Karna has a story of lost possibilties.
If I am reading Urmila right, she is saying it was a trade. KK for Shakthi.

Am not certain what is wrong with that. It was not a bad thing to be sure and quite clever. Someone tried to use his virtue against him and he made certain he got something in return. Does that take away any daan he may have done till then or afterward?

Also am not certain how much I believe all these stories about vows and promises and curses. Most of the time they make me want to say 'how short sighted and idiotic of someone celebrated as a hero'. I believe most of these were added later to make them look heroic /evil.

But yes, their definitions of daana seems more logical for me than any dictionary or internet.

I dnt deny the definations of daan u posted mayb its right nd morally correct as they r mentioned in the epic, bt the things I posted is nt ny random mocking FB posts claiming in favour of certain fan group its by scholars nd high professors author gives link to everything he says if u check few words r hyperlinked!! If u search on Boloji u will find even more that nd such things jst cant be ignored as we r dissecting the epic if I m right!!!

One thing I seriously dislike about what people propogate about Karna is his mahaan-bechara-daanveer image. I do remember once I was left almost lifeless for saying that. But, let anything come. As long as Daana is a give & take policy, I never wish to see Karna as a fool who lost something that protected his life & stood like a dumbo loser there.

exactly!!

Vaisampayana continued, "When the illustrious slayer of Paka refused to ask for any other boon, Kama with a smile again addressed him, saying, 'O god of gods, even before this, I had recognised thee, O Lord! O Sakra, it is not proper for me to confer on thee any unprofitable boon, for thou art the very lord of the celestials! On the contrary, being as thou art the Creator and lord of all beings, it is thou that shouldst confer boons on me! If, O god, I give thee this coat of mail and ear-rings, then I am sure to meet with destruction, and thou shalt also undergo ridicule! Therefore, O Sakra, take my earrings and excellent mail in exchange for something conferred by thee on me! Otherwise, I will not bestow them on thee!' Thereupon Sakra replied, 'Even before I had come to thee, Surya had known of my purpose and without doubt,it is he that hath unfolded everything unto thee! O Karna, be it as thou wishest! O son, except the thunder-bolt alone, tell me what it is that thou desirest to have!'"

He ws clever here nd did the right thing at right time!! plus evidence to whatever Online writers write is bcoz the study something nd nt jst personal belief!!!!😊

In Van parva, Udyoga parva he is blamed for trying to stop war... oh how dare he not want to take revenge on them who assaulted his wife? Ok fine. But then, after war, people again raise their finger to the same man. How dare he cause such a mass destruction? It's a double edged sword. He should always be blamed, because people have decided to blame him no matter what!

@ indian princess . arjiit and urmila

the reason why Yudi is blamed is because of one thing only - EXPECTATION !
u know the dumbledore's dialogue fits for him - "I make mistakes like the next man. In fact, being--forgive me--rather cleverer than most men, my mistakes tend to be correspondingly huger. "

we expect a Dharmaraj to know when to abandon the cloak of dharma to save a women, instead of being a slave to it allow the biggest adharm to happen under its protection (its what Krishna says he would have done - he would not wait and think about subtleties of morality here)

we expect an Emperor to know the minds of his enemies when the invitation for dyuta comes the second time and put the welfare of his ctizens and his family and decline it politely rather than uphelding his vow (of not refusing anyhting) and breaking the one a King takes on coronation to protect his citizens and treat them like his children!!

we expect a Elder brother who is given a status almost of a father to shut his younger oversmart brother with an order when he knows it to be a solution to their current problem

its easy to accept cruelties/harshness in words or actions by your enemies because you know their nature but its cuts you deep frozen and leaves you embittered when the same is done by a person you respect/love - why?? -because you dont expect it from them!!!
When we put a person on a pedestal above the other characters his faults leaves us disappointed which turns into an attack.

maybe it is our fault or fallibility that we expect Yudhister -the man to forsake dharma to do the right things rather than aspiring to be Dharmaraj - the epitome of righteousness and endure/suffer alongwith his family for others deeds in the name of dharma.

beacause in the end it all comes down to what you did vs what you thought and trust me actions always speaks louder and sometimes crushing your inner thoughts.

KMG is quite contradictory on the Kavach-Kundal daan scene. Below is the citation which says Indra gave Karna Vasavi because he was impressed by him.

"..Indra in the guise of a Brahmana. And the chief of the celestials accepted the gift and was exceedingly gratified with Karna's liberality. He therefore, gave unto him a fine dart, saying, 'That one (and one only) among the celestials, the Asuras, men, the Gandharvas, the Nagas, and the Rakshasas, whom thou desirest to conquer, shall be certainly slain with this dart..."

This cannot be denied as well since this is also present in KMG. You cannot deny one part of KMG while simultaneously basing your arguments on another.

@ Bhas

Not only do we have expectations of Yudhi, he is actually supposed to be the Emperor of Aryavarta and as such he has responsibilities other than his personal honor. Yes he is expected to know and he should have had enough savvy to know that all is not well, he should have had enough self control to not keep on wagering, he should have had the inner fortitude to forsake his own personal honor for the protection of the weak.

Its not a matter of just our expectations.

It is a matter of what is expected of Yudhi as the Emperor. He could not do it

Since I keep quoting the Mallu version, I thought I would post the link. There are a few interesting variations

1) Krishna knew about KUNTI's sons before gurukul because Vyasa told him (assuming that includes Karna, since it says Kunti's sons and not Pandavas) and he had Akrura give Kunti the message that he knew

2) Drona attacks Panchal because Drupad was not doing his job and there was a 12 year famine

3) KRISHNA stops Karna from participating. Panchali looks at Karna with desire🤢 but only because she thinks he is Arjun (seems to me she was actually part of the plan to get to Arjun as I have said a gazillion times already😆 and this desire business is actually 'wanting for him to win' I think)

4) There is no rescue by Krishna during VH😭. The ladies covered her with more sarees when Dushy pulled hers off

5) The Yadvas army takes both sides with Balram on one side with half the army and Krishna / Satyaki on the Pandavas' side with the other half - they were not spared the agonies of loss (why was Satyaki with Pandavas? I know its there in KMG too, but why? Even if he was Arjun's student, seems to me Balram with Arjun for a BIL would be closer even if Dury was his student😕)

6) Yudhi curses Krishna, it was not Gandhari

7) Yudhi and Bheem wanted to kill Ashwi, Arjun captures Ashwi, Panchali asks them to let him go

No offense meant bt I dnt see it as a Business deal as how it can b a business where there is no profit? plus KK wasn't an exchange for Shakti that too on so many Terms & Conditions!! plus isn't it wrong to expect a Daanveer nature in that scene where the person in front of u has come to make u vulnerable nd most important in order bcoz he ws worried 4 his Bio child who is ur biggest rival?? that ws even more a brilliant game of minds where a person plays on ur nature to make u vulnerable and the other person shows his presence of mind nd does a clever move by nt letting it happen completely!! Plus Karna wasn't a Daanveer bcoz Indra asked him KK nd he did a KK daan but Indra asked him KK bcoz he was a Daanveer!! The topic is really dragged extra nd if its done more its better for me to take out my Science book nd practice someting as reading statements with supported theories is far much better then reading any personal opinions nd getting into conflicts plus it would help me in my boards next year😛
