Flashback

A ten year old Virat stood in the doorway of his room listening to his parents fight. They were screaming at each other, calling each other names, breaking utensils and picture frames. He ran to his room and shut the door but he could still hear them. He covered his ears in an attempt to drown the noise; he could still hear each word.

This happened almost every night. They were always looking for a reason to fight, to abuse one another. In their attempt to make other's life hell, their only child Virat was long forgotten.

Since childhood Virat always wondered why his parents got married if they hated each other so much. Over five years of quarrels and another year of divorce battle, his parents finally separated. He was sent to a boarding school because neither his dad nor his mom wanted to take his responsibility; both of them wanted to enjoy their new found 'freedom.' Hence he was sent away.

He spent most of his days in his school. Even during holidays- Christmas or Thanksgiving or Diwali or Holi he didn't go home instead he went to his friend's house. He didn't have a house to go to. Richest kid in school but when it came to family, he was the poorest. That was Virat Singh Vadhera's childhood; an orphan with parents.

His dad remarried and got divorced again and his mom had several flings. Virat hated going to either of their places and the few times that he went, he always encountered something that would leave him hurt for days. As he got older he stopped visiting both of his parents and they too got busy with their lives. The only things that he received without any delay were checks from both of them. Perhaps they felt guilty for abandoning him so to account for their absence in his life they spent extravagantly on him, sending him loads of money and expensive presents.

His dad, a business tycoon and his mom, one of the best lawyers in India and Virat was their only child. He had everything that money could buy but he craved for affection. He lived in a shell and no one ever knew the real Virat. His friends had a different picture of him in their head. According to them, Virat was the funny, flirty, cool, extrovert guy but no one knew the real him. They didn't know that he didn't take anything seriously in life because that was the only way for him to stay sane. They didn't know that he had insomnia and that he took sleeping pills to fall asleep. They called him a stud because he moved on from girl to girl but they didn't know that he was scared of relationships; he didn't want to witness another broken home.

Everything changed when he met her. He didn't have to pretend to be happy anymore; he was genuinely happy. He didn't have to hide his true feelings inside humor, there was no point to it; she saw through it all. The faade he put up for the world didn't work with her. She saw through him, he didn't know how but she did.

She believed in relationship, commitment and he didn't, small things made her happy whereas he had never been truly happy. Yet they fell for each other. Their story was right out of a Hollywood or a Bollywood movie- guy hurt and broken, girl fun loving and happy, they meet and fall in love. That is exactly what happened with them. They didn't fall for each other right away though. It started with hatred then friendship then finally love.

Virat who never believed in relationship started believing in it. She lightened up his world and he wanted nothing more than her. It took him lot of courage to ask her to move in with him; he'd seen too many failed relationships in his life but he wanted to be with her. After she moved in with him he realized it was probably the best decision of his life. Like an angel she took all of his pain away.

With Manvi next to him, he did not need sleeping pills to fall asleep. Soon she became the reason behind his existence and he hers.
