Pakhi was angrier than ever. The last 2 months had been hell for her. Raghav had not talked to her since the day they had discussed divorce.

The next day he had come home with so much anger and frustration in his face that she had not had the guts to confront him again. She had found out from Ramu, the peon that Kalpi had been there in the office that day. She realized maybe Kalpi had broken off with Raghav and she had felt satisfied and thought that she finally had a chance at making the relationship with Raghav work.

But nothing had worked according to her plans. Raghav had totally ignored her. He never initiated any conversation with her and whenever she tried to talking to him, he would walk off as if she did not exist.

He would spend almost all the waking hours in office and even if he was home he would closet himself inside his room. Pakhi had once tried going into the room and had found it locked. She could not believe he would do such a thing.

In the initial days she had tried waiting up for him at night in the most revealing of night wear, but when she opened the door he would just walk off as if she was invisible. She had felt gravely insulted and she stopped waiting for him altogether.

She then decided to ignore him completely and started going out with her friends. Her friends asked her many times, why Raghav was not with her and she always made excuses. She was almost sure now that her friends realized that their relationship was not working. The other thing that irritated her most when she went out with her friends was that guys hit on her friends but royally ignored her. It was as if being married had made her invisible to guys. She who was used to being the center of attention, was suddenly relegated to sidelines and she did not like it one bit.

The last straw was when 2 weeks back Raghav left for USA without informing her. It was her irritating mother-in-law Gauri who had gloatingly informed her that he had already left for US and she was also going to join him there after 2 days.

Being alone in the house with nothing to do was really wrecking havoc on her nerves. She called Kamla Maa and asked her to come to her house and stay with her during that time, but she said Vitthal would not allow her to do so. Anyway she had found that Kamla Maa's speeches about trying to work things out with Raghav had started irritating her. Also Kamla Maa had started talking a great deal about Kalpana becoming a Manager somewhere and how she was doing so well. She tuned out most of such talks, but some days they just got to her.

Today morning Raghav had come back from USA, but Gauri was not with him. He was sitting at the dining table and seeing him Pakhi thought, he just looks so handsome; no wonder I still want this relationship to work.

Pakhi went and sat next to him, but Raghav who was engrossed in reading the business section of the newspaper did not even look up. Suddenly Pakhi remembered the good old days, when her dad or her brother would come back from abroad laden with presents for her and she suddenly felt sad. Here Raghav was not even looking at her, even though they had not seen each other for a fortnight.

"How are you, Raghav? How was your trip to USA? You know I love USA, New York and LA are my favourite places to shop", she started. Raghav looked up and said, "Pakhi, I do not want to talk to you. If you want to stay in this house, you can, but you mean nothing to me. We will be living like two strangers, but never like husband and wife. So just leave me alone. If you want to continue this sham of a marriage, don't expect me to participate in it."

Pakhi got absolutely livid hearing this and she grabbed the newspaper lying in front of him and angrily opened the tabloid section. Her already heightened anger just reached the boiling point when she saw the smiling face of Kalpi plastered in the Page 3 of the newspaper.

Malhotra industries had purchased 4 entire pages in the newspaper for publicizing the launch and there were more than 50 images of the party printed on them.

The first picture she saw was the one where Kalpi was smiling at Nick. The photographer had captured them at the exact moment when Kalpana had answered back Nick's comment about beautiful woman. Both of them were smiling at each other and to an unknown bystander it would look like they were enjoying each other's company. Pakhi could not believe her eyes, she just remembered how just last week she and her friends had drooled over Nick at the movies. Pakhi was already a big fan of him since his TV days, but watching that good-looking hunk on the big screen was something else. And now here he was with Kalpi looking at her as if he wanted to eat her up. Though she hated Kalpi with all her heart, she could not but admit that she looked gorgeous. Her makeup and dress was flawless.

She scanned the page and saw two more pictures of Kalpi. In one she was with the latest Bollywood heartthrob and a few other Hindi movie stars. The last picture she saw was of Kalpi with Vihaan Malhotra and his parents. She remembered how she had been introduced to Vihaan a couple of years back in New York and she had tried flirting with him. At that time, Vihaan had been polite, but totally disinterested in her and one of her friends had informed her that he was dating a Victoria's Secret lingerie model. Now looking at this picture of Kalpi and Vihaan just got her all riled up, because he was looking at her with so much affection.

She went through the write-up in the paper and all the lavish praises that were being bestowed on the product and the launch made her anger shoot through the roof. The person who she wanted to hurt most Kalpi was not there, so she did the next best thing and hurt Raghav.

"You don't want to talk to me, Raghav, but the person who you want to talk to, has moved on to greener pastures. She your girlfriend or was she your wife, has started scouting for new husbands. Look at her seducing all these guys with her revealing clothes and her innocent face. She makes me sick with her goody-goody act," she said and pushed the newspaper towards Raghav and pointed to Kalpi's pictures.

Raghav looked at the pictures and felt a sudden desire and longing sweep over his entire being. He looked at her picture and felt an intense sense of loss. She had been his and he had lost her by his own stupidity. He thought, he could have been the one escorting her to such parties and loudly proclaiming that this beauty belonged to him. He could have been the one everyone envied. God and Kalpi both had given him so many chances, but he had never been able to capitalize on them. He hated himself for having lost the most precious thing he ever had in his life. His eyes suddenly filled with tears and he walked off from there taking the newspaper with him.

Pakhi who had expected him to be angry, was too stunned by his reaction. She went into her room and angrily started throwing things around. She sat on the bed and compared her life to Kalpi's life and for the first time found her own life totally wanting. Kalpi had gone ahead and achieved professional success and happiness, while she did not have anything. She did not have a husband, nor did she have a family or career. All the friends she had were totally selfish snobs. She finally broke down and cried with no one there to comfort her.
