A Little More Than Friends
Introduction/Prologue/Excerpt
"What the hell are they doing?" asked Khushi peering over the menu at the couple staring at each other, seated on the table in a corner of the cafe.
Sighing, Arnav put down the book that he was reading reluctantly and said," Khushi will you please get your head out of that menu? What is so special about your elder sister sitting with my elder brother in a cafe, anyway?"
Khushi slapped the menu down on the table and asked him dramatically," What is so special? What is SO special? Isn't it special enough that our respective siblings are sitting together in a cafe? I say we find out what is going on between them!" Arnav and Khushi had spent half the time in that cafe and this was the first time Payal and Akash were there together.
Arnav mentally reminded himself that she was his best friend before answering resolutely," No! We are not going to interfere. It's their personal lives. Besides, I think it's pretty obvious that they are here on a small date of sorts. So just stop poking your nose and let them enjoy!"
Khushi pouted and said, "Please?"
Arnav said with firm determination," Akash has been trying to get a date with your sister for quite a long time. The whole college knows about them liking each other. Probably even the professors know about it. Now that he has finally picked up the courage and asked her out, I will not let you ruin it by going there and asking any weird questions. Do you get that Khushi Kumari Gupta?"
But Khushi didn't even flinch. She was used to the famous and unpredictable outbursts of her childhood best friend, Arnav Singh Raizada.
So, folks how is it?
Do tell me if I should continue...I'll be posting the remainder of the chapter here or ahead. Also, someone please suggest a name for this SS.
Character Sketch
Hey...I have never written a character sketch as this is my first SS. So I desperately need to know how it was. So please don't forget to drop in a comment on the update as well as the character sketch. Just let me know how the character sketch was so that if I ever write a story again, I'll know how I can write it better!
CHARACTER SKETCH
Raizada Family
1) Ashwin Singh Raizada: The owner of the Raizada Industries Ltd., a multinational company in partnership with the Gupta Industries Ltd. and one of the richest men in India. A shrewd businessman to the outside world but a protective and loving father and husband within the confines of his home. He is married to Asha and is a father to three'Anjali, Akash and Arnav. The Gupta family are one of the few chosen people who know him to be the soft man that he is on the inside and Shashi Gupta is one his closest friends, ally and business associate. He is open-minded and believes in giving his children independence.
2) Asha Singh Raizada: The graceful wife of Ashwin Singh Raizada and often helps her husband at the office whenever she is needed. Like any other mother, she loves her children but wants them to learn from their mistakes. She tries not to interfere in their lives but will readily give them advice regarding any problem in their lives.
3) Anjali Singh Raizada: The eldest daughter of the Mrs. and Mr. Raizada. She is 25 years old and has all the traits of Ashwin Singh Raizada dominant in her. She is a strong woman and is absolutely ruthless when it comes to business. She has just joined the Raizada Industries after completing her MBA from IIFT, Delhi. She loves her younger brothers and is always encouraging them to get what they want.
4) Akash Singh Raizada: The second child of the Raizada family and the quietest in the family. He is 21 years old and completing his final year of B.E at the university/college so that he can do MBA and join his father at the company. He is extremely shy by nature and does not get involved in any fights. He is a very studious guy and is seen most of the time either in his room or at the library with a book in his hand.
NOTE: Though I have given a character sketch, the above characters will only be shown at the beginning of the story. They may or may not be shown a lot in the remainder of the story and I may call them if and when I need them.
Also, PLEASE forgive the bloopers that I think I have made with the ages and the courses that they are pursuing. I know its lame that all that they want to do is join their father but just go along with, okay? (Please!). In my defense, the story is more about Arnav and Khushi than what they are studying.
5) Arnav Singh Raizada: The youngest son of the Raizada family and hence kind of spoilt. He is 20 years old and a part of the soccer team of the university/college. Khushi is his childhood best friend and he knows her in and out hence sharing an amazing rapport with her. Though he is a "jock", he is not interested in dating girls who swoon every time he breathes or being the popular guy at the university/college. He prefers to use the fact that he is a "jock" to his advantage by never attending lectures at the college/university and still manages to get a pretty good score on his mark sheet owing to Akash's tutoring. He loves Anjali but will never admit it even if his life depended on it. He loves to make sarcastic comments on every topic and annoy the people close to him. He can be spotted most of the times at the cafe near their college with Khushi or whiling away time in the corridors.
(Don't worry. I haven't killed ASR. He is pretty much the same rude, arrogant, egoistic prick to everyone except his teammates, family and Khushi.)
Gupta Family
1) Shashi Gupta: The owner of the Gupta Industries Ltd. which is another multinational company in partnership with the Raizada Industries. He is a man ruled by his heart in both his professional and personal life. However, it has not affected his position in biz world even a little. When it comes to family, he will do anything in his strength to make his wife, Garima and his two lovely daughters, Payal and Khushi happy. He wants his daughters to be ambitious and is always encouraging them to do what their heart tells them. Ashwin Singh Raizada is a very close friend of his and often advises him in his business deals. He is very fond of Ashwin's children and counts them as his own.
2) Garima Gupta: Wife of Shashi Gupta and repels business like two like poles of a magnet repel each other. She likes to instead invest her time in activities like painting or attending social events with Asha Singh Raizada. Like any other daughter's mother, she is insecure about Payal's and Khushi's future. However, she does not hound them with random pictures of prospective grooms. Rather, she encourages them both to get into relationships and much to her frustration she is responded with rolling of eyes from both of them.
3) Payal Gupta: The elder daughter of the Gupta family and hence more mature and understanding. Yet she possesses a very shy temperament when it comes to communicating especially with guys. She is one of the most beautiful girls in college and her refusal to date guys from the college makes her even more pursued by nearly every guy from the college. She is 21 years old in the same year as Akash and hopes to open her own business along with Khushi when they both complete their studies. She loves Khushi a lot despite the fact that Khushi doesn't leave any opportunity to tease her.

She is aware of his every like and dislike regarding and is probably the closest to him among his friends. Unlike Arnav, she is not a part of any extra-curricular activity, but she loves reading novels. She attends lectures at the college daily. She is usually found in the classrooms during college hours and after that at the cafe with Arnav. She cannot live without teasing Payal for even a day but at the end of the day she looks up to her and loves her a lot. Like Payal, she is also very attractive but she does not believe in casual dates. She is not hesitant in telling the opposite person what she thinks about them and she has her own way of judging people.
(Once again, the naive Khushi is very much there. I can remove Khushi from naivety but it's practically impossible to remove naivety from Khushi. *Do I hear people shouting L-A-M-E??*)
Others
1) NK: One of the team member of the soccer team. He is one of the uber cool people and is in the same year as Arnav and Khushi. He wins over hearts in a second with just one smile. He is quite shallow when it comes to relationships and is only interested in dating pretty faces. He has a charm which works like the Pied Pipers pipe on the rats of Hamelin. Very few people know about his this true persona like Arnav who he counts as his "best friend".
NOTE: I have only introduced one member of the soccer team yet. If any more are needed, I will update their character sketches here.
2) HP, JP, and OP: Has any story ever been complete without them? They are the faithful Prakash brotherhood working at the Raizadas as always.
