Enemy In Laws
Mrs Neetu Kapoor paced in her room. The scenes of the party were still flashing in her mind. The girl she detested all her life was going to be her daughter in law. Her high class, that she always flaunted off was no more high, now a bai ki beti will be part of it. She kept on thinking of ways to justify her son's catastrophic actions.
She saw Prem and Sahil coming in. Strange! Father - son seemed so cool about everything. They were talking something serious. They headed to study rather than to living room. Mrs. Kapoor felt cheated. What was it now that this father son duo was planning and she the lady of the house had no idea.
She barged into the study fuming at Prem .
Prem was taken aback. 'Mom!! Are u all right ', he exclaimed.
'All Right!! How I can be? Now you bring that junior Kamla as my Bahu and u expect me to be normal ! ' Mrs Kapoor wanted to bang Prem on head. But she controlled herself realising he was no more a kid she knew.
Sahil Kapoor intertwined.' Cool down Neetu. U don't know the whole story. First hear us then react.'
And so father son explained the plan and reason why they decided to have Kalpi as their daughter in law.
Neetu was shocked to hear what Sahil and Prem told.
'That bai ki beti has become so smart .R u two out of your minds. You say, she has heart of that Raghav Singhania . So to control him you decided to get on Kalpi and that girl asked that Chawl and Marble Factory in return! Does not Bahu bring dowry. Here it's just opposite! '
Sahil knew Neetu was thick headed when it came to business. Still he knew he needed to explain to convince her and make way for Kalpi .
'Well that Chawl is not ours anyways. Plus that marble factory is already in losses. I was about to close it anyway. So when that fool asked me I readily agreed. I was not even getting buyer for that factory. So basically, the deal is a free deal for us Neetu and in return we have parrot with Raghav Singhania's life in it . Our daughter will be happy to have her love, we will get a life time business partner. explained Sahil as he cynically added and u will get a bahu to bully !!'
'Bahu to bully,' commented Neetu. That Kalpi is not at all simple as u father and son r thinking. She surely has plans to torture and avenge me. I have always seen fire in her eyes '.
'Fire or ice! I don't know. All I know is that we need Kalpi to get straight with Raghav. So you better prepare to have your daughter in law', stated Sahill making a closure to the argument and reclined in his arm chair.
Prem smiled in himself. He knew his mother will surely make fuss out of it. But his father handled the matter quit smartly.
He still remembered how he approached Kalpi that night of engagement. When he saw his sister Paki dressed up for her engagement he knew somewhere Kalpi must be sitting weeping her silent tears. He had found her sitting heartbroken on the bench near the street lamp. . Her permanent place to sulk, brood and study . Kalpi had accepted his deal out of revenge to Raghav Sighania and it mattered a lot to him. Now she was his weapon against Raghav Sighania . If he had his sister then he had his love. The game surely would be interesting now.

Kamla bai had no words . She knew not how to explain and convince her husband Vitthal about the decision their daughter made . Jadhav hated Kapoors . For him they were nothing more than blood suckers .He had lost his job because of them and he never liked her working at their house as maid.
But the fact that remained the ugly truth was that their kids Kalpi and Pakya grew up well only because she had a maid's job at Kapoors and now their daughter decided to marry in the same family. She still remembered how proudly Prem Kapoor held hands of her daughter Kalpi and how her daughter looked like princess in the party. For the first time Paki baby looked average while her daughter looked princess. She had never dreamed her daughter to be married in a high class family like Kapoors. All she dreamed was her daughter becoming successful on her own.
Kamla realised, she has lost her daughter . How could she not read her mind. How come Kalpi took such big decision without consulting her. Kalpi was never like this before. Somehow deep within Kamla realised Kalpi was doing it with a plan rather than heart. The new found glow on Kalpi and her stern confidence terrified Kamla.
The whole Chawl was in chaos. People were talking about how Kalpi made it big. Some called her gold digger while some called her lucky but nobody called her worth it. Suddenly Kapoors were the heroes who accepted daughter of lowly maid. How come nobody talked how educated her daughter was and did deserve a good life.
People ! she sighed. Whatsoever hard work she may do whatsoever high degree her daughter may have. Her Kalpi will always be a daughter of a lowly maid. Kamla cried at the irony. She immediately wiped her tears as she heard footsteps of Jadhav. He had learned the news from Chawl people and was out of words. He looked at Kamla and her red eyes full of tears spoke everything . His eyes further searched for Kalpi
'She is out with Pakya', replied Kamla
'Humm sighed Vitthal So that blood sucker is going to be my samdhi (in law)'
Kamla spoke nothing .
Kalpi and Pakya came back . Pakya realised the serious air and decided to take some fresh air outside.
Kalpi could see her quit parents demanding an explanation.
'It's ok. If u don't want me to marry Prem I won't. But then never ask me to marry forever. ',Was her reply.
'A lot . I have a lot in my mind. Ayi baba . I know u both r not happy and neither is society who r busy tagging me a gold digger. But I don't care for them anymore. I have studied. I have a job and I am much a better person you both wanted me to be. But there is something I want to do for myself. So pleas Ayi baba let me do it. I promise I won't let you both down.'
Kamla and Vitthal looked at each other and then at their daughter. She still spoke the same, truth and clear just like she did as a child.
'I know my Kalpi won't put me down', said Vittha. His throat was heavy with emotions. 'But Kalpi why Prem, why not somebody else.'
Kalpi tightly held hands to her father. She knew he was shaking.
'Baba I know he is one of those blood suckers. But don't worry you have a strong daughter. Did not u always say that I can change tides. So Baba don't worry I will change that blood sucker family for good'. She smiled to make her last words feel like joke and Jaaghav smiled too. He was not convinced but could not stop smiling at the confidence of his Kalpi.

It was her last day at Sighanai Office. Kalpi cleared desk and packed her things in her carton. Her phone and cell phone kept ringing wishing her for her engagement. She had been congratulated by all. She had about twenty missed calls from Raghav Singhania too whose calls she never picked. But she still needed to go into his office to hand over her resignation. Sammy had already rejected it and asked her to handover to Raghav herself.
'Why don't u just face him, when it's all over between u two' , was his answer when she had said she does not want to see him.
He was right. Why was she avoiding him when she had nothing to do with him? She decided to make it sclear and walked towards Raghav' office. It was going to be their last meeting as a boss and employee now. Strange, her heart raced fast as she neared his office. Her hands shacked while twisting the knob of his door. She took a deep breath and entered his office. The light was dim inside. She observed blinds were closed too and there he stood looking direct at her. Her heart thumped even faster and she felt like lump in her throat. She was surprised why her body was reproaching her. Was not all finished between them? Was not he the most hateful person in the world. Was not he.. ..her train of thoughts were broken by his flash of smile.
'Congratulations Miss Jadahv or should I start practicing Mrs Kapoor.'
Ah ! She marked the taunt in his words and suddenly her heart was normal and her thoughts straight. Yes surely he was worst man in the world and her decision was right.
'Thank u and yes please keep practicing Mrs Kapoor. It sounds really sweet to me',she replied back with a very calm smile and placed her resignation letter on desk.
'Our relationship status is really curious. U r going to be my sister in law. Right !'
Kalpi nodded, fully understanding his sarcasm and avoiding any further arguments.
Raghav observed Kalpi and then smiled. 'That's really a fun, u have learned so much from me ', he stated picking up the letter.
'Yes, I have learned a lot. After all u r my Mentor.' Her last word was specially emphasised.
' R u complaining ??'
'Ah not at all Mr. Sighania . it was a pleasure to learn.'
'Was it really Kalpi'
It had been long since Raghav ever called her Kalpi and his voice had changed when he said her name. Kalpi was startled momentarily and stared in his eyes trying to fathom what he meant and realised he had already come too near . She tried to back but felt herself grabbed.
She instantly moved her eyes away before they revealed her inner turmoil. But her body failed her again. His nearness made her feel weak in knees just like always. She was embarrassed for being clingy.
'U still love me don't u ', .His husky voiced alarmed Kalpi though he tried his best maintain his composer.
'Does it really matter?' , lashed Kalpi trying to stand her ground. Being angry was her only way to avoid being weak.
'No it does not ', came his cold reply and released her . He walked behind his desk and reclined in his chair.
'He started 'I never wanted to drag u into this, that's why ..' but he could not complete.
'Stop justifying yourself Mr. Sighania . I am not here to hear your life story. I have my own story too and I bet it is as interesting as yours. Anyway, Congratulations. I wish u a happy life.'
Kalpi had enough and she was done. She turned to leave and accidently tangled her legs in the chair and came crashing down. She quickly stood up but fell again this time on Raghav and was held quit tightly for few moments making her suffocate.
Realising her discomfort Raghav let her sit on Sofa and added cynically again. 'Seems like u did not wish me by heart...Mrs Kapoor.'
'Same goes for you ...Mr. Singhania ', taunted Kalpi . Luckily she did not injure much but was bewliderd . She realised Raghv was seated too near again! She tried to stand but he pulled her nearer. Close enough to hear his breath and smell his skin.
'Don't be a rebellion Kalpi . Just stay near me. I need you.'
Kalpi was overwehlmed by his nearness and fought to control her tears
'I needed u too Raghav . But u drifted so far. We r too apart to come together now ', Kalpi jerked his hands and decided to run before he charmed her again.
She cried frantically as she ran through the corridors. Her body felt numb ,her senses were jammed . Still she ran and ran. She ran till she was out of Singhania Building. She hoped it was over forever now.
She had set her new life goals and Raghav Singhania had no place in it. The way to her new goals went through dark corridors of Kapoors now. Life was going to a hell. She won't have anybody to hold on. Her Mentor won't be there too. Perhaps it served her well. She payed the price. Price for falling for her Mentor.
But she would remember it all. Now it was time to apply all that she learned .
