Shravan wants Sumo all to himself, all the time. Like someone said, he's the typical introvert. But more so, he's the typical guy in this way. May guys these days want to risk very little for the girl they actually love. They want her to stick around as a friend for when he needs her, will be there when she needs him, but still wants to be in limbo as far as the relationship is concerned because it is too scary for him. I know a guy just like this, I recently kicked him to the curb. 😈

Used to know a guy like the one you described too. Kicked him to the curb too! πŸ˜† But a very long time ago.

I agree, that guys can be very confused with what they want or how they go about getting what they want. Shravan needed to understand that Suman won't always be there, nor does she have the luxury of always being there, while he applies "Papa's suitability test" on her. His error was thinking they had all the time in the world. Didn't take into account that Suman has a family, other obligations and people she may be compelled to make sacrifices for. Namely Preeti and now Nanaji. She has a business to run and practicalities that need to be attended to.

In all this, things started to unravel badly, while Shravan was taking his time. He loves her and loves her sincerely. That part I accept wholeheartedly. Love was never the problem. It's lack of trust and lack of faith. It's fear! He wanted to show Papa that Suman was not what he was telling her she was. But in the end it appears to him that she has proven herself to be. If he had just looked at things for what it really was, instead of trying to "interpret" each thing she did, then maybe they would have had a different outcome. We know why Suman was avoiding Shravan. She was keeping her word to Ramnath. She had a reason. Shravan didn't know that. Not his fault.

His mistake was not questioning her sudden change. Instead of putting it down to ego, he should have realised there was more to it, but he didnt. Therefore, now we have a mountain instead of a molehill.

@Amulya - much needed thread.
@indrani - agree with everything you said.

Shra. One and Sumo have always had this shared unspoken understanding about where they stand in each other's lives and that to me has been the beauty of the story. It does not scream I Love You - it expresses in the natural responsibilities and Haqs they have for each other. Right now there is too much noise around them and that silent communication is broken - one of them needs to detach and take a stock of things. It will all be good in no time.

Totally agree. I am actually writing a story here right now based on all this. First time I have two SS going.

On the other matter, as to the guy. It cost me a lot to put up with him and his confusion. One minute he was behaving like a lovesick puppy and the next he was wishy washy and just being "friends." When you are on the receiving end like Suman is, it is not so pretty, you don't know the guy's actual motivations and needs even though your interactions sometimes may be loving. All you see if the mistreatment and mixed message.

We were great friends very quickly too, the friendship had potential like Shravan and Sumo's but even when you care so much about the person as a friend, it is hard to put up with their yo-yoing. When he came around trying to be friends after disappearing off the face of the earth, I kicked him to the curb. Hope to keep him there unless I fall weak. This is how I see Sumo feeling right now. She told him many times that she's waiting for his time to talk, but did he step up? Nope. There was a lot of hesitation because of this, that, and dad. Unless Shravan faces the music, it is very unlikely that she will budge to shower love on him without any gurantee from his end like he wants. A girl will have to risk humiliating herself to run to a guy who never really says how he feels.

Shravan still lives in the time zone when girls happily sung "Main tulasi tere angan ki"..
Todays girls can buy the angan, have their own tulasi and can keep a mali to take care of that tulasi...
πŸ˜‰
At reunion party also he mocked her saying..aaj Delhi se Londnon tak kitnai ladakiyaan iss Shravan Mhalotra ki dost banana chahati hain...
i was like ... dude ... khud hee khud ko chane ke zaad pe chadha rahe ho...
when he knew usse kitane papad belane pade Suman ko party mein aane kiye raji karane ko..
but I am glad ke naya Shravan sab se badala lene vala hain... sirf Suman se nahi...
Badala lete lete I am sure Suman ke baare mein usski rai bhi badal jayegi!!!

You say that Sumo has never confessed to him and has never ever given him hopes for the same. So, for Shravan to feel betrayed is wrong. Well, you have answered your question yourself. If Shravan had no rights upon her and he should not have felt bad about it...because Sumo had not confessed to him, then by analogy even Sumo should not have voiced that how hurt he must have felt. Why did she feel it in this manner? He also had not confessed and in fact, a day before had broken off ties of friendship with her. This question of she getting married with whomever her Nanu has chosen and which would hurt him should not have arisen...
She knew he was hurt, she knew he was distressed...why she had not confessed..neither had he. Recently, all they had done was to accuse each other and then why this recognition of the feeling of hurt in Sumo...You might say because she was a good person or she loved but Shravan didnt...But, notice her monologue...sshe never mentioned that she is hurt...she recognized that how hurt he must have been...
Lets go back to an incident when Shravan returned ten years later, why did Sumo feel that if she just mouths an apology ...she will be forgiven. Ten years her friend had stayed away from her...and she knew it was because of her silly mistake and yet she knew she would be forgiven. What gave her that confidence?
Why just by reading an old letter of Shravan (written ten years prior) she felt that he had not moved on. And hence felt emboldened to pursue certain experiments regarding the same. Not only Sumo, even a Ramnath and Chachi after having read that letter...felt Shravan's feelings were never that of a childhood infatuation.
Why did Shravan confess to his dad? Because one, he couldnt control his feelings and secondly, he knew he loved her and she loved him back. It was a confidence that made him say to his dad...yes, she loves as well. Sumo when she threw the challenge at Ramnath ..she knew he loves her...in spite of many MU between then and hence, said he will realize my love and then can you stop him
The question that you have posited actually fails to realize the equation between the two...
Is love only that which can be articulated, or is love also a concern, a feeling that you are responsible for the other's happiness?
This same Shravan came forward during Khosla case in spite of the biggest MU between (he had disregarded her very identity "Kaun Sumo") them at that point to support Nanu and Sumo ...He held their hands together...and when Sumo wanted to ask him why is he here...He said not today...
Love also means to protect the person you love from pain, from a sadness by consuming it yourself
It is not a question of one-sidedness ...its a question of a connection which in spite of ten years of absence and distance between them...they still looked at the other..They hadnt moved on...
When they had a conversation over telephone...how did Shravan know she was in pain? Why did he make her go off to sleep? And said even if a Nanu is not there...he shall be there...
At times you need to hear the silences, the pauses to gauge that love does not mean chasing, does not mean pursuing...it means to give hope, it means to make your lover fall off to sleep so that she could dream...
If Love was only a confession ...then this story should not have been made in the first place...
Love is a thread that connects, that vibrates, that resonates and brings the past alive into the present...and makes you hopeful about the future

@Indrani: beautiful words, Indrani... Especially the last few lines were spot on...
"At times you need to hear the silences, the pauses to gauge that love does not mean chasing, does not mean pursuing...it means to give hope, it means to make your lover fall off to sleep so that she could dream... If Love was only a confession ...then this story should not have been made in the first place..."
Nothing could be truer than this last line...
