able to feel his mother. Their favourit place. The garden.

"I know where she will be," Arnav told them and rushed past them.

He ran to his car and drove to the garden.

He reached the garden within fifteen minutes. Every second of his travel passed as one thing went through his mind. His Khushi was upset and he was the reason again. The rain made his job even more difficult.

Finally, he reached the garden.

The little yellow bulb was on in the little house. He ignored the rain and ran to the house. He found Khushi in one corner of the house. He fell on his knees in front of her and wrapped his arms around her.

"Arnav..."

She hugged him back and hid her face in his chest.

"I wanted to come back to you," she told him. "But I was frightened of the dark and it is raining. I..."

He rubbed her back and said, "Ssshhh... Jaan, don't cry. I know you wouldn't walk away from me."

"I am sorry."

He held her close until her tears slowed down and eventually stopped. Her skin felt cold against his touch. He removed his coat and wrapped it around her. He sat beside her and rubbed her hands to bring back the warmth she had lost. She leant her head on his shoulder.

"I remembered about my parents, Arnav," she told him slowly.

He closed his eyes and swallowed hard.

"I remembered about the accident to which I lost them."

He looked at her in confusion. A few seconds later, he realized that she was talking about her real parents. Her gaze was fixed on a spot in from of her and he remained silent so that she could tell him everything.

"I remember bauji, amma and buaji only because jiji told me about them and I didn't know about my real parents at all. Something made me remember about them."

She pressed her fingers against her templed and told him what she had remembered. He listened to what she said and also noticed her actions.

"Is your head aching?"

"When I saw you with her, it started. In the beginning, I thought it was due to the drinks I had. Then I realized that it was there even before I was drunk."

He pulled her close to him and said, "My stupid little conversation with Tina triggered that memory. I am sorry, jaan. It wasn't what you were thinking. There is nothing..."

She placed her finger on his lips and said, "You don't have to explain."

The effect of alcohol was evident in her voice and in her droopy eyelids. She got up and ran to the sink in the kitchen. He followed her and held her while she threw up everything she drank. He stood beside her and helped her wash her face.

He felt guilty as he was the reason for her condition.

When she was done, he said, "Let's go home."

"No. Let's stay here today. Call Siddhu and tell him that we will not come home today."

"Nani will be angry."

She kissed his cheek and said, "Please, jaan. Sirf aaj ka din." [Please, jaan. Only for today.]

It was the first time she called him 'jaan'. It should have made him happy. But it didn't. He would have been happy if she was in her senses.

"You shouldn't sleep in an empty stomach. You have to eat."

She shook her head. "I don't want to eat."

"Khushi, listen to me. You have to..."

"I don't want to eat. I want to sleep." She caught his tie and pulled him closer and said, "By placing my ear over your chest. I will forget everything and sleep peacefully. Please, baby. Kal se tum jo bhi kahoge, mein woh sab kuch maanungi. [From tomorrow, I'll listen to everything you say.]" She twirled the tie in her forefinger and said, "Please, jaan. Please. Please."

When she asked him like that, he didn't have the heart to refuse.

"Okay. Let's stay here."

She kissed him again and said, "You are the best pati in the world." Suddenly she remembered something and said, "You go and have your dinner. It is not good for your health if you skip food. You go, eat and come back soon."

Tears pooled in his eyes. Even in that state, she was worried about his health.

"No. I'll stay with you."

"But you have to eat."

"I'll eat later," he lied. "Shall we go and sleep?"

"Carry me," she said and raised her hands like a kid.

He put his arms under her and lifted her. She put one arm around his neck and clutched his shirt's collar with the other.

When he was about to lay her on the bed, he noticed that she was already asleep. Her hand was still on his collar. He slowly pried her fingers away and went to a nearby cupboard to grab a blanket. She covered her with the blanket and watched her sleep.

He removed his tie and his cuff buttons. He remembered that he had to tell Siddharth.

"Siddharth, I am with Khushi."

"How is she? Is she fine?"

"She is fine. She is drunk and has fallen asleep. I'll bring her home tomorrow."

"What about your dinner and medicines?"

"I'll manage, Siddharth."

His voice did not have any emotion in it and Siddharth noticed it.

Before he disconnected the call, Siddharth said, "Don't beat yourself up, Arnav. Khushi will be upset if you do that. Take care and sleep well. Sort out everything tomorrow."

"Bye, Siddharth."

Arnav got into the bed with Khushi. She pushed the blanket away and moved closer to him. When she placed her head on his chest and clutched his collar, he pulled the blanket over the both of them.

"I am sorry, Khushi. You are in this state because of me. This will never happen again." He kissed her forehead and said, "Whatever the reason is, the same situation will not happen again."
