Chapter 1:

Suhasini and Devraj hasn't been able to stop looking at this sweet girl. Even the nurse was surprised how easily the three of them bonded together in such a short time.

Suhasini~ "Suman, you have a really lovely name, just like yourself."

Devraj agrees. Suman gives a sweet smile to them.

Suhasini~ "Suman beta, would you like to come home with us?"

Suman stared at her, not knowing what to say. But after a long moment she finally made a gentle node. Suhasini caressed here again.

Devraj~ "Suman beta, we should all go home now... everyone must be waiting for us."

Suhasini~ "Yes, and you will also meet the rest of your family members too. You will have your own room and everything."

Devraj~ "Suhasini ji now you are sounding like you are bribing her." He teased.

Suhasini~ "Who... me? No. I'm just happy to have my daughter back."

Devraj~ "You can talk to your daughter on the way. Maa'sa might be getting worried we took so long."

Suhasini~ "You know Maa'sa very well. Once we get home, I won't have time to spend time with my daughter alone."

Devraj~ "Then you want to keep your daughter here in the hospital?"

Suhasini~ "No, that's not what I meant... I just... never mind. Let's go."

Suhasini got up and offered her hand to Suman as a gesture for her to come with her. Suman was bonding well with Suhasini and didn't hesitate to take her hand. They all got in the car and left for home. All the way Suhasini kept caressing Suman and talking to her.

Suhasini~ "Suman... you know you have a lovely family. You have dadi'sa who just loves her grandkids. Then you have your chote papa and choti maa..." during the whole conversation Suman smiled every time Suhasini mimicked one of the family members. Their return journey to home was much too pleasant for them than the last month they spent mourning for Disha.

Watching Suman smile in her laps, Suhasini hugged Suman and thought to herself "I fulfilled my promise Disha... I found the god's will... I found your sister."

Back at Mittal residence, Nupur is doing her usual religious prayer when dadi ji arrives. Dadi ji looks around and asks Nupur if she heard anything from Devraj or Suhasini. Nupur completes her prayers before replying to her.

Nupur~ "Maa'sa, bade bhai sahab and bhabhi'sa should have returned by now. Usually if they get stuck somewhere they call ahead."

Dadi ji~ "I don't know but it feels like the happiness of this family got jinxed somehow. Only god knows when it will get better for Devraj and Suhasini. The pain of losing a child is something no parent should ever go through."

Nupur~ "Maa'sa please don't lose heart. Today the priest told me that we will have our prayers answered and this cloud of despair will clear off from our family. I for one know for sure that what he said will come true."

Just then the call rings. Nupur suggests that it must be from bade bhai sahab. She holds the phone and starts counting.

Dadi ji~ "What are you counting? Pick up the phone."

Nupur makes a gesture for her to wait and when her count reaches 23 she picks up the phone. It was Devraj on the other end of the phone. Devraj asks Nupur to get some stuff ready and says he will tell everything after getting back home. Then he disconnects the call.

Nupur~ "Actually Maa'sa, the priest also told me to count to 23 before picking up any call. It will bring in good news."

Dadi ji~ "Ok, leave it at that. Tell me what happened? What did Devraj say?"

Nupur~ "He didn't say much, only asked to get some things ready. He did sound his usual self on the phone. Seems like we are welcoming someone today."

Dadi ji~ "Hmmm... who could it be that cheered Devraj and he even asked to make preparations to welcome them? Well whoever it may be, I'm glad they are coming to lift the spirits of this house."

Nupur~ "Very true maa'sa. Ok let me make preparations for their welcome." She leaves.

Dadi ji turns towards the lord's idol and prays to him "Please remove all the sadness from his family and fill their life with happiness."

Nupur with little help from their servant chaman ji quickly makes some preparations for welcoming this unknown guest. Brijesh Aakash and Sindoora notices Nupur making the preparations. Sindoora inquires and all Nupur could tell was what Devraj asked of her since she didn't knew anything more than that. Sahil Manan and Ranveer, who are seven five and four years old respectively, are running around playing when they arrive in the hall. Sahil notices everyone gathered and asks innocently what is going on. Brijesh tells him that their bade papa is coming home with someone and they all are getting ready to welcome them. Sahil helps settle down Manan and Ranveer too.

A while later, Devraj Suhasini and Suman arrives at the doorstep. Devraj knocks on the door. Nupur opens the door to reveal the mystery person who they were all expecting. It was more of a surprise for them to see a little girl with Devraj and Suhasini. Seeing so many people all together, it was slightly scary for little Suman as well. So Suman holds on to Suhasini as she was the only one she knew more than everyone else. Sindoora was the first one to ask.

Sindoora~ "Who is this girl bade bhai sahab? The way you asked for all the preparations, we thought you are bringing someone important."

Suhasini~ "You thought right Sindoora. She is important as she is going to be a part of our family." She replied as she stroked Suman gently on her head.

Devraj~ "What Suhasini said is true. Maa'sa, I think it is fate that we met this girl today. I cannot explain it but I have felt a bond with her from the moment I saw her. It was like she filled the emptiness within me and Suhasini that we felt after losing Disha."

Dadi ji didn't said anything but only looked at little Suman with love in her eyes. She slowly went to bring the "pooja ki thali" and did the welcome ritual for suman. When dadi'sa tried to apply vermilion, suman held to Suhasini. Suhasini bends over to show that it is only a way to welcome. Dadi'sa first applies the vermilion to Suhasini then Suman lets her apply vermilion to her as well.

Dadi'sa passes the "pooja ki thali" to Nupur and welcomes Suman in the house. She extends her hand to Suman who hesitates for a moment before holding her hand and then steps inside the door. Dadi'sa takes her in the hall and gets her seated beside her. Like Suhasini, dadi'sa also kisses Suman on the forehead. Curious about who she is and where she came from, Manan and Ranveer rush beside dadi'sa and stands there.

Manan~ "Dadi'sa, who is she?"

Suhasini~ "Manan beta, she is Suman... your sister."

Manan gets happy "Wow, her name also rhymes with mine."

Nupur~ "Manan, but you will not tease your sister. She is younger than you which means you have to be sincere and watch over her."

Ranveer~ "I'm also older than her. Does that mean I will have to watch over her as well?"

Aakash~ "Why not Ranveer? Like Sahil bhai looks after you and Manan, you should look after your sister as well."

Sindoora is irked because no one questioned any details about this new so called member of the family and accepted her just like that. Sindoora wonders if the rest of the family members even get to put up their opinion in matters like these as there should be lot of procedures and thoughts over adopting a child but Devraj and Suhasini didn't speak with anyone and simply brought in a girl they practically know nothing about. Sindoora's train of thoughts is broken when she hears Ranveer ask a question.

Ranveer~ "Why does she has bandage on her arm and her leg?"

Devraj picks up Ranveer in his arm and asks Suhasini to show Suman her room. Suhasini takes Suman to show her the room and rest of the house. Once Suhasini left with Suman, Devraj narrates everyone what he had learned about Suman in the hospital. Hearing the sad story about what happened with Suman, everyone had a softer spot for the poor little girl, except Sindoora.

Sindoora~ "I must apologise for saying this but... Didn't it occur to you bade bhai sahab that this girl is nothing but trouble? I mean... she is so young and she lost everyone she once called family. Is it necessary to bring someone like her in the family? Even we have little kids, what if her presence here affects our kids?"

Dadi'sa~ "Seriously Sindoora? You are so modern and "living in the present" kind of lady. I didn't expected you to say such things... and that too about a girl so little who doesn't even understand basic things yet. If Nupur had said something like that I would have understood. You are not the type to believe in such things."

Sindoora~ "Sorry maa'sa but a mother tends to get a little anxious when it comes to protecting her kids."

Dadi'sa~ "Protective mother I can understand as I'm also a mother. But your argument against a little girl like Suman is pointless. I wonder what you will do when one day you will have to pick a bride for your son." She teased Sindoora which did hit her like a thorn in her side.

After that, everyone went back to their work that they were busy with. Devraj, Brijesh and Aakash went back to their business related work. Nupur went to check up on the kitchen duty. Dadi'sa joined with Suhasini followed by three curious little boys of the family.

When the four of them arrived in Suman's room, Suhasini had already given her a bath and now was doing her long dark brown hairs. Suman's old bandages were taken off as Suhasini was going to put on fresh bandages. Dadi'sa and the boys now saw her burns which were not at all severe... something that would easily heal within 3-4 days.

Ranveer~ "Dadi'sa... can I put on the bandage on her injury?"

Dadi'sa~ "Ranveer beta, a burn should not be tied up with bandage. Instead it should be left open to heal." She explained.

Ranveer~ "Then let me apply that on her injury." He said pointing at the ointment Suhasini was about to apply to Suman's burns.

Suhasini~ "Ranveer you are too little, you don't understand it yet. You might accidentally hurt her."

Ranveer~ "Please let me apply that. I promise I will be very careful. Please... please." He pleaded.

Suhasini tried to reason with Ranveer that he won't be able to apply it gently but Ranveer remained stubborn about his innocent request.

Dadi'sa~ "Ok, if you want to take care of her, you can apply the ointment on her injury, but be gentle. You don't want her to get hurt. Suhasini, let him apply the ointment."

Ranveer understood. With Suhasini's help, Ranveer gently applied the soothing ointment on Suman's injury. Like the way elders use to blow and say nothing happened... or almost done... little Ranveer mimics the same way while applying the ointment to Suman's injury. This cuteness made dadi'sa and Suhasini smile a little.

Manan~ "Dadi'sa... badi maa... can we take Suman with us to play?" he asks excitedly.

Dadi'sa~ "Manan beta, she just came today. And she also has injury. Why don't you three let her rest for today? Tomorrow you can show her around the house and play with her."

Manan~ "Promise dadi'sa?" he demanded.

Dadi'sa~ "Ok, promise." She replied in a surrender tone.

Getting assurance from dadi'sa, all three brothers left to continue with what they were doing earlier. Once the boys had left, dadi'sa looks at Suhasini then admiringly looks at Suman.

Suhasini~ "Our boys are so excited to see Suman like they have found a new toy... or a new member for their team to do mischiefs around the house."

Dadi'sa~ "You know our buys don't care for toys much. It seems that later is more sensible scenario in their case. First there were three to keep whole house on their toes, now they have become four."

Suhasini~ "I wouldn't be so sure about that. Girls are usually more quiet type and less mischievous than boys."

Dadi'sa~ "You already saw how Manan and Ranveer treated her. You really think they won't be able to lure Suman in their mix?"

Suhasini~ "When you put it that way, it makes more sense. I guess I don't mind Suman bonding well with them."

Dadi'sa~ "But we know someone in this family would..."

Suhasini~ "Sindoora..."

It was like a type of personal joke that made them laugh freely after a month of sorrow.

Dadi'sa~ "I'm glad to have this little girl as part of our family. She brought back the happiness that went missing from everyone's life for the past month. She has made this home whole again."

Suhasini~ "Like you always say maa'sa, god has plans for us all. All we need to do is endure through his tests to earn his blessings."

Dadi'sa~ "God has sent his very blessings and love in the form of Suman."

Suhasini~ "Maa'sa, careful... if your grandsons heard you, they might think you like Suman more than them."

Dadi'sa caresses Suman "Let them... daughters are after all, the life and spirit of a house. Only the house with a daughter knows their value in the hearts and souls of the people. Daughters aren't call "ghar ki Lakshmi" for no reason."

Suhasini~ "True word maa'sa."
