I'm glad you finally introduced NK and even more glad that Arnav's finally started using his slow brain. Hope he figures out soon that they are not just a little but WAY more than friends 😉

Chapter 6

Servant Quarters, Raizada House, Midnight

While the rest of the country was busy anticipating whether India would win any Olympic gold or not, four men gathered in the servant quarters were least concerned with the Olympics not because they were not patriots, but because they were busy with a much more significant matter than their nation winning an Olympic gold.

OP, HP, JP and Ramu kaka were gathered at the small window waiting for Khushi to return from her date so that they could decide who would win the much coveted prize money that they managed to gather by putting each of their monthly savings at stake.

Once again, the Prakash brothers were on one side, betting that Khushi will be happy when she dates Arnav and Ramu kaka was once again a loner hoping that Khushi bitiya will be happy when she comes back from her date with NK.

The judge of her mood? Ramu kaka had resolved it by simply saying," There is only one way to know if Khushi bitiya is happy'she will go straight to her bed and sleep. And if she is not happy...the next whole day,the entire family will only be eating jalebies." He sighed audibly, remembering the day when it had all started.

A visibly upset Khushi bitiya enters the till then peaceful Gupta House. She ran straight to that one thing which would give her the solution of all her problems- Food.

Ramu kaka,busy making sweets for the guests that were going to come for dinner that night, is surprised to see Khushi bitiya back from the garden where she and Arnav babu played everyday so early.

"Khushi bitiya is everything fine? How come you are home so early?",asked a concerned Ramu Kaka.

Khushi looked up quickly with wide eyes remembering something and then looked down even down even more quickly blushing. Fortunately, Ramu kaka was cooking something and did not notice this or else a cascade of questions would have rained on the already troubled girl.

Instead of answering her Kaka, she asked impatiently,"Kaka, is there any food, preferably sweets?"

Ramu kaka was now even more worried for the ten year old girl in the kitchen. He remembered serving her a really huge lunch just hours ago which she gobbled up in a span of 15 minutes and now she stood in front of him asking for more!! They didn't even feed the calf at his village so much! But no matter, his adorable Khushi bitiya would get what she wants. Besides, she was as thin as a bamboo stick so she should be fed more often!

"Why, of course there is! In fact, I am making one of my favorite sweets right now-Jalebies. I just got a fresh batch out. Here try one.", said Ramu kaka offering a piping hot jalebi to a suddenly hungry Khushi.

Khushi bit into the yellow-orange sweet and as the syrup touched her taste buds, she felt as if she had finally reached heaven. She wanted to open her eyes to check if there was a halo on top of her head but she did want the present bliss to end so instead she took a larger bite of the sometimes crunchy sometimes gooey sweet. A few minutes later, when she opened her eyes, she saw her hand empty with the syrup sticking at tips of her fingers and Ramu kaka giving her a toothy smile which said, "I know exactly how you are feeling!"

She smiled back and immediately asked him," Can I have some more? Or even better, can you teach me how to make jalebies?"

Ramu kaka laughed jovially and said," Hmmm...you are too small to learn it but I think I'll make an exception. Come here child, I'll teach you how to make the best jalebies in the world."

Khushi clapped her hands in glee and her ponytails bobbed up and down as she nodded vigorously at her eagerness to learn.

While teaching her how to make the spiral shapes, Ramu kaka tried his luck and asked her again,"So, bitiya what was it that was troubling you earlier?"

Khushi thought for a while but then seeing the shape of her jalebi going awry, she pushed out those thoughts and said," I can't remember it anymore Kaka. I'll tell you later when I remember it."

Ramu kaka chuckled at her answer and continued teaching her the art of making the famous jalebies. Probably, that was why that night, when the Singhania's had come for dinner they were greeted with a huge plates of jalebies and a very satisfied Khushi next to them, savoring each and every jalebi with relish.

Just as Ramu kaka finished narrating the tale to the Prakash brothers,a sleek black car rode up the silent lane which was well illuminated by the street lamps causing the Prakash brothers and Ramu kaka to wait with bated breath for Khushi to get out of the car.

The good part about the location of the servant quarters was that one could see everyone outside clearly but it was very difficult for the outsider to notice them because the window was well concealed from the view of the people. Now Ramu kaka knew how the Prakash brothers knew about every single neighborhood story.

The door of the car clicked open and a very beautiful Khushi in a pretty black dress stepped out of the car, her dainty feet in heels that accentuated her height. Her waist length hair was open, with the fringes framing her face making her look even more beautiful.

Ramu kaka reminded himself to get Khushi and the Payal the talisman from that eminent saint near the temple to ward off any evil from the pair of the siblings who were like his own daughters.

Khushi waved her hand as a gesture of farewell and the man sitting at the driver's seat, presumably NK, waved his hand back and the car rode away.

Khushi turned around as soon as the car had disappeared. Her face was quite expressionless. Neither was she smiling, nor was she frowning. It was to be more precise...nonchalant.

She walked up to the threshold of the house but before stepping in, she gave a long stare at the balcony outside Arnav's room as if trying to convey some kind of message to the person residing in that room. Then, finally she opened the door to her house with the keys and closed the door behind her.

All of this was observed quite keenly by the spying Prakash brothers who were genuinely confused with Khushi's reaction and Ramu kaka.

"So, what do you think? To be honest, I was quite confused by her reactions," said JP, confusion clearly etched on his face.

"Isn't it obvious, Khushi bitiya was not happy", said a clearly frustrated Ramu kaka because he realized he had lost another yet monthly savings to the Prakash brothers and the amount of jalebies which the entire house would be subject to the next day. At that moment he vowed to himself to make decisions in life more carefully.

His worries about the monthly savings were forgotten as he pondered upon the long look that Khushi had given at the balcony.
Now why would she stare at the balcony? Thought Ramu kaka curiously.

"Who lives in the room adjoining the balcony?",asked an impatient Ramu kaka.

"Arnav babu",said HP,OP and JP in unison making Ramu kaka wonder for a while how the trio were not triplets before Khushi bitiya's stare made sense to him.

"Arnav babu is in danger!!",cried out Ramu kaka as realization struck him.

"What?" said the Prakash brothers in unison once again, now annoying Ramu kaka.

"Firstly, stop speaking together. Its scaring the living daylights out of me and it is getting annoying",said Ramu kaka and when Prakash brothers nodded their heads solemnly once again together, he continued," For some strange reason, Khushi bitiya is upset with Arnav babu. In fact I'll say, 'upset' is a much milder word. She is as angry as...Mrs. Chopra was on JP for growing jasmines in her garden to which she was allergic to instead of roses."

JP shuddered visibly at the memory of a red-nosed, stout and incessantly sneezing Mrs. Chopra screaming her head off at JP in between her sneezes. HP and OP placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"If what you say is true, then this is not good news at all. Trust me on this one", said a suddenly scared JP and he looked left and right as though Mrs. Chopra was a dreadful monster who would reappear then and there to drag him away to the deepest pits of hell.

"Khushi bitiya is not like Mrs. Chopra though. She does not like shouting or screaming. She will show it in a very different way. Now how she expresses her anger is different for every person. How she deals with Arnav babu, for that we will have to wait for tomorrow", shrugged Ramu kaka thinking about the huge mound of yellow spirals that must be being made in his kitchen at that moment.

He bid farewell to his friends and turned around to go hoping that none of them would remember the bet but living in a businessman's house for so many years had made the Prakash brothers' minds sharp enough for them to remember anything related to money.

"Wait," they all said together once again, making Ramu think that it was one of those echo dialogues that they showed on the television.

"Forgot about the bet so soon, Ramu?", asked HP slyly.

Now was the time to save his dignity , thought Ramu.
"Of course not my friends, a bet is a bet and you'll will get my money when she goes out with Arnav babu and comes back happy. Till then, goodnight and all I hope for is a safe and sound Arnav babu", said a now chuckling Ramu kaka as he left to go to his own room at the Gupta House.

"Next time when we make bets, I am on his side, okay?", said an awed OP as they switched off the lights for the night hoping tomorrow would bring more such bets and ummm...dates for them to makes bets on!

I wanted to post this earlier but didn't get the time and I had to make some changes so now you'll know why I am late with the Olympics!!😆. No I am not an athlete or a sport crazy person...I just like to keep in touch with the world...😉
Note:The flashback was not just added for the sake of it... In the future chapters...the flashback will be completed but from Arnav's POV...so watch out for it!!*spoilers*
