He traced his fingers over her dried up tears making her wake up to look at her vulnerable looking husband that she had almost forgotten was a part of him and as she looked in those worried and bloodshot eyes boring into her, she heard him whisper very slowly, "Can I….can I hug you?"

Nupur was too stunned to react, not expecting this at all from him. Seeing no protest from her, he ended up hugging Nupur tight.

After a few seconds, that somehow managed to seem like an eternity, Mayank moved apart from Nupur looking at her thankfully and sorry at the same time. He was sorry for that had transpired between the from these many days, for he realized he had literally not literally taken Nupur for granted that she may not even had done at all and he was thankful because she was still there - there to tell him that he had been wrong too, there in front of him in this very moment without making him realize much what would have happened if she had too, moved away from him like he had. It was just once that she had retorted this time and he realized the worth of their togetherness. Yes, it was true that she had been wrong somewhere in all this, still he couldn't deny the fact, and also that she had not exactly convinced him about her point in deciding about Varun and taking such a big step woithout keeping him in confidence, but then he had to admit that he wasn't really helping them, was he?

He took a while to formulate his thoughts and worded, a bit uncomfortable and hesistantly as if disapproving something, "Umm…Sorry" And then he moved away.

Nupur wasn't sure what was the sorry for…for doing all that he had done in this long frustratingly-slow year, for the thing that he had done downstairs or for simply hugging her right now. But as far as she knew, Mayank wouldn't be sorry ever for that last part, for seeking comfort in her after a situation whatever be it, atleast he shouldn't be.

However angry she was at him, as she held out her hand to him and looked at his face, she ditched her boiling blood immediately when she realised that he seemed badly affected by it too, whatever was bothering him was bothering him way too much. And by the way he had reacted just now, he could well be back to her again, she needed to know the root cause now anyhow.

She knew she would tell him all that she had suffered, all that she had hated to bear with him in recent times, all that she was going to transfer to him and chastize him for, but later. Right now, shejust couldn't risk the scope of making things right as it all should be.

She saw him sit down next to her as she sat up too, and she hugged him for no particular reason she could think of. She just moved back and looked in his eyes, her eyes urging him to answer her flood of questions already.

When Mayank had held that gaze enough, he asked briskly, "What is that look supposed to mean?"

Nupur went all hyper at this question, being the Nupur that she was, she looked at him judgingly, inappreciatively and ended to speaking in a high pitch, "What is that supposed to mean?!! Are you sure Mayank Sharma you don't understand what I want to know? "

Mayank almost felt like smiling, Nupur was being so typically herself, where had she been all this while, being the silent bearer of his actions from a while. On second thoughts, he could almost kick himself for making her do so.

He was about to answer when he saw Nupur gliding back in her old habit of speaking all at once, "Mayank you have any idea what you and I have been going through and why? Why did we go through all this? I mean couldn't we just move a thing out of our way when need be? What about all the eternal promises that we made and…"

Next Nupur saw Mayank putting his finger on her lips to shut her flow of emotions verbally, Nupur realized she had almost skipped the idea of giving more room to Mayank, for his face held up an expression that said that he had wanted to speak something very serious. She felt bad for him apart from all the anger that still lingered on her mind.

Her eyes showed him that she was finally going to let him speak.

"Nupur, you are right. We shouldn't have been through all this" As he removed his finger from her lips and looked fixedly at a blank spot, she looked at him even more baffled. Was it so simple? After all the chaos in their life, was it so damn simple that he had just overlooked the prospect of them being sane enough to deal with the situation. She couldn't believe it was all.

She asked crossing her arms, "Really? Did you not think of it before today? Mr. Sane Sharma how did you make such a BIG mistake so naturally?"

Mayank knew what her sarcasm meant. He looked at her in a way that couldn't really explain what he was feeling right now. Was he agreeing to her words, sorry to her, hating her for saying that?

But one thing she knew was that things weren't just as see through as it seemed. She questioned her own question when she saw that look on his face. Why was he doing that to her now, he wasn't letting her pour her anger out to him as she was supposed to. She was in a great battle of anger and unconditionality towards him right now.

She couldn't help speaking what she did, "Mayank, your silence is just so annoying. Even now wouldn't you speak?"

Mayank knew he was now going to explain her all that he had held back in him for years now. Frankly speaking, he now found it quite stupid to have thought that the two extreme cases as one, now that he came to think of it. Had he over done it and brought out his own emotions in a very complex way?

Why hadn't Nupur asked him so straight forwardly earlier, distance from her had made him believe in somethings about her that she could never be capable of? Distance always did that, it made your heart grow fonder and it also made a wall of assumptions and presumptions to stand tough in front of your reasonings.

When he didn't speak still, lost in his own thoughts, he heard Nupur speak, "Mayank would you start speaking back like a good husband? Remember, we are supposed to be on the same side?"

Mayank astonished himself with a light smile that appeared on his face when he heard Nupur's last words. Nupur was even more astonished.

Mayank spoke out, "But will my friend lend an ear to me this once?"

Nupur was slightly shocked. Was something that serious? She thought before she spoke, "Not completely! Your wife had her rights too and rightfully so! But don't you dare try not to speak now. I want to know every thought process of yours that went into bringing Us here"

Mayank reminded her that she was at fault too.

They argued a little over that again before settling to a consensus that they both needed to explain their sides to each other. It was the least that they were supposed to do.
