😆 She's on holidays so chalta hai, early afternoon 😉, as in our house if someone is over we have this big breakfast, which takes agess and everyone gets up late and then does their breakfast early afternoonish 😃
'Why are sarees so difficult to adjust', Maanvi muttered, while trying to grip her saree together. She had been nervous the whole day. She didn't make the best first impressions and meeting Viraat's closest friends was making her obnoxious.
His car pulled into the drive way as she came out the house, trying to straighten the creases of her navy blue chiffon saree with maroon border. She had borrowed small rusty gold chumkas from her cousin and was carrying a small blue clutch bag. She looked up to find him standing outside his SUV and leaning causally against it. She smiled at the sight infront of her and he smiled back. He let out a sigh as he watched her walking towards him, clutching her bag in one hand and holding her pallu in the other.
'Hey',
she said as she walked up to stand infront of him.
'Hey',
he replied, still lost in the sight infront her.
They stood like this for a few more seconds as Maanvi fidgeted with her saree and looked around, hoping he would say something. The sky was bright blue and the golden sun beamed in the sky. She looked down on the ground as the sun was too strong and she was failing to keep her eyes open.
'You look beautiful',
he said, mesmerized.
'Thanks, you too'she shyly replied.
'I look beautiful?.He questioned. Her head snapped up and she looked at his smug face and realizing what she said, she quickly recovered.
'Oh I mean handsome',
she said, rapidly.
'Thanks',
Viraat replied, grinning.
Viraat was wearing a white buttoned shirt. The first 2 buttons were undone, which revealed his toned chest. The white shirt contrasted perfectly with his tan complexion. His hair, messy as always.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Congrats Man!'
Virat greeted the new engaged pair and moved closer to hug his friend. 'Thanks Man', his friend replied, hugging him back.
'Congrats to you too, Sanaya',
Viraat and Maanvi spent majority of the time on the same table as the newly engaged couple. Viraat was telling stories about the time in which he helped them sneak around and how they all went on endless holiday trips without anyone knowing. Maanvi couldn't help smiling at Virat, as he talked and joked around his friends and his eyes light up whenever he would talk about something mischievous or grinned at the adventures.
'Chicken wings?'
Maanvi looked up to Viraat in confusion as he looked back and bit his lips to stop him smiling.
Oh, she needs to know about the chicken wings story',
Viraat exclaimed, smugly, to which Arjun hesitated as Sanaya laughed and encouraged Virat to tell the story.
'So, Arjun's first date with the lovely Sanaya. Let's say Arjun was really nervous about his date. He took Sanaya to this all you can eat steak house. Sanaya laughed at this and Arjun defended himself' Whaat? She liked steaks so thought that was a good idea'. as he looked at Sanaya in confusion to which she nodded her head in agreement, trying to control her laugh'. Date was going alright until the chicken wings came',he smiled. 'So our Arjun picks up a knife and starts chopping the small bbq chicken wings in countless pieces and offering it to Sanaya as she looked at him confused. He was trying to impress her with his table manners by using a knife and a fork to eat chicken wings. One wing flies up in the air and on the floor to which Arjun casually tries to ignore.'Sanaya linked her arms with her fiance and laughed staring at his embarrased face. 'Arjun reached a nervous peak point and excused himself to get some fresh air'.
'Not true, I had a phone call!'
'So he says'
, Virat replied, sarcastically.' Anyway, as he got up from the table, as he stepped a feet away from the table, he tripped on a his chicken wing and fell hard on the floor! Then our lovely Sanaya asked him if he was alright and he casuallyyy, he exaggered, got up from the floor to everyone is the restaurant staring at him and replied' gravity'.
Maanvi started laughing and Virat joined her. Arjun looked down at his hands, smiling and flustered.
'Exact moment I knew I couldn't live without him', Sanaya admited, melodramatically, laughing with her friends.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was almost 7 in the evening and the party was sobering. Most guests had left and few relatives and friends remained. Virat motioned Maanvi to go and she nodded. They all said their goodbyes as Maanvi hugged the newly engaged couple and congratulated them again. As Maanvi and Viraat were near the door, he looked back at his friends, who mouthed 'Good luck', as Virat held up his hand to say goodbye and bit his lips in nervousness. He moved to face Maanvi's direction as a tap on his shoulder caused him to look back and he smiled at the woman in front of him.
'Hello Aunty, kaise hai aap',
Viraat asked a middle aged woman, drapped in a gold georgette saree. Her hair where pulled back and her face was proud.
'Viraat beta, hum theek hai. Aap kaise hai',
You left without saying hello', she spoke, disappointed.
Maanvi stood behind Virat and looked down on the floor smiling at the conversation. She could only see a side of the shimmery gold saree as she blinked her eyes in how much it was sparkling.
'I am good thanks, Aunty, I am sorry I didn't see you anywhere'.
Virat apologised.
'Koi baat nahi. You know after Arjun, it's your turn to get engaged',
she said.
Viraat smiled,'I'm only 21 right now, aap sab ko wait karna ho ga'.
'Arjun is 22, if your sure about the right girl then there is no time to waste',
the proud aunty said as looked around from Viraat to Maanvi. Her eyes glancing at her attire and she stared at her, up and down in confusion.
'Oh, I'm so sorry',
Virat apologised, stepping back to where Maanvi was and introducing here. 'This is Maanvi, and Maanvi, this is Arjun's bua'.
'Hello Maanvi',
she greeted her, smiling at the girl.
'Hello, Nice to meet you',
she humbly replied.
Viraat and Maanvi stood in the doorway as Arjun's bua inquired Maanvi on her life. She asked about her education, ambitions, her family to her rescue, virat cut in the conversation and excused themself from her by saying they were getting late. Only then she let them go.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Oh fish, forgot my car keys on the table'
, he realized, as they stood in the parking, infront of his black SUV.
'That's fine, I'll wait here'
, she replied walking to the bonnet, clutting her bag near her.
'It's cold, come with me',
he said.
'Nah, its alright. I'm going to wait here',
she replied, smiling.
'Its cold Maanvi, I'm not leaving you on your own',
Virat exclaimed.
'I'm not a 5 year old Virat.Don't need a babysitter. I can take care of myself'
, she shot back firmly 'and besides, I am wearing heels so I can't walk back again', she said.
'Maanvi, lets go ... what are you doing now?,
he asked.
'We are going to be here for a while so just making myself comfortable',
she said boredly, leaning against the car.
'Maanvi, stop being stubborn',
he shot back, getting annoyed. His tone higer then it usually was.
'You too, Virat',
she followed his tone.
'Fine, I'm going in',
just stay by the car and call me if something is up', he warned, looking at her face in acknowlgement.
'Virat, the building is right there. It will take you 5 mins to walk from here to the building',
she replied.
'Here, take my jacket',
he said, taking his jacket off.
'Virat, I'm ok. It's not that cold',
she smiled at his gesture.
'Maanvi, do you really wanna stand here and discuss this further'
, he warned, giving a look of we -can- argue- for- ages.
'Fine',
she grabbed the jacket he was holding and put it on.
'I'll be back',
he said as he bagan marching down to the building. A little too fast.
'Men!',
she mummered as she watched him go.
'Huh',
an unfamiliar voice said from behind.
Maanvi turned her head back to see a man in his early 20s looking at her, confused.
'Sorry',
she moved to face back to Viraat's direction and wished she hadn't been so stubborn and had gone in. She wondered if the man has moved from behind her but heard nothing but his fainted laugh a few minute later as he came and stood infront of her.
'Do you need a lift?,
the man asked, smiling at her.
'Thats ok, I'm waiting for someone.',
she replied humbly and moved herself closer to the passenger door of Viraat's car.
'You look nice',
he said.
'Thanks',
she replied sternly and looked away.
'Can I get your number?',
he asked, moving towards her and suddenly stop at the tone of voice behind him.
'What the hell?',
Virat said walked up to his car. 'What are you saying to my girlfriend?', Virat asked sternly. He walked up to stand infront of him.
'Sorry dude, didn't realize she had a boyfriend,
he replied, boredly.
'Why are you showing attitude man?',
Virat shot back.
'Virat, lets go',
Maanvi pleaded quietly, walking over to Virat and held his hand, motioning him to move.
'Take it easy man, I didn't know she had a boyfriend',
the man replied.
'Why are you still standing here, leave then'.
Virat shouted back.
'What the hell',
he mummered and he started walking back.
'You wanna loose the attitude',
Virat shouted and the guy looked back over his shoulder and gave him a confused look. 'Nah don't walk off, tell me what your problem is?', he said walking to him as Maanvi held his hand back and caused him to look at her.
'What happens to you when your angry? You dont think straight, you were just provoking him for a fight',
she said.
'Do you wanna go now or do you want to stay here?',
he shot back at her. His tone still higher then usual.
'Why are you angry at me now?,
she looked at his face. She frowned as her eyes creased together from hurt.
'I'm not, just sit in the freaking car',
he replied, his voice steady from before.
'Fine',
she shot back and walked over to the passenger seat.
It had been 20 minutes without them speaking to eachother. Virat glanced at her from time to time, hoping she would look his way so they can talk to eachother. Maanvi, on the other hand refused to look at him and kept her face straight on the road or on her mobile. He hated when he hurt her. The silence between them was breaking his heart. Her heart was sinking thinking of how he talked to her before. She had never seen him this angry.
'Ahem', he pretended to cough to get a reaction from her. Maanvi ignored him and stared staight at the road.
'How can he be so sweet sometimes and a jerk the next', she thought. Tapping her touchscreen louder then usual.
' Maanvi?', he pleaded causing her look at him.
'Hmm',
she replied, looking at his face.
'I am sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I get worked up and then I don't think straight. It wasn't you fault. Just that guy!, he said, looking at the street in disguist, causing Maanvi to smile.
'Thanks for helping me', she replied softly and added 'but that doesn't mean you get worked up like that on me',
she warned.
'Never again',
he whispered.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'This isn't my house',
Maanvi asked. Looking around the unfamiliar houses and a sight of water is the distance as the moon shun brightly over it.
'Really?'
Viraat replied, shocked.
'Where are we Viraaat? Are you planning to kill me?',
Maanvi asked.
He gasped in suprise as he leaned towards her and whispered. 'How did you know?'
'Maar bhi jaao, phir bhi Bhoot ban kar tumhay haunt karonge'. Ab batao na, where are we?
'kar layna mere maa! We are at the docks, there is going to be a firework nearby in exactly 10',
he said, glancing down at his watch. 'You like fireworks right?'
Yes but I'm wearing a saree'
'So?'
'You want me to walk there in this saree?'
'Yeh...?'
Maanvi look down at her saree, confusedly. As Viraat opened the door and Maanvi did the same. He walked up to her and took her hand and held them by the side.
