~~~~~Part 24: Down the Memory Lane~~~~~
Mayank suffered severe injuries in the head-on-head collision with another car. Although the emergency services managed to stop the bleeding from the body injuries but the damage in his brains and the internal bleeding in his head remains to be a cause of concern. Since the accident, Mayank has gone through multiple surgeries on his head to stop the internal bleeding but clotting of blood in his brain cells kept him in coma for months with more surgical attempts to clear those clots and regain his conscious. Shilpa and Sharma, both had lost hopes for Mayank to ever wake up from this deep sleep. Nupur, on the other hand, who was constantly kept in loop with Mayank's health condition was pretty much in an equal condition mentally. As she waits for months after months for him to get well so that she can tell him how much she loves him….how much she regrets those moments that they lost because of her misunderstanding…she spends each and every breath of her life just waiting for him to come back to her. Whenever the doctors give an update on yet another failed surgery…fear of losing Mayank forever grips her tight as if she can't breathe anymore..
"aap aise nahi jaasakte humain chhod ke. abhi to in aankhon ne aapko dekha bhi nahi…bas ek tasweer sajaa ker rakh diya hai dil me..uss tasweer me rang to bharne dijiye humain. abhi to aapko chooN ker mehsoos bhi nahi kiye in haathon ne…bas dhadkanon ko dil se mehsoos kiya hai humnain..iss dil ko dhadakne ki wajah to na chhiniye humse…abhi to ek lamha bhi saath nahi guzaare humnain bas ek zindagi saath bitaane ka khwaab hi dekha hai humnain..iss khwaab ka tabeer to honay dijiye . hamare zindagi kahi adhura na reh jaaye. kasam hai aapko..aise zindagi k raahon me humain tanha na chhoriye…wapas ajayye hamare paas. wapas ajayye… "
as her tears fall in silence, it becomes a prayer everyday…a prayer that is listened to by the One and Only...one day…
…one day after months of being in coma, Mayank gains conscious. But due to the blood clots in his brain cells…he hardly remembers anything. Doctors are hoping that with proper medication and in due course of time, he will regain some of his memories back but it is more likely that he may need to rebuild his memories from afresh. Some new memories may trigger some very old, habitual ones but no one knows how fast this process will take to bring him to a full recovery stage. Both Shilpa and Sharma are glad to see their son alive, talking and smiling. Compared to the fact that they just got their son back from the dead, they don't mind reminding Mayank of who they are and who he is himself. Days pass by, Mayank is eventually discharged from the hospital and after spending some quality time with his family and friends, he starts rebuilding his memories i.e. still does not recall anything from past but any new people who are introduced to him or any events in past that he is reminded of, he tends to store it in his memory quite well. Soon, Mayank has enough memory where hardly anyone can tell that he actually still has an effective amnesia.
As Mayank recovers, Shilpa starts getting worried about Nupur. Aparna tells her how Nupur is sinking everyday and waiting for Mayank to return to her. Shilpa, on the other hand, is waiting for the right time to tell Mayank about Nupur. But she is not sure how much she can help as they have not met each other for the past 1o years and hence there are no memories between them, at least not that she is aware of. In that case, reminding him of Nupur is simply not sufficient enough to rebuild his memory. There's got to be another way…she thinks to herself when a way automatically walks to her doorstep. One day, Mayank comes to his mother with a letter..
M: maa…yeh dekhiye meri table ki drawer se yeh letter mila. Envelope per kisi 'Nupur' ka naam likkha hai. yeh Nupur kaun hai? aur yeh khat kisne likkha? sealed hai envelope to samajh nahi aaraha k kisne likkha aur kisko likkha
S: beta agar teri draw me se nikla hai to tera hi hoga na?
M: maa tum bhi kamaal karti ho. maine likkha hota to mujhe pata nahi hota? aur main to iss Nupur ko jaanta tak nahi. na jaane kaise aagaya meri table ki drawer me!!
Shilpa understands that it was a letter written to Nupur by Mayank before the accident. She comes up with an idea where she suggests Mayank to go to India. She firmly believes that if Mayank meets Nupur just once, then Nupur can help him recall those memories…thats the only way!
S: ohh…yaad aaya. Nupur! are woh to Bhushan bhai ki beti hai. India me rehti hai.
M: accha? per yeh letter yahan kaise aaya?
S: woh to nahi pata beta. per teri draw me se nikla to yeh to tera farz bannta hai na k uss tak yeh letter pohuncha de
M: issme kya hai maa…main post kara deta hoon
S: nahi…mera matlab hai k pata nahi kisne likkha hoga. zaroori bhi to hosakta hai na? agar usse post karana hota to woh khud na kara deta, teri draw me kyun rakhta? I think…tujhe khud jaake dena chahiye yeh khat. isi bahane Bhushan uncle se mil bhi lena. aur Nupur to teri bachpan ki dost hai. usse bhi mil lena. acchi khaasi break bhi hojayegi teri
After Shilpa's insisting, Mayank has no choice but to go to India to hand deliver the letter to Nupur himself.
