Chapter 3

Raghav was speechless as he entered his own house. Was he dreaming or was the same beautiful stranger, whom he had seen earlier in the morning, sitting in the living room talking to his mother? Moreover, Oscar, his one year old American Eskimo dog, was sitting affectionately at her feet. He watched with the goofiest smile on his face as she picked up Oscar and began stroking his fur gently. There was something magical in the way she smiled and laughed that Raghav just couldn't look away.

It seemed like eternity before Gauri Singhania noticed her son standing at the entrance of the house. "Raghav? Tum kab aaye beta? Aur udhar kyun khade ho, aao main tumhe kisi se milvati hoon"- his mother said indicating him to join her and their guest. Both the ladies stood up as Raghav made his way towards them smiling.

"Hi, I'm Kalpana."- the beautiful stranger said extending her hand. "Hi, I'm Raghav."- he replied returning the gesture. As their fingers touched, Raghav felt a shiver run through him. He quickly withdrew his hand, feeling a little embarrassed.

It took a few seconds before Kalpana realized who Raghav actually was. While glancing at Gauri, she wondered why Gauri hadn't mentioned that she was the mother of the Raghav Singhania, famous cricketer and vice captain of the Indian cricket team. Changes in Kalpana's facial expressions didn't go unnoticed by both Raghav and Gauri. "Oh... You're... You... The Raghav Singhania!"- Kalpana stammered.

A flash of irritation crossed Raghav's face. He detested it when people started behaving all weird once they realized who he was. He was human after all, someone who wanted to live his life just like any ordinary person. He played cricket because of his love for the sport, not because of the unwanted fame that came along with it.

Sensing her son's irritation, Gauri quickly intervened saying, "Kalpana is new in the building. Woh abhi shift hui hai Pune se. So I thought I'd invite her to dinner as a welcome gesture." She smiled at Kalpana before continuing," Why don't you go freshen up before joining us for dinner?" Raghav was more than happy to oblige and quickly excused himself.

Kalpana was sitting alone at the dining table when Raghav returned. Sensing his presence, Kalpana looked up at him and smiled. "I'm sorry about earlier. I guess I was caught a little off guard."- she said looking apologetic. "Plus, it's not every day that one gets to meet a famous sportsperson!"- she added winking.

Laughing, Raghav sat down opposite Kalpana. "Friends?"- he said extending his hand. "Itni jaldi kya hai? Thoda intezaar karo, dosti bhi ho jayegi..."- Kalpana replied teasingly.

Watching the two of them chatting away from the kitchen, Gauri smiled to herself, extremely pleased with the way things were turning out...
