yes that is what I thought too but Urmila has brought in a different angle to the statement.. whatever it means, I wonder why they did not answer.. so much was the tension around? 😕

But shall this my son born after him become king? Tell me truly what is lawful and right under these circumstances.

if what you think is right, then Dhrit is definitely very smart 😆 and so are those who did not answer 😆 or many be some shift+del

The verse is: Ayam tu anantarah tasmaad api raajaa bhabishyati
[Ayam = this/it, tu = but, anantarah = after, tasmaad = him, api = too, raajaa = King, bhabishyati = will be]
So this becomes: "But will it (child) too be King after him?"
See that there is no mention of 'born' in the verse. No mention of 'jaata' or any similar word which represents 'birth'. So KMG's 'born after him' does not seem correct.
And this theory is explained by a researcher too whose book I have read. He wrote that Vidur understood Dhrit's intention behind his words so he asked Dhrit to abandon Duri.

i think the elder cousin younger cousin thing was not a really big deal.. if Ps n Ks were united HP would have been one under whom all 104 accepted as leader.. if none were united, then HP would have been split into 105..

Probably the stronger ones would have subjugated the weaker ones, in that case

Bheeshma and Vidur should have explicitly stated what the law was no? I think Dhrit took it which ever way he wanted it to.

Whatever Dhrit's intension, telling parents to abandon a new born infant is cruel, i think. Bheeshma and Vidur could have taken some other way out to make Dhrit understand and also make sure Dury didn't become, what he became. Instead everyone just ignored everything

@ashne: I agree. But I do think that Dhirt was the most responsible to spoil Duri. Bhishma & Vidur tried their best, but father's duty comes first IMO, and here father taught him to disobey all elders from childhood. Father was always a yesman for Duri. See, how could Duri make a picnic spot in Pramaankoti at age of 15? He must have enough royal machinery at his hand, no? Also see that Duri wanted to make other 4 prisoners after killing Bheem so that he could rule HP. How can a 15 year boy think this if he was not already spoiled?

True that. It just shows what miserable parents they were. Dhrit probably pinned all his wishes and desires on him. I must give it to Kunti here (I'm not very fond of her), But at least she knew how to raise decent kids with strong moral values.
