Nandy...isn't it a time honored tradition of desitv soaps to make their bahus mahaan and their betas nincompoops? Not even a King can escape this diktat as we have seen..
.
I really don't know enough about the writer to comment...but women seem to enjoy pride of place on TV just as men rule the roost in Bollywood..

However, in the context of a love story, such lopsided characterization and tracks take the sheen away from the romance that the audience signs up for.

Unfortunately, after a point, the love story is between the FL and her ego...the ML is collateral damage...

Unlike Superman who battles to save the world, the FL battles to save the ML and his family from every evil under the sun...the ML is of course blissfully unaware of her efforts and strategies...

Sometimes, it appears, that the ML comes of use only when the FL, between her many fights, needs a break for R&R...just the inverse of how it is in the movies...!

I was hoping this show would be different since the ML here is a King...but even the King does not stand a chance against desitv soap logic clearly...more's the pity!

Why can't we have two strong leads? Why does one have to be sidelined at the cost of another? Tracks may keep shifting from one to another but can't they keep core traits intact?

For me, the biggest shock was when RNJ gave away his crown to KC. Not even a mentally deranged RNJ would do that. I can't come to terms with how they got him to do it just so G could dance her way into a coronation party!

It is as if these silly dance routines are more important than core characterization, logic or clever story telling..!

"Gayathri...aap ke pyaar mein humein zillat bhi manzoor hain..!"
OMG...how prophetic this line was...I just realized...poor RNJ was setting himself up for all the butchering his character was going to be subjected to in the ensuing track...!

Lallu, brainless, weak, idiot etc etc...some of the choice epithets flung at him...

G should be singing " Koi pathar se na maare mere deewane ko..!

Good ost Bertie.
Your totally right about writing for ML vs FL
I think having 2 strong leads needs strong writing too. And that is lacking. Like writing a believable MU and build it up takes time, but that can only be done if there is a strong foundation between the leads. And i don't think they have found that just yet.

I was hoping the British Government would be used better, but they only pop up if it's about crowning.

But the question indeed is: What is ETR2 actually about? Is it about a common girl becoming Queen, while the King acts like an crybaby from time to time? Or is it the King that needs a common girl to fix it all and see things straight again, while the King remains unaware?

Still in both cases FL looks more and too strong. No wonder RM is close to in love with Gayatri also!

So i am hoping for something extra for us viewers after this BRM s/l is over to explain what this pairing is about, if one might ask.

Sid had the answer for you..it is about the brilliance of Queen G who will single-handedly govern the state better then RNJ ever could...maybe they should send RNJ away to fight another war...or his car can go over the cliff and he can go MIA like Sulakshana did..

The show can then focus purely on how common girl turned Queen G's brilliance saves her sasuraal and her kingdom from one disaster after another...!

Whenever there is need for romance, Queen G can always fantasize about her missing husband..!

Why waste space on a nincompoop King who anyway doesn't do more than cry!

See why I had a problem with zillat and gullam words!! Dewanaa (in love not the one without brains/passionate lover) are ok they reflect intensity, but the former words are demeaning, I wouldn't want my husband to tell me the same not even to show me how much he loves me!

The strength, the intelligence, the charisma, the composure, the pride are always things that make the hero respected!

I loved the ranaji of the maha episode, when I was writing my previous post I remembered that the guy was really astute, the way he asked all the sewaks/sepahis to come and put their hands on the diyas, so that the one who still has the remainings of barod from the bomb can be disclosed by the barod catching fire!

And obviously he was a good human being at heart too, he preferred to stay with Gayatri who was coughing to check on her instead of following Saroj who he throwed a knife at by the way, good reflex!! he could have easily caught him!

I liked that Ranaji who had both the heart and brains working equally!

Najat...I am merely following Sid's lead here...laughing so the world doesn't see the anger or pain...

Actors are complete megalomaniacs...they love themselves more than anyone else...they need to...because it is their heart and soul that they are pouring into every character that they create...it must hurt as hell that a character that you put your heart and soul into bringing to life is reduced to a mockery of what it began as...you learn to take it in your stride...it is paapi pet ka sawaal after a while...but it does not cease to hurt...why do you think Sid is the first to poke fun at RNJ...even before anyone else can?

Try as hard as I will, I simply cannot digest the fact that he gave away the crown to KC...that he, for even a minute, did not think to investigate the glaring gaps in BRM's explanations etc...it is like the creatives don't give a damn what RNJ thinks or wants...it is only about proving G to be this super sleuth who will die to save her husband...who is an idiot anyway!

I am tired of ranting actually!

P.S - My idiot heart is still hoping for a logical explanation for this mockery...none will probably be forthcoming but I can't stop myself from hoping..!

@ Bold 1 same here, here is my reply to another post

Sid is lovely and the way he portrays Ranaji in such a royal classy manner, made it difficult for me to see Ranaji as dumb even when they try do dumb him down, he is so charming! Ranaji is really a charming man, So far I found explanation to all what he did to some extent (went on analyzing him pyschologically and all 😆), my only problem is that scene where he handed the throne to Kunwar Chacha, he knows his chacha very well, he knows Chacha is no good for praja, or was Ranaji so low, so defeated with the death of Gayatri that he felt that he couldn't even be a good husband so how can he be a good king!! but still why to Kunwar Chacha, I know he is the next in the line for the throne, but how come his pain made him stop thinking!!!, or was he considering himself worst than Chacha, still he could have handed things to someone who wouldn't work in cahoots with britishers and rob people, I really didn't understand that part, it didn't make sense to me!

@ Bold 2 & 3 another reply where I tried to be positive and wanted just to see more of Ranaji

You know what, let the positivity spead better, I want to see more episodes first, I want them to finish the track first which I guess will happen in monday, and see Ranaji's reactions, reflexion on all what happened to him lately then I can say!

I think I'm being too harsh with the last happenings and the sidelining of Ranaji! more focus on him will help me

waise I liked the episode today, though not knowing all the details I want to, it was a classy episode, visually beautiful, and I liked the acting, though BRM looked funny to me be honest, she has gone crazy in her quest for power!

How I wish that masquerade ball was for Ranaji and Gayatri, they dance with dim lights! masks on!! something classy, mysterious yet romantic!

Agree...Sid brings a depth, sincerity and gravitas to RNJ that makes it tough to dismiss him...

It is probably because of Sid that RNJ, despite the best efforts of the writers, retains his individuality and his personality and has not been completely beta-fied...!

I had a problem and was worried about this sort of track since they showed Gayu sitting on the throne while RNJ stands in attendance montage.😆

I think I even posted about my apprehensions in one of the earlier threads.

I liked the way Ranaji was walking in that royal (but sad) way when leaving, yaar the guests had eyes only for him 😆 I agree Sid's portrayal and the way he carries himself as Ranaji has a lot to do with it! I can't see him as dumb he has so much class and charisma!

I liked him in the episode, his expressions and looks, though I still don't know the details of what he knows but I know he must be aware of the truth only since the moment Rajmata told him!!
