~~~~~Part 17: Truth or Fiction~~~~~
A somewhat unusual day in Nupur's house today. Everyone is gathered in her bedroom…Bhushan and Aparna are standing by Nupur who is in bed and is being attended by their family doctor. Both Bhushan and Aparna are extremely worried. Nupur is usually quite healthy but this sudden turn of event has brought anxiety to the family.
B: kya hua Mehta..kuch bol na! meri bacchi to kabhi aise bimar nahi hoti aur ab dekh…hosh hi nahi hai isse. 2 din se bukhar bhi hai…utaarne ka naam hi nahi leraha.
Dr: hmm…mujhe bhi kuch samajh nahi aaraha k achanak se itna tez bukhar kaise charha Nupur ko. shayed baarish me bheegi hogi..baharhaal tu fiker mat kar. maine injection laga diya hai..bukhar utar jaayega iss se. per yeh kuch dawayi hai jo isse regularly lena hai warna bukhar phir se laut sakta hai
B: tu sahi tarha se bol Mehta..koi fiker karnewali baat to nahi na?
Dr: arre tujhe hamesha tension lagi rehti hai. maine kaha na…thik hojayega sab. chal ab main chalta hoon..shaam ko phir se bacchi ko dekhne aajaoonga.
Dr. Mehta leaves the room. Worried parents are sitting on the bed nursing their only child.
B: Apu..isse kya hogaya achanak?
A: pata nahi ji…parson hi acchi bhali thee. ghar aayi…mujhse dair raat tak baat ki. phir subhe aake dekhti hoon bacchi ka badan tap raha hai. itni kaushish ki per bukhar utaar hi nahi paaye hum (she starts weeping)
B: fiker mat karo..Mehta ne keh diya na k pareshaani ki koi baat nahi. thik hojayega sab. main jaaker yeh dawaai ley aata hoon.
As he walks out of the room, he sees Diya entering. She indicates her to go to the room and leaves. Diya rushes in and gives Nupur a tight hug who is still subconscious. She takes over from Aparna and insists that she takes some rest while she watches over Nupur. As Aparna leaves, Diya starts wondering the cause of Nupur's sudden change in her health. She wipes Nupur's forehead with a wet cloth and watches over her waiting eagerly for her to regain her consciousness. Another couple of days pass by and Nupur recovers slightly but is still in bed with weakness. Diya has been visiting her regularly and looking after her for hours and hours each day helping Nupur to recover soon. Today, she walks in with a bunch of tulips in her hand and a box of choco for her bestie..
D: hey jaana..kaisi hai tu? (with a big smile on her face she embraces Nupur)
N: thik hai hum..tu bata kaisi hai?
D: ab tu thik hogayi hai na..to main bhi kaafi acchi feel kar rahi hoon. dekh tere liye tere favorite flowers and chocos. (And she opens the choco box and starts feeding Nupur)
N: nahi re..accha nahi lag raha kuch. tu khaa (and she puts the choco in Diya's mouth instead)
D: (Cannot help but notice that sadness on her face) jaana..tujhe kya hua hai?
N: (puts a fake smile on her face) kya hona hai? woh ussdin baarish me bheeg gayi thee na to iss liye shayed bukhar aagaya tha
D: dekh Nupur tujhe main bachpan se jaanti hoon. Morena me na pehlibaar baarish hui hai aur na hi pehli baar tu iss baarish me bheegi hai. In fact baarish me bheegna to teri aadat hai barson se.
N: haan to kya hua! itne din bimar nahi hui to kya kabhi nahi hongi. tu bhi na…
D: accha thik hai maan liya k baarish k wajah se bukhar aaya. per teri chehre me yeh udaasi kyun? kya yeh bhi baarish me bheegne ki wajah se hai kya?
N: aisa kuch nahi hai Diya…kuch bhi to nahi (and she looks away from Diya)
D: (is now sure something is not right) to thik hai phir…khaa meri kasam k tu mujhse kuch nahi chupa rahi..k tujhe koi pareshaani nahi sataa rahi…k teri iss bimari ki ya mental stress ki wajah kuch aur nahi..khaa kasam (as she holds Nupur's hand on her head)
N: (no longer manages to lie any further and breaks down into tears…she instantly embraces Diya) humain kuch samajh nahi aaraha Diya
D: jaan tu pehle bata to mujhe! hua kya hai? main hoon na tere liye..jo bhi uljhan hai..jo bhi mushkil hai dono milke solve kar lete hai. bata kya hua!
Nupur struggles to find the right words to describe what she is feeling and why..all she does is gives a staring look at that red card on the table. Diya follows her sight and picks the card up.
D: yeh to Mayank ki shaadi ki card hai. hamari ghar pe bhi aaya hai. in fact Shilpa aunty ne phone kiya tha..unhone kaha hai k shaadi ki tayyari me hum sab unnki madad kare. main to isi liye aayi thee tere paas k dono milke planning karte hai. aakhir Mayank hum dono ka bhi kuch na kuch to lagta hai na. (As she is blabbering on and on about the wedding…suddenly she stops and wonders why was Nupur hinting towards the card as a reason for her breakdown?) ……Nupur..main kuch samajh nahi paarahi.
N: (hides her face between her knees as she weeps) hum unnke baghair jee nahi sakte Diya!
D: (shocked as ever) matlab? kya..kya matlab hua isska? Are you in love with him?
N: (no response)
D: per yeh kaise mumkin hai? I mean woh to 10 saal se yahan nahi hai! to kya tu ek tarfa hi usse pyar kar rahi thee?? arrree bol na kuch!!! kab se yeh sab? aur kyun? kaise?
Nupur could not bring herself up to a stage where she can answer Diya's questions and they both understood Nupur needs a bit more time and courage to confess the truth to her best friend. They spend the whole day together without talking about Mayank. Whilst Diya is waiting for the right time when Nupur will come up with the truth herself, Nupur, on the other hand, is actually pulling her thoughts together so that she can actually express what is happening to her. As the sun sets and both Nupur and Diya quietly watch the scene from the balcony, suddenly Nupur starts…
N: bachpan se lekar aaj tak hum kabhi bhi unhe bhula nahi paaye. woh shaks jo hamari dost bannker 9 saal ki umer tak hamare saath raha, usske door chale jaane ki bawajood bhi iss faasle ka ahsaas humain kabhi mehsoos hi nahi hua. bachpan se lekar jawani tak woh na hote hue bhi hamare saath hi bade hue. unka saath humain sirf tanhayi me nahi..hazaron ki bheer me bhi mehsoos hota hai. woh hamare zindagi me kab aaye…phir kab zindagi se nikal ke hamare yaadon me bas gaye aur phir yaadon se nikal ke rooh me utar gaye ..humain pata hi nahi chala. humnain to bas unhe apne har saans me jeeya hai…har khushi me paaya hai aur har gham me mehsoos kiya hai. in sab me hum yeh to bhool hi gaye the ke haqeeqat ka chehra shayed kuch aur hi hai..(she wipes her tears)
D: kya Mayank ko yeh sab pata hai? kya usse pata hai k jisse woh bhool gaya hai saalon pehle woh aaj bhi usska intezar kar rahi hai? kya usse pata hai k tunay siwaye usske kisi aur ko apne zindagi me kabhi aane hi nahi diya? kya usse itna sa bhi andaaza hai k tu usse kitna pyar karti hai?
N: tere sawalon ka koi jawab nahi hai mere paas Diya. per haan…hamare jazbon ka ilm hai unhe
D: per kaise? I mean..tum dono to mile hi nahi ek doosre se itne saal…phir kaise?
Nupur now tells her the truth..from that letter that Diya brought her to the proposal….everything! Diya is nothing but alarmed by the turn of the events.
D: Nupur tunay yeh sab kuch mujhe pehle kyun nahi bataya? itna sab kuch hogaya! woh bhi itne dino se chal raha hai..ekbar bhi tujhe yeh nahi laga k at least apne best friend ko hi kuch bata de! isi liye tu itne busy rehti thee? isi liye hum ek doosre se mil nahi paa rahe the! ab samajh aaya sab kuch. aur main buddhu…mujhe lagah k tu aur Tanmay…
N: Tanmay!! nahi…aisa kuch nahi hai
D: per ek baat mujhe samajh nahi aaraha Nupur. Mayank aisa kaise kar sakta hai!
N: aisa matlab?
D: Nupur..woh pichle 6 mahine se Simran se engaged hai. Mayank ko to maine bhi nahi dekha….woh letter bhi mujhe aunty ne diya tha Mayank ke taraf se. per Simran ko main jaanti hoon…mili thee usse issbaar. In fact Raheja's papa ki acchi friend hai. Simran aur Mayank dono ek saath ek hi university me parte hai. woh dono ek doosre ko 2 saal se jaante hai. aur maine yeh bhi suna hai k shaadi bhi dono ki marzi se horahi hai. Uncle Aunty ki shayed kuch aur plan tha Mayank ki shaadi ko lekar but they didn't impose on him. mujhe kuch samajh nahi aaraha Nupur! Mayank ne tere saath aisa kyun kiya? aakhir kya haasil hua ussko? agar yeh mazzak tha to kaafi ghatiya mazzak tha aur agar serious tha to Simran k saath dhokha horaha hai kya? per usse to usski shaadi horahi hai…kuch samajh me nahi aaraha
While Diya is lost in her thoughts trying to figure out how could Mayank do this..what she doesn't notice that Nupur has gone completely pale and before Diya could could turn to her and say anything further, Nupur has lost her conscious again and fell on the floor.
