Awkward Situations
Before he could even say anything, or rather yell out his mother's name, the TV awakened Angad's slumber. Not knowing what to do, Josh took a step backward and asked, "What are you doing on my couch?" Angad on the other hand sat upright on the couch not really sure what was going on. He had drunk too much last night and he had gotten a little disoriented--what was he really doing on his couch? "I don't know Josh...Josh right?" "Yea, Josh. You're the Uncle that we saw at Mishty Aunties house. Par aap yahan? Mama ne kaha tha ki voh aapko jaanti nahi..." Josh said trying to figure out the puzzle while he sat down next to this known stranger. Angad's facial expression changed a little and murmured, "Jaanti hai...thi" Trying to figure out what he was saying under his breath, Josh asked "Kya Uncle?" There was something intriguing about this Uncle, Josh finalized, he kind of liked this guy...but why?
Suddenly as if his memory flooded back to him, he remembered as to how he had gotten here--his car had died right near where Kripa lived. He thought about how ironic it was that his path had led to her house. Just as Angad was about to give an answer to Josh about the reason he had come over, Kripa came downstairs while calling out Josh's name. "Josh!! MERA HANDSOME PRINCE! Tune..." she stopped on the last step, shocked to see Angad with Josh talking and now both looking in her direction. "Idiot!" she whispered to herself, how had she forgotten about him coming/barging into her house at night?
"Mama, look who I found on the couch!" Josh said excitedly as if he had made a new discovery. She looked toward Angad who looked so disheveled and tired. Now that she noticed his features, he looked like he had lost a lot of weight. STOP she said to herself...stop looking at him and get him out of here.
"Haan...Josh go brush your teeth and take a shower, or else no cartoons and pancakes!" Kripa knew how to negotiate with her son when it came to Saturday mornings. She wanted to get rid of Angad peacefully, not having to ask any of Josh's questions while doing so. "Okay Mama! I want blueberry ones today!" Josh excitedly got up from the couch and ran to the bathroom. But after a second, he came back, to say "Uncle...make sure you stick around for breakfast! Mama makes the best pancakes!" He smiled and waited for this Uncle to answer. Angad looked at Kripa and then at Josh. He smiled and said, "Sure buddy!" He really didn't want to stay, but the fact that the little kid asked him in such a cute way had made his heart melt.
After Josh left for the shower, the two adults were finally alone. Kripa looked up at Angad, not saying anything until she heard the water turn on in the bathroom. When it did, she changed her calm expression to a fierce one. Angad tried to figure out what was exactly going on in her head. But not for very long...Kripa started her long lecture. "Angad! WHAT THE HECK!? What is you PROBLEM?" Angad, not ready for the bombardment of questions said, "What? Are you talking about staying for breakfast? Let me tell you, I was going to say no, but your kid asked me in the sweetest way. I didn't want to say no to him okay."
Irritated, Kripa yelled "I'm not talking about that Angad! And thank you, I've taught him well. I'm actually talking about how you decided that it was a great idea to come to my house AT NIGHT and that too DRUNK! Couldn't you go home or go somewhere else? What's the deal huh?" "But Kripa...I couldn't." he tried to explain. "Don't lie! You could! You can always do something. But no...all you know is how to make my life harder. Why did you even say you would stay!? God! You could have just said you had to leave or something. Good for nothing!" "Kripa! I would have left, gone home...but my car broke down. I saw a house and I decided to get some help. Before I knew it...I just passed out...on your couch. I was just too tired I guess" Angad explained in a calm manner. "Too tired? My foot!" Kripa decided that was all she was going to say now. She still had to make food for Josh...and now Angad.
