Thank you for the post. I do feel that the actor playing Dev does get targeted a lot. It was not his fault that he was brought into the story or what lines he is given.
Quite often, Dev's character is confused with the actor - it is not the actor's problem if Dev's character does not connect the dots or get to the answer from the clues. That is just plain sloppy writing - and they do it with other characters too (eg Durga or even Sakshi not getting a clue about Kangana-Karan - come on, surely it doesn't take long to figure that out?).
Another point often made is Dev episodes are dragging - I think bringing Mathur angle in was a good move by the writers, I did not feel those episodes where Dev and Mathur talked were dragging. What is more annoying is to see Shaurya mouthing obscene comments and his mother smiling indulgently or yet another Rajnath throwing a drink/yelling on phone without any reason or Suchitra with her pooja thali.
There are flaws with Dev's characterisation - but in a dark revenge story, his character does give a positive light. I would blame the writers for not using the opportunity to make Dev more realistic, logical and useful to Durga. His back-story is dodgy to say the least (it took him 2 years to come back, got caught in visa problems, etc.). But this is a problem with the writing team, why blame the actor?
It is perfectly fine to point out that the actor's reactions were not intense enough, that he did not sell us the scene (Payal's story), etc. But criticism can be done in a more dignified way.
I understand criticising someone's acting abilities, but calling someone names like dheela is not right. I don't find it in good taste and I am just another viewer like you.
As for him not making appearances at parties etc, we don't know their schedules or their equations with one another, so I cannot comment on those issues.
Personally, I find Bhuvnesh Mann is doing a decent job, he does give positive vibes as Dev (not easy, given how poorly written his parts usually are).
