CHAPTER 17: THE RESULTS

Kamla returned to chawl but the seminar was over. Kalpi was waiting to have dinner when Pakhi also joined her. Pakhi told how Raghav refused to meet them. Kalpi became furious on learning that Pakhi forced Kamla to go with her and was even accusing Raghav infront of her "Maine tujhe mana kiya than a aayi ko vahan le jaane se. aur apni galati ka ilzaam doosron par mat laga Pakhi. Tu gayi thi bina appointment ke aur dosh Raghav ko de rahi hai." Kamla asked both of them to stop fighting and asked Pakhi to leave as it was getting late. Pakhi obliged and went back home.

Next day was indeed a big day. It was the day of final semester results. Kalpi and Pakhi went to college. Pakhi screamed in excitement "Main first aayi hoon." Kalpi was shocked "Pakhi first. Toh phir mera result kya hai?". She went ahead to check her name on the list but it was not there. One of the students from the crowd said that the list consists the name of only those students who have passed the exams. Kalpi felt like the sky fell on her head. She went to the dean but he too said that she failed. She was shattered and was absent mindedly walking towards the edge of the building roof. Pakhi came in the nick of time and saved her from falling "Kahan dhyan hai tera Kalpi. Kuch ho jata toh." Kalpi stared blankly at her and left from there. Pakhi stood there looking at her retreating back and felt like crying looking at her condition.

Here Neetu received a phone call and said "Bohot acche aapko aapke paise mil jayenge." She disconnected the call and said "Ab dekhti hoon Kalpi kaise memsaab banti hai. Bai ki beti hai bai hi banegi." Pakhi came home and was very much tensed for Kalpi. While in the chawl everyone was waiting for Kalpi. Kamla called Pakhi but she did not pick it up thinking "Zaroor Kalpi ke bare mein hi poochne ke liye phone kiya hoga. Nahi jab tak Kalpi khud nahi bata deti main unse baat nahi kar sakti." Here Kamla was feeling restless and went to meet Pakhi. There she got to know that Pakhi stood first and blessed Pakhi. While Neetu disclosed the fact of Kalpi's failure. Kamla was shocked. She looked at Pakhi and understood why she didn't pick her calls. She left from there immediately. Pakhi reprimanded Neetu for telling Kalpi's result to Kamla "Kya zaroorat thi aapko Kalpi ka result Kamla maa ko batane ki? Aur aap mere liye party throw karna chahti hain? Great!!! Kal tak jab aapka beta frustration mein alcoholic ban raha tha tab aapne mujhe blame kiya aur aaj mere liye party. Kyun show off karne ke liye. Aap enjoy karna party main nahi aa rahi." Neetu stood still but was happy that now Kalpi cannot become memsaab. Little did she know what a blunder she has done by playing with Kalpi's results and future. And this time no one can save her.

Sammy was in office all day doing his work along with Raghav's. He gritted his teeth in frustration "Kya yaar. Pata nahi aaj iss Raghav ko kya ho gaya. Itni saari meetings aur sab mujh akele ke upar chod diya iss gadhe ne. Koi baat nahi har gadhe ka din aata hai, tera bhi aayega. Chun chunke badla loonga tujhse. Ab bas dekhta jaa main kaise tere gaal sharam ke maarey laal karta hoon." He laughed at his own thought. How much ever he would try to irritate and tease Raghav, the fact that he loved his god gifted brother did not change at all.Here Raghav was pacing up and down from morning. He didn't even go to his office and poor Sammy had to handle everything on his own. His mind had only one thought "Kalpi fail??? No ways there has to be some mistake. Kalpi fail nahi ho sakti. Par chawl ki problem bhi toh thi. Lekin Kalpi fail nahi ho sakti. Kalpi toh ghar bhi nahi gayi hogi. Kahan hogi vo?? Haan shayad vahin hogi. Jaakar dekhta hoon." He was about to take his car keys when he changed his mind.

CHAPTER 18: PRINCE COMES ON CYCLE

It's 7 pm

Kalpi has yet not reached her house. All the chawl prople are worried and Pakya is out in search of Kalpi. Pakya is searching every possible places but fails to get any information regarding Kalpi. He starts his way back home praying for Kalpi's safety "Deva main jaanta hoon ki meri Kalpi kamzor nahi hai. Lekin phir bhi deva tu uske saath rehena uski madat karna. Usey himmat dena deva. Meri choti si Kalpi ko sahi salaamat ghar vapas bhej de deva." He went back home with a low face which made Kamla and Vitthal more worried.

A girl is sitting on a garden bench with a sulken face dipicting pure hurt and pain. Her eyes a swollen and tears have dried long back while she is continuously staring into nothing. Her mind is occupied with the only thoughts about her parent's dream "Ab main kaise unka sapna poora karungi? Main fail nahi ho sakti. Kalpana jadav fail nahi ho sakti...nahi kabhi nahi.." Kalpi was fully engrossed with her thoughts and did not have the courage to face her family. Here Raghav came riding on his bike exactly where Kalpi was sitting busy staring into pretty nothing. Just one look at her face and his eyes were already getting teary "Come on Raghav tu usey yahan motivate karne aaya hai ya phir usey dekh kar rone ke liye... ghar jaa ke ro lena ..abhi ke liye uske paas jaa aur ussey baatein kar aur tedhe tarike se usey apne liye ladne ko bol..jaa Raghav jaa. Main yahan Kalpi ko motivate kane aaya tha par lagta hai ab khud ko hi motivate kar raha hoon." Listening to his inner voice Raghav rang his cycle bell for Kalpi's attention.

Kalpi looked up much to her irritation and saw the person least expected at this situation. Raghav noticed her sulken eyes and at once his heart went out to her. Raghav got off his cycle and said "Thank god ...tum safe ho." He walked towards the bench and got himself seated beside Kalpi. Kalpi was surprised to see him there at this hour "Aap iss waqt yahan kya kar rahe hain?" Raghav thought for a while and said "Kyun iss waqt sirf tum yahan ho sakti ho?" Kalpi was too depresses to react and thus decided to leave the place. As she was about to get up from her seat Raghav's words made her stop "Kya hua? Iss bench par do logon ke baithne ki jagah hai." Kalpi turned towards him but stood upto leave. Raghav knew the exact words to get back the real Kalpana out "Kya hua haar maan gayi? Khud se apne family se door jaane ka faisla kar liya na tumne?" Kalpi turned around confused but his next words shocked her. "Mujhe nahi pata tha ki yeh bench sirf failures ke liye hai. Fail ho gayi na tum." Kalpi widened her eyes in disbelief and asked "Aap ko kaise pata.." Raghav smirked seeing the look on her face and said "Ab kya karoon? Jinpe nazar hoti hai unki information toh nikalni hi padti hai na. Aur waise bhi tum jaisi kamzor ladki yahan bench par akele baithne ke ilawa aur kar bhi kya sakti hai..." Kalpi yet again turned to leave only to be stopped by Raghav "Kya hua? Meri information confirm nahi karogi? Hmmm... aur ab kahan jaa rahi ho?? Suicide karne??? Nahi aksar log aise situation mein aisa hi kartey hain?" Kalpi looked at him in disbelief. Here she thought she would spend some time alone and this Raghav is leaving no stone unturned to grill her "Sir. Aapko aadat hogi aapse darke chup rehene waale logon ki lekin mujhe na toh aapse dar lagta hai aur na aapke tanz se." Raghav looked at her in awe. Even in this kind of a situation she did not fail to strike back at him. Raghav smirked thinking his plan was kind of working. He walked up to her with full attitude and said "Himmat toh bohot hai tumme. Sadak pe char ladko ko jawab dene ki himmat, interview mein ultey jawab dene ki himmat, interview se uth ke jaane ki himmath, yahan se uth ke jaane ki himmath aur yahan se uth ke kahin aur akele jaake baithne ki himmath. Vaise interview mein toh tum..." He could not complete his sentence as Kalpi cut him off "Usey aap interview kehetey hain. Mujhe toh laga ki aapko bas ek padhi likhi coffee banane waali chahiye." Raghav looked at her and was happy thinking that the sherni is back "So toh hai. Lekin afsos ab toh tum padhi likhi bhi nahi kehelaogi." Kalpi was tolerating his crap for long and decided to ask him to come the point "Accha toh batayiye sir kya hai aapke liye mere maine?" Raghav looked at her and said "Itne ki tum Graduation fail ho..." Kalpi was at a loss of words. He got back to his cycle and said "Sach tumne toh meri samajh ke mainey hi badal diye. Main samajhta tha ki tum akdoo ho, bhagodi nahi." That is when reality struck her. She was actually running away. She turned to thank Raghav but he vanished like he never existed there "Kahan chale gaye??? Arey abhi toh yahin the. Koi baat nahi agli baar jab bhi milenge main unhe thank you zaroor kahoongi. Par abhi mujhe ghar jaakar pehele aai baba ko sab batana hoga. Main fail nahi ho sakti." She went towards her home oblivious to the fact that a pair of eyes watched her each and every move and even heard what all she said.

Raghav could not leave Kalpi alone out there before she made up her mind to heed back home. Thus he went behind some bushes and hid himself "Main tumhe kabhi tootne nahi doonga Kalpi. Main humesha tumhare saath hoon. Tumhe itna mazboot bana doonga ki duniya tumhe choo bhi na sake." He heard everything Kalpi said and smiled "Yeh ladki bhi na. Thanks bolne ke liye mari jaa rahi hai. Chalo kamse kam ab yeh ghar toh jayegi. Par iski thanks bolne waali aadat kabhi nahi jaayegi. Meri pyari si befizool ki ziddi. Ek second...phir se meri...arey yaar yeh ladki mujhe pagal degi. Hamesha apni man maani karti hai. Aaj toh cycle chalva rahi hai pata nahi aur kya kya karvaigi." With that he goes back home obviously on his CYCLE.

Kalpi went home and told everything about her results. Vithal and Kamla had full faith on her. Pakya returned and found Kalpi sitting on the couch with a dull face. He ran upto her and gave a bone crushing hug saying "Tu kahan thi Kalpi? Tujhe pata hai maine tujhe har jaghah dhoondha tu nahi mili main bohot ghabra gaya tha. Arey ek result ke liye koi aise gayab hota hai kya. Tu toh sherni hai tu kaise dar skati hai." Kalpi cried in his chest and said "Sorry dada. Promise aaj ke baad aisa phir kabhi nahi karoongi." Vitthal and Kamla smiled lookin at the brother sister bonding. How much ever they fought like cats and dogs and beat the hell out of the other. The fact remains unchaged that their fights are a way of showing their love towards each other. While in Bandra two boys were fighting over a silly photograph. Well it was not just a photograph. It was Raghav and Kalpi's childhood photograph where Raghav was in Kalpi's house before leaving for America. Raghav was running behind Sammy threatening him to return the photograph back "Sammy photo vapas kar. Dekh main bol raha hoon agar tu mere haath laga naa toh chodunga nahi." Sammy was running around the house like a mad man saying "Aa aa pakad ke dikha. Photo chahiye?? Kyun?? Aisa kya hai iss photo mein?? Sirf Kalpana aur tu hi toh hai. Aur dono ek doosre ki taraf muskuraatey hue dekh rahe ho." saying as innocently as possible. Raghav stopped and said "Kya yaar Sammy dena photo. Dena ...arey dena yaar." Sammy looked at him and said "Please word suna hai kabhi zindagi mein. Chal please bol..please Sammy photo dena. Aur haan pyar se bolna varna photo nahi doonga apne paas rakh loonga." Raghav gritted his theet and said as lovingly as possible "Please Sammy photo dena...pleeeaaase." Sammy smiled mischieviously while Raghav gulped seeing the look on his face "De doonga. Par pehele yeh bata tu cycle kyun chalane gaya tha? Nahi I mean kisse milne gaya tha C...Y...C...L...E.. pe?" Raghav flushed and said "Cycle exercise karne ke liye chalane gaya tha. Ab de photo." Sammy knew he was lying and sang "Jhooth bole kaua katey...kaaley kauey se dariyo." Just then Sammy got a call and Raghav got an opportunity to take away the photograph. He tiptoed behind Sammy and snatched the photograph from his hand. Sammy was surprised and turns around only to find Raghav doing a victory dance with the photograph in his hand. He sighed looking at him and smiled looking at the photograph. "Man!!! they look perfect together." Raghav looked at him andsmirked victoriously. He went back to his room and placed the photograph in a box safely. This was not new. Whenever Sammy found out that Raghav met Kalpi he would either tease Raghav for it or take the photograph of child Kalpi and Raghav and run around like he was on fire with Raghav chasing him to kill him.

Next morning Kalpi goes to meet the professor and finds out that her suppliments were missing. She pleaded the professor to recheck the paper. The professor asked for 20,000 rupees for rechecking the papers. Kalpi was shocked. On the other hand Raghav asked Sammy to prepare an appointment letter in the name od Pakhi Kapoor. Sammy was shocked "Yaar mujhe samajh nahi aa raha ki tu Pakhi ko kyun naukri pe rakhna chahta hai. Kabhi kabhi toh mujhe aisa lagta hai ki tujh jaise smart aur intelligent aadmi ke saath mujh jaisa bevakoof kahan phas gaya. Ab kripa karke batayega ki tu kya soch raha hai." Raghav smiled at his antics and asked him to take a seat "Peheli baat. Don't under estimate yourself Sammy. Tu yahan apne intelligence ki wajah se hai samjha. Ab doosri baat. Pakhi apne family members ki tarah nahi hai vo yahan kaam kyun nahi karegi." Sammy looked at him unconvinced and asked "Aur Kalpana. Uska bhi toh naam shortlist hua tha na." Raghav looked at him and said "Candidates ka naam ek condition pe hua tha. Unke exams ke results. Aur Kalpana Jadav fail ho chuki hai. Aur koi shikayat ya sawaal mujhse?" Sammy saw the look of hurt in his eyes but remained quite "Ok. Main Pakhi ka appointment letter tayiyar karta hoon." He went out of the cabin while Raghav was engrossed in deep thinking and obviously it was Kalpi dancing in his mind "Yeh ladki raat ko sapne mein aakar toh sone deti nahi hai aur ab din mein bhi khayalon mein naach rahi hai...uff." With that he went back to his work unaware of Kalpi's new born troubles.
