PART 1
I don't believe in marriage. His words kept ringing in her ears as she walked aimlessly on the street. After two and a half years of live-in relationship he straight out refused to marry her. He walked away claiming he didn't believe in love or marriage. Then what was he doing with her? Was she a mere time pass or a tissue paper- use and throw? She loved him, unconditionally, the only reason why she let him have his way- stay together before getting married.
She was a girl with principles, values but she gave it all up for a guy. How naive and trusting was she! Not for a second did she doubt his intentions and yet here she was today, deceived.
Flashback
She got down on her knees and spread her arms wide.
"Virat I love you, always have and always will. Marry me?"
She looked at him hopefully.
"HAHAHA okay you got me. Good joke now get up."
Disheartened she got up and dusted off her jeans. "God you are such a chep! Why can't you be serious for a while?"
"Manvi you know very well that I don't like jokes like these then why do you do it?" He questioned.
She stared at him with wide eyes.
"Joke? What makes you think I am joking? We have been living together for two years now. It is high time we got married."
"Married? What nonsense are you talking about? You knew from the start that I don't believe in marriage. So please don't bring it up again."
She moved closer to him to clear her doubts, "Are you saying that you will never get married to me?"
"I will never get married to anybody. Period." He sternly replied.
"Then what are we doing? Where is our relationship headed?" She gasped at the realization.
He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer, "Baby what's wrong? You always knew I don't ever want to get married and you didn't too. So what changed?"
She pushed him and turned her back towards him, "I didn't want to get married a year ago but I do now. I knew you were against marriage and I never gave it much thought- it is a very guy thing to say that you don't believe in marriage. Somewhere deep down I always hoped you'd love me enough to want to be with me for the rest of your life."
Tears streamed down her eyes.
He hugged her from behind and kissed her neck, scared of where this was headed to.
He turned her around and wiped her tears, "Ofcourse I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. All I am saying is that I don't want to get married. We are together now aren't we? Can't it all just stay the same?"
"Virat this is not how it works. We need to give our relationship a name, something to show the world that we belong to each other." She clutched his shirt in an attempt to steady herself.
He held her tightly, "Why do you care about society? WE BELONG TO EACH OTHER. I don't care what others think or say."
She released herself from his embrace, "But I do, my family does. Beeji called today, she has given me a deadline. She doesn't want me to stay here any longer. After I receive my degree next week she wants me to move back to Hrishikesh."
"Then why don't you tell her you will get a job here? Convince her that you want to stay here." He couldn't understand what was keeping her from doing that.
"Why should I do that? What is the point in doing that? I will get to stay with you for a year or two more but you will never marry me. Tomorrow if Beeji or anybody else finds out that I have been living with a stranger that too a guy what will they think of me?" She truthfully answered.
"I'm not a stranger." He answered feeling extremely hurt from her behavior.
"Really what are you then? My Husband? A Relative? How will I justify myself in front of my family? Tomorrow if somebody asks me who are you to me, what will I tell them?"
"How can you be so worried about the god damn world but not us?" He banged the table in frustration.
"You will never understand Virat. I'm a woman, society looks at me differently. No matter how modern we get people don't think a second before defaming a woman. Nobody will blame you but they will certainly raise questions on my character." She couldn't believe she didn't think about all this before. Love does make you blind. Today she got her eye sight back only to leave her wishing she could be blind again.
He cupped her cheeks, "I will answer them. I won't let anyone question you. I will protect you, I promise."
She moved his hands away from her face, "And why would you do that? Who are you? What is your relation with me? You are just my boyfriend Virat."
The words that left her mouth shocked both of them. While he tried to grasp the gravity of the situation, she realized the biggest mistake of her life- following her heart.
"Good bye Virat. I hope you have a good life."
Before he could even compose himself to stop her she left.
Flashback ends
Lonely, disheartened, broken she walked away, without any destiny or faith. The one person she willingly gave her everything to did not even look her way or attempt to stop her from leaving.
They say life is unfair, elders warn you not to trust anyone blindly, but why don't they tell you to never fall in love. Love which is supposed to alleviate pain, make you a better and a happier person gave her nothing but heart ache. How easily he said 'I will never get married.'
How cliche was this, a guy and a girl fall in love, girl gives everything to the guy and in the end the guy leaves her. Isn't this a common story? Shouldn't every girl in the planet be wary by now? Like every other girl she too believed that she was special for him and he would get married to her someday. Don't give everything to a guy before he puts a ring on your finger. She was the biggest preacher of this, yet here she was today on the verge of losing that last bit of self-respect.

Okay before you guys drive a stake through my heart (vampire diaries reference) let me explain myself. My exams got over then I.. um spent the weekend partying with friends *guilty*. I would have updated yesterday but I ummm wasn't well- alcohol poisoning the night before so woke up with a bad hangover. Hey don't judge me. I don't even remember the last time I partied so I got carried away and took a little too many shots *scratches head*.
