Part 7

When they reached home after an exhausting day a pleasant surprise

awaited Khushi. The entire kitchen was stocked up with atleast a month's

ration, both their rooms had AC and their beds were surrounded by

mosquito nets. Bathrooms had showerheads fixed up, there was a

generator put so there won't be electricity problem in the future and internet

connection was provided.

"You did this?"

"Well, this place looked something straight out of Harappan civilization

so I decided to remodel it to resemble something of 21^st century." He

replied.

"You know almost 90% of India lives in such old-fashioned houses.

Everyone doesn't have these facilities and they manage pretty well without

it. Spoilt brat!"

"What to do! Habits don't change within days! And plus 90% of India

can't afford it, we can so why live uncomfortably!"

"There is no "we" over here. You may be able to afford it not me. You

can't live without all these, fine, why make the changes in my room?"

"Well I didn't want to give you an excuse to come in my room every now

and then. I did this for myself not for you. I you don't like it don't use it.

Who's forcing you?" he smirked.

"You…..arrgghh…. you will never change."

His temper flared. How dare she accuse him of not changing. Can't she

see that he left his entire world behind just for her? He could have lived in

some posh hotel but no he came here, to live with her, for her, in this small

old-fashioned house. How can she say he has not changed? He is no more

the ruthless person he was. If said one year back that he would be living a

life like this just for a middle-class girl he would have admitted that

person into mental asylum. But here he is doing the exact same thing. And

that middle-class girl has somehow become his world. He cannot live

without her, not now not ever. Call him selfish, yes he admits it cuz without

her he cannot fathom his life. It will turn lifeless, he won't go back to that

life. Before he could say anything else she walked off. She saw his

expressions change, she knew whats going to come next, so to avoid it she

escaped to the kitchen!

Khushi had walked off to prepare their dinner. They had skipped lunch

and she was worried about Arnav's health. No matter what she cannot

seem to stop herself from thinking about him, worrying for him! And now

this argument, that's why she didn't want to stay with him in the first

place, she was fed up of their everyday fights. Arnav had believed the

worst of her and when finally he had gotten proof that she had never

committed any crime he is back to woo her. Yes she is no fool, she can

understand what he is doing, why he is doing it. It's his guilt which is

making him do all this. Or else why would Arnav Singh Raizada run

around behind a middle-class girl! He is appeasing his self-consciousness

by doing all this! He has to understand that they cannot be together,

cannot base a relationship on guilt. She dare not let herself assume that he

loves her, no she had made that mistake once and paid a hefty price for it!

Love, wonder if ASR even knows the meaning of love! After what

happened with his sister surely now he must not be believing in love

anymore (not that he did earlier). She knew something had happened in

his past to change him this drastically but unless he doesn't open up to her

she won't be able to understand. She is not a mind-reader and their

relation hasn't reached those levels yet!

With all these thoughts swirling in her mind she brought out their dinner.

"I thought we were supposed to cook for ourselves, then why this?"

"I don't' want to kill you that's why. If I don't cook Iam sure you

would not even bother with food and starve yourself to death. And you

need to eat to have your medicines. I don't want a murder charge on me."

She finished in a single breath.

He smiled from within. She cared, she still cared!

"But you are going to wash the utensils. You don't get to go scott-free."

"Done"

Thankfully they had a peaceful dinner, both lost in their thoughts. After

Arnav cleaned the utensils with Khushi supervising him, they retired to

their rooms.

Since Arnav had refused to let himself get locked up in his room and went

to the extent of hiding his key away, Khushi locked up the house as well

as her room keeping the keys with her. This way even if Arnav "sleep-

walked" he wouldn't wander off. Though she had her doubts about that

sleep-walking excuse she just had to be sure. But what if he is really

missing his Di that's why maybe……….. no no Khushi don't let yourself

get distracted. This is Arnav Singh Raizada, he is not the one to show

emotions, he must have been making it all up and if he is really missing

her then maybe he'll go back to her leaving her in peace!

At night again Arnav tried sneaking in but he found her door locked. Drat!

He should have known when she relented so easily! Khushi Kumari

Gupta never gives up! That's why she left his door unlocked! If only he

didn't miss his alarm then he wouldn't have been in this situation. Never

mind he'll find some other way tomorrow!

The next day Khushi woke up early morning, made their breakfast, had

hers and hurried out to accomplish what she had in mind. She was sure

Arnav will again follow her around like Lakshmiji, she can't allow that

to happen. She punctured all the tires of his car and emptied out the petrol

tank. She hid his car keys and wallet so he wouldn't be able to hire a cab

or something. Lets see how you follow me Mr.Raizada, chuckling to

herself she left for her job.

When Arnav woke up he realized it was quite late.

"9….shit Khushi's job starts at 8." He jumped from his bed searching

for Khushi. As he suspected she had left. He clearly remembered keeping

an alarm for 7. How the hell did he miss it? Last time he was with

Khushi and had slept very late waiting for her to fall asleep that's why

he had missed the alarm, but this time nothing like that happened. He

freshened up, had his breakfast and thought that he'll drive over to

Khushi's workplace. He couldn't find his keys, then his wallet went

missing and when he went outside his car had all the tires punctured. Now

he knew why his alarm didn't go off, he precious little wife must have been

the culprit behind all this mischief. He should have known she would do

something of this sort.

He searched the entire house for his wallet and finally found it in the

kitchen cabinet behind the sugar tin. Smart….she knew he wouldn't touch

sugar! He managed to hire a cab and went to Khushi's workplace.

The moment she entered the place she got this very homely kind of feeling

from it. It was not a huge office, it was small and cozy. Her employer

was an amazing guy. He ran the place with his wife. His wife had gotten

pregnant so she had taken a break from work. Khushi worked as a

receptionist cum assistant to them. Her job was to receive calls and take

down details of the person on the other end and fix appointments. It was

not entirely boring as she presumed. In fact it was kind of interesting

seeing different types of people, their dressing, their personality.

As Khushi was lost in thoughts she saw a guy dressed in casual jeans

and shirt entering the place. He was quite far so she couldn't make out his

face. As he came closer she got the shock of her life. Arnavji…shit how

did he reach here? She had made sure that he wouldn't be able to follow

her then…..damn..surely he is going to blast her. He must be fuming in

anger. Khushi…be brave so what if he is angry? He won't eat you up!

And you are not scared of anyone specially him! And how will he hang

out in this place, this is no park and boss won't let him just take a stroll.

He is strict when it comes to work ethics, nah Arnavji wouldn't be allowed

over here!

Arnav as soon as he entered the place saw Khushi staring at him with a

smirk. Huh…..surely something must be cooking in that weird brain of

hers!

Instead of meeting Khushi directly, he went in and met the boss

Mr.Khanna. First he thought of making up some excuse but later decided

to come out clean. This guy looked perceptive. And yes Mr. Khanna was

very perceptive. Arnav just told him that Khushi is his wife and he did

something terrible to her due to which she has now gone away from him

and he is here to woo her. He asked if he could get a job in this place close

to her. Mr.Khanna being a hard-core romantic immediately agreed. He

gave him the job of the manager who was on temporary leave for a few

weeks. Khushi should now report to him instead of Mr. Khanna!

And for the second time in the day Arnav had outsmarted Khushi and left

with her mouth hanging open!
