Hey Guys,
I have started a new series 😊This Story is about Viraat and Maanvi (ek hazaroon mein meri behna hai). Their reel characters in the serial has nothing in similar with my fiction character, some bits might be😃. I live in the UK so I know I have got the geography wrong for Canada and America so try to believe it 😆. Let me know if you like it and if I should continue

What was this feeling? Untold strong emotions. His piercing glance at her kept her heart beating faster. His arm brushing up against her stopped her breath. In a crowded room, their eyes searched for eachother. Her dark brown eyes with a hint of gray light up when their eyes met. His smirk kept her pulse racing. She lowered her eyes shyly. There were always enough distractions to keep them away from eachother as she took in her surroudings. Large crowd of her family friends and family. Each of them in a deep conversation. The women gossiped while the men laughed loudly, holding a whisky glass in their hand. He walked towards her, marching up to stand in front of her. His uncertain smile defined his strong stubble jawline. They always acted like strangers when they spoke. He looked down to his shoes, she followed his gaze to look at where he was looking. His head snapped up as he spoke.

' Hello, How have you been?' He spoke with a wide grin, after practicing his initial conversation earlier.

'Hey, I have been good thanks, what about you?' She spoke softly, adjusting the creases on her navy blue dress.

'Good, it's a treat being here' emphasizing on the word 'here', ' In the UK'. he carried on.

'How do you like it?' she asked politely.

'Yeh the trip has been good, I am going back tomorrow', he said disappointly, looking into her big brown eyes.

'Oh' her smile fainting. ' I am coming to Seattle next month', she answered full of enthusiasm

'Really?' His eyes light up followed by a wide smile, almost turning into a smug.

'Visiting my cousins' she answered, embarassed by the degree of enthusiasm she showed before. She lowered her eyes to stare at her nude heels.

'Well then... ' Her eyes met his and he stopped talking. She waited for him to finish his sentence. Her lips turned into a pout and she waited anxiously for his response. He was mesmerized. Lost in her face for a few seconds, he quickly snapped out of it when someone walked past him, pushing his hand in the front.

'Ahem' He pretended to cough. 'I could show you around' he spoke a little too fast. ' In Canada' he added. Waiting anxiously for her reaction. Trying to read her embarassed face which now turned into shock.

Shocked was the first expression on her face as she came to terms with what he was suggesting. Her mouth forming a slight o shape. She blinked her eyes rapidly, hiding any signs of happiness. She felt happy. Really happy. They hardly ever talked face to face. It was always done on the phone. They argued, flirted, gossiped and talked on the most random topics. Once they had an hour argument on the tortoise and the hare story. Viraat said the tortoise cheated and Maanvi said that he had offically lost his mind. They always made up though. They needed to talk to eachother every now and then. It was a necessity . They avoided talking to eachother for weeks but when they did, they spent hours reading between the lines.

'Oh' was all she could say. 'Don't you live in Vancouver?' she asked, confused but hoped he would still try to convince her.

'Yeh but Seattle isn't that far' he added, hoping she wasn't good in Geography.

'Ah ok, Yeh sure, It would be good to know someone there. I am meeting my cousins for the first time so It might be a little awkward', she added.

'Done then', his voice tone changed to a higher pitch as he smiled. 'I'll see you then'.

'Bye' she said with a wide grin.

He walked away. Happy to finally be able to talk to her without interruption or crowded gazes staring at them. 'She is awfully shy and quiet infront yet she never seems to shut up in her calls and mails', Viraat thought confused.

'So 3 hours isn't that far away' she thought, smiling to herself.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'I hate planes' she thought. Why do I have a phobia of heights. This completely ruins the thrill of travelling. The only thing I am looking forward to is the food. Ahh plane food, dreeeam' she thought dreamily.

Maanvi was a outspoken girl. She was the life of her house. Being the youngest one in her family did give her some advantages. She blabbed on for ages. She could almost get away with saying anything. She took advantage of the fact that her family forgave her instantly. She liked to see the good in everyone but was strict about staying away from the negativity in her life. She was a nice girl by heart. She was not short tempered but she held her anger for ages. Apreciating the little things in life. She hated seeing people in pain and appreciated how her life had turned out to be.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maanvi gulped as she took her window seat. ' I hate planes' she thought again as she closed her eyes tightly and waited for sleep to embrace her.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Welcome to Lucia Airport of Seattle. We hope you had a good journey'. The chirpy airhostess spoke through the microphone

'Good?! Haaa', Maanvi thought sarcastically.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Come on bag' she mummered while standing at the bagging area. She had been waiting for 10 minutes now. 'Baag' she whispered as soon as she saw her black suitcase arriving on the ever so slowly baggage system. She walked over to her bag and lifted it only for it to be pulled down by the weight.

'Do you need any help?', a tall, middle aged man asked with a broad smile. He was wearing a tight suit which showed his beer belly. With that he helped to pick up her suitcase and put it on her screeching trolley.

'Aww he looks like Boman Irani' Maanvi thought. Trailing back to reality she thanked the man politely and pushed her trolley down to the arrivals.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Your house is really nice', Maanvi spoke awkwardly, trying to break the ice with her American cousins. She hated not being loud when it came to meeting people first time. She was shy and was called reserved. 'Reserved', she thought, rubbishing the thought in her head. Her cousins seemed really nice. The eldest one, named Kreya was 21. A year older than Maanvi. She was studying interior designing in college. She was chatty and was trying to make Maanvi feel like home. Her youngest sister, Liya was 16. Rebellious and in a constant battle for privacy, Maanvi gathered since the 2 hours she has been here. Her youngest sibling Dhruv, was 14. He was a doll. Timid and friendly. He cheekily gave a smile whenever anyone asked him anything.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Maanvi, I hope you like this room. I am sorry you have to share it with me. I hope you don't mind', Kreya asked concerned.

'Ofcourse not Kreya, Your room is really nice. Thanks for letting me stay here', Maanvi answered back politely. Maanvi hated sharing rooms but since Kreya made the effort and was really nice, Maanvi didn't want to be too blatant with her. She was prepared to share a room and wasn't expecting a guest room in their house. She just hated sharing her room. 'Just for 2 weeks', she thought.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She woke up early next morning. Her eyes were closed but her hands searched lazly for her phone. On finding her phone, she opened her eyes and gazed blindly at her bright mobile screen. It was early morning. 4am. 'Jet lag' Maanvi thought as she rolled out of her bed.

As she came out of the toilet, freshly showered and wrapped in her purple towel. Her phone beeped. She walked over to her bed and picked up her white phone.

Viraat

Hey Manvi, Your flight was yesterday right? How is it going in Seattle? Do you wanna meet up tomorrow?

Her eyes grew bigger in suprise. 'He was actually genuine about this', she thought as she quickly started typing up her text.

Viraaat :) Yeh it's going good, jet lagged and all. Yeh that will be great!

'Uhm, too keen' Maanvi thought and saved the message she was about to send in her drafts. After an hour she sent the message to Viraat.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'It takes her an hour to reply', Viraat mummered as he saw her text. Well atleast she is agreeing to come out. He thought positively.

Good, send me your adress, I will pick you up 11ish?

Maanvi

394 Olden Street, Ohett, Seattle. Sure that'll be fine.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'What shall I wear?', she mummered quietly. ' Ahh I have no clothes' she said, speaking to herself. After an hour of deliberation of how fat and how eager each of her clothing will make her look, she finally decided on her republic faded denim short and a baggy off the shoulder white top. 'My river island brown gladiators, ahh perfect', she thought. She rushed into the bathroom, shaved and exfoliated her legs. After rinsing her hair twice and satisfied with her , cleanliness, she came out of the bathroom and wore her clothes. She applied her natural makeup, focusing on her eyes. Eyeliner, Mascara and brown eyeshadow with a pink natural lipstick. Highlighting her skin and adding coral blush to her cheeks, she was ready.

'What do we have to go through to look awake' she thought as she scanned her appearance last time and walked out of the house. It was 11:10 and Viraat finally gave in to calling her.

Maanvi heard her phone beeping and saw the caller i.d in front of her. Sitting in a black SUV, her heart beat accelerated as she realized what situation she got herself in. ' I will actually need to talk to him'. He realized she was there and hung up the phone. ' He looks fit', Maanvi thought as she walked up to the SUV. checkered button up shirt with faded denim jeans. Omydays, those are some clean trainers', she looked onto his white sneakers as he stepped out of the car.

'Hey', he said casually standing by his door.

' She looks pretty cute' he thought and 'hot' he added onto his thoughts. His mind scanned her face as his subconscious thought provoked him to stand closer to her.

'Hiya' she spoke chirply. 'Fancy meeting you here' she added.

Viraat couldn't help but smirk. 'The pleasure is all mine', he said cheekily.

On hearing this, her cheeks started heating up and she blushed. 'Noo don't blush. Why is his cheesy line making me blush. The other day the hot creepy guy in the club said that same thing in the club when I couldn't reach my drink at the bar and he handed it to me. Why didn't I blush', she thought. 'Oh yeh he was creepy' she thought, 'and not him' her subconscious added.

'Ready to go' he eagerly asked, breaking her thoughts.

'Yeh lets go' she spoke enthusiastically.

'This is going to be fun' he thought, getting into his car.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For someone who she thought she would feel uncomfortable with and would run off in the minutes. She felt strangely relaxed. They were having a casual conversation of resturants and places in Vancouver, he felt she needed to see. He came up with restaurants they could go to then rubbished the thought as he added on things she might not like. 'You hate shushi, so thats a definite no'. 'That restaurant is too crowded, we might never get a seat and you hate standing and eating'. 'The restaurant is on the 10th floor so unless I want you to get sick of dizziness, we are not going there.' He added after each idea.

'He knows me so well', Maanvi thought. We only ever talked on the phone or mailed eachother. If it was possible, she liked him more now.

'Maanvi?' He asked, looking ahead on the street.

'Hmm', she answered, turning to look at his face and admiring his strong jawline.

'Can I ask you a question?', he asked, with an uncertainty.

Her heart beat started beating fast again. Her cheeks started heating up and she felt light headed. 'Yeh', she answered, quietly.

' What do you think off... ' he asked trailing his thoughts.

'What do I think off what?', she asked hesitantly, hyperventilating. 'Stop it', she reminded herself. Breath in and out, or just breath, she directed her breathe.

'My shirt?' he added, confused.

Her breathe caught up with her and she shook her head in disbelief.

'It's nice, colourfull' she added in a sarcastic tone, dissapointed in his question and looked away from him.

He failed to catch her sarcasm but shook her head. He clutched tightly to his steering wheel and cursed himself in his mind.

'Wasted a perfect opportunity to ask her about us' he thought, disappointed . 'Chicken', he mocked himself.

'Chicken', she thought.

They both somewhat knew that they they were attracted to eachother. Her flirting and her possessiveness hasn't gone unnoticed. Maanvi wanted him to confess first but rubbished her thought on uncertainty. 'What if he doesn't like me that way', she wondered as always. Virat had a feeling Maanvi did have a soft corner for him. He didn't want to ruin their friendship if it turned out to be one sided likeness. She was the only one he could ever talk to about anything. On days he was angry or upset, she could just call her and on sensing this, she would just make his worries and anxiety go away. The sound of her voice was enough to make him happy. The best and worst part of this closeness was that they were family friends, so their families never suspected anything else but friendship between them but this also made it harder for them to confess as family relations might get affected. The most troubling issue on this relationship was the distance. She lived in London and he lived in Canada. 'It will never work', they bought thought.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

' Mexican food?!' She asked, smiling brightly and staring at the taco sign in an colourful yet elegant looking restaurant, as the car pulled up in the parking.

'I'm guessing you like it?' he asked, sure about his choice of restaurant. She loves mexican food.

'Yesss', she kept her bright smile and opened the car door and stood outside.

He sat in the car for a few more seconds before getting out, sighing at her bright smile and the fact that he was the reason behind it.

Hey Guys😃
Thankyou for the great responses. I am hoping you like the next part. Please buddy me if you want the next update as it's easier. I had a day of uni yesterday and today so a quick update.
Elenor😉
PART 2
Viraat walked behind Maanvi into the restaurant as he motioned her to sit on the corner booth of the restuarant. Maanvi hesitantly sat down on the table, looking outside through the glass walls and around the restaurant. She nervously bit her lips while shaking her foot, involuntarily closing and opening her fists. Virat, on the other hand never moved his eyes from her nervous face. He curiously stared at her wondering why she has gotten quiet all of a sudden. He smirked wondering if he was affecting her.

'So...' he asked, getting her attention.

'So?', she replied, confused.

'How many lights are in the resturant then?', he asked, with a serious look in his eyes.

'Huh', she blurted out.

'Well, it looked like you have been noting everything about the restaurant since we have been here', he smiled.

'14 in this section', she replied, confidently.

His eyes grew bigger from her reply as he leaned back on his chair.'You have got an answer for eveything' he said as he chuckled lightly.

'Well Maanvi, can we order now or are you planning to note down the number of chairs too?' he asked casually, flipping through the menu card.

'Order, I am starving', she replied, opening the menu card.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Oh come on, You cannot be mad about that. He deserved it. Do you see the way he looks at you', he replied, clearly annoyed.

'Virat, you have got to stop grilling him. He doesn't like me in that way. The other day he talked to me about his new girlfriend'. she argued, munching on her chips.

'Why are you talking to him?', he asked, raising his eyebrows. Putting his fork down on this plate.

'Um because my parents love to take me to boring family dinners 'Hum saath saath hai' and as we are all family friends, he's there too'. She replied, enjoying his jealousy.

'If he comes close to you again... I swear... just stay away from him'. He replied, getting angry on the trail of his thoughts. 'Done with this topic', he snapped.

'Ahh too bad, I'm going to miss talking about him', she answered, looking disappointed yet trying to hide her amusement by the fact that he was getting annoyed.

Virat ignored her and half smiled. 'Payback time', he thought as he picked up his knife and cut through the shrimp quesadillas.

'So, how is your friend doing? Maaya right?' he asked.

Maanvi dropped the chip on her plate and looked up. ' She's ok, I guess', she replied rapidly, looking around, pretending to be bored of his question.

Virat tilted his head slightly to get her attention. Grinning at her response.

' Never met a girl like her. Confident girl. They way she cornered me last year to tell me how much she likes me?' he said, leaning close to her. ' In a family party too?, he whispered. Very confident', he repeated himself.

'Yes I am sure she's very confident, why didn't you return her feelings then, Mr smitten?' she asked, pulling a fake smile.

'Not my type. She's ok for a one off', he winked. She looked at him disgustedly, sipping her drink. He laughed at her response and picked up his drink.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The car turned its way into a drive through. Maanvi saw the sign of the building and her head snapped up.

' Ben and Jerry's restaurant?' she squealed, her eyes lighing up with excitement.

'Oh yeh, you and your obsession with Ben and Jerry's. I fail to see how skinny you are with what you eat? he asked.

'Oh please, nazar na lagao. You have an obsession with gym and I have an obsession with Ben and Jerry's so its all fair', she spoke happily.

'My obsession is healthy', he replied, slouching his shoulder.

'Ben and Jerry's is all healthy. It contains milk and fruits sometimes'

'Processed', he smile. ' Why don't you join me in the gym, lose the babyfat maybe?, he smirked.

Her mouth opened wide and her eyes looked away to the building.

'Jealous' she muttered.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He walked in sync with her stride. His hands moved around her waist guiding her through the crowds in the mall. She looked up to him, embarassed by his touch. He looked back into her face as she lowered her eyes. He smiled at her sudden shyness, stopping besides the escalators.

' Well this is the great mall I wanted to show you' he said, moving his hands in the air.

'Shopping centre', she corrected. 'And besides, It's alright. Why are you advertising it as it's the best place on earth? Got a new job then?, she boredly asked.

'Infact I have', he answered, looking at her face. 'They want a new security guard aswell and your a jhansi ki rani, perfect for this job. Want me to recommend you? He asked, raising his eyebrows and leaning forward.

'Funny', Maanvi said sarcastically.

'So you want to shop or not'.

Her anger disapeared as she replied, 'Lets shop'.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'What is it with girls and going mad over shopping', he asked, adjusting the shopping bags in the car.

'Retail therapy is the best therapy', she replied, half smiling.

'Will have to listen to that if a Psychologist is saying it',Virat said, closing the door and walking to his driving seat.

'So many people to treat when I am done with my Psychology degree', she happily said, when he got in the driving seat.

He moved to face her and said ' What about me? What will you be treating?'

Hmm... Your anger issues, your obsession with gym, you not being able to stand that your ever wrong, your addiction to superbowl and generally being a nice human being', she replied.

'Fair enough'. He said, not getting offended by anything she says. When they first started talking, Virat got offended by Maavi's blatant nature but he gradually learned not to take it seriously as this was her nature and he appreciated her honesty. He also knew she was joking and whenever he got upset, she always reminded him to stay like he is 'cause being imperfect makes you real', he thought on her words.

'Well Miss Psychologist to be? he asked, sitting in the car facing her.

'Yes Mr Lawyer to be' she moved her head to face his.

' I have a situation', he frowned, hiding his smile.

'Will you care to reflect on it?' she asked

'Well there is this girl... ' he trailed off. She blinked her eyes rapidly, acknowledging where the conversation can lead them. She looked at him, waiting for him to finish his sentence. 'Why does he always stop in the middle of the sentence. When he should speak he trails off yet whenever he wants to argue, he can never shut up', Maavi wondered.

' I like her', he stated nervously, holding her gaze.

'What is the problem then?', she hesitantly asked, she was light headed again.

'Its complicated', he replied, looking down to his hands.

'Do I know her?' she nervously asked as his head snapped up and he smiled, removing his ray ban as he leaned towards her direction.

* BEEEP BEEEP*

He swore and looked out of his window and told the man in the car that he is driving out. Maanvi looked down to her hands, half smiling. Disappointed in the timings.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They returned back in the evening. The journey back, they had aruged on the music in the car, talked about the aunty who gossiped about everyone, their childhood memories and the food in the restaurant. The car arrived down the lane and pulled over. His hand tapped on the steering wheel. 'I had a really good day', he looked over to her face, her eyes light up and she grinned. She answered him enthusiastically, 'me too, thank you for showing me around'.

' What are you doing on Monday?' Viraat asked, looking directly into her twinkling eyes as she bit her lips and answered, 'Not much, washing my hair'.

'Well can you wash your hair anyother day as I was hoping to take you out', he asked mischievouy. 'It's one of my closest friend's engagment and you know how much I love to be surrounded by aunties asking me about my relationship status'. She giggled at this.

'I guess I can help, keep you away from the aunties'. she replied, getting out of the car.

'Great', he grinned, getting out of the car and getting her bags out the car. 'I'll text you the timings'.

He walked until he was merely a feet away from her, he handed her bags to her and leaned in close to hug her, she mirrored his actions. He pecked her cheek. Her eyes grew bigger in suprise as they pulled back. She looked down on the street to hide the emotions in her eyes and glanced up when she had sobered her thoughts. He smiled at her. Walking over to her house, she glanced back to Viraat, who was now sitting in his car. They both waved at eachother and Viraat's car pulled away and she opened the door.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'So he's a boyfriend?' Kreya asked, brushing her hair infront of her dressing table.

' Just a friend', Maanvi replied, looking down at her green tea. She was sitting on the bed, crossed legged in her pink pyjamas. She glanced at her phone repeately, and frowned at her blank screen.

Kreya noticed her repeated actions in her mirror and smiled at her cousin's behaviour over a guy.

'BEEEP BEEEP' her phone rang loudly, grinning, she quickly grabbed it and ran out of the room. She heard her cousin's fainted laugh in the background. She walked outside to the patio balcony as she quickly lounged into the thick cushioned chair.

'Hello', she spoke, slightly out of breathe.

'Hello stranger', he replied casually.

'Hey Viraat', she said, pulling a fleece blanket on herself as she settled down on the chair. It was early afternoon around 1 and the sun was shining brightly in the ocean blue sky yet it was chilly. Her eyes blinked rapidly at the beaming sun and she pulled the blanket over her head.

'Did you finally decide to take my advice on your obesity?' He asked. Eleborating further on his question, 'were you running to loose the babyfat then?'. Her mouth flew open and she muttered unintelligent words.

'I'm sorry, didn't catch that', he replied confusedly, still smiling.

'Your just jealous of how I don't need gym to loose weight and you obviously do', she spoke, confidently.

'Ok fine, you win', he muttered and she grinned. 'Are you still up for tomorrow?', he asked, bitting his lips and closed his eyes in nervousness.

'Of course, aunties hate me anyway so might aswell put it in a good use', she spoke rapidly.

Her mind flashbacked to an earlier event a month ago. On her parents anniversary party, she had worn a printed saree with a small backless top. One of the aunty almost had an heartattack when she walked into the venue. She had heard her muttering about her clothing to her fellow aunties the whole night and on top of that she was always taunted by the aunties for not greeting them.

'If I don't see them, how can I greet them? She always said to her Mother. 'They always come out of nowhere than accuse me for not greeting them and I'm like you just appeared all of a sudden. I have to pull a fake smile and apologise'.

Trailing her thoughts to reality, she shifted uncomforably in her chair. 'Have you just woken up?' she asked because of his husky voice.

'Yehhh' he exaggerated.

'Afternoon! Lazy Viraaat', Maanvi said, repeating his exaggerated tone.

'Subha subha utha nahi jata' he yawned as he stretched his hands in the air. He sat down on his chair and lazly flicked through the channels on the tv.

'Did you have a good time yesterday? I am sorry I couldn't show you around as much as I wanted to', he asked, looking disappointed.

'Had a really good time. No worries it was a good day', she shyly said, grinning and remembering yesterday evening.

'Are you blushing again?', he asked mischieviously.

'Huh', she snapped out of her thoughts.

'Have you never noticed? You always blush when your around me', he asked, bitting his lips, waiting for her response.

Her mouth flew open and her eyes wider. She felt her cheeks burning red. Her mind started to think of a response to say back.

'Haa you would think that wouldn't you Mr Smitten. Why is it so sunny here, its early May?' she spoke rapidly. Blabbing on about the weather and how much she missed the rain in UK.

'KREYA, MAANVI, BREAKFAST IS READY', she heard Liya shouting downstairs.

' I have to go now Viraat, I'll see you tomorrow', she shot back, getting out of her blanket.

'Alright, take care, see you tomorrow', he said dreamily, running his hand through his messy hair.

'You too, bye', she said, biting her lip and standing out of her chair. She hung up the phone, smiling to herself. She stood in the patio holding the phone close to her heart.

'MAAANVI!'

'Coming, coming' she shouted back running inside the house.
