Here is my small bit of Ramnath twist. Hope it makes sense! Chpt 2 is up!
When Shravan returned Home that evening, all red eyed and sweaty, he faced a blaring hot Ramnath.
"Kahan the tum?", He demanded. And Shravan knew he owed him an explanation. He was his father: The one whom he trusted, who was his anchor.
But Shravan didn't say anything. Any sensible person could guess where he'd been. So did Ramnath as he rushed to face Nirmala.
"I had warned her. Warned her to stay away. But no! I should've understood. In fact she even told me that she will do what she feels like. I simply don't understand how women think!", Thought Ramnath.
He thrusted open the door to Tiwari Killa. He found Nirmala standing in the courtyard. Two suitcases were kept behind her. It seemed that she was leaving for Mumbai. And Sumo was trying her level best to persuade her not to do so.
"Ho gayi tassali, pad gayi kaleje mein thandak?", Barged Ramnath.
"Maine kisise koi baat nahi ki Ram", said Nirmala coldly.
"Ohh haan, toh phir Shravan itna disturbed Kyun hai? Kyun uske aasun band nahi Ho rahe?", Battled Ramnath.
"You know what Nirmala? I really don't know tum chahti kya ho? Das Saal pehle, apne Matlab ke liye, tum humein chodkar chali gayi. Aur phir, apne Matlab ke liye , aaj waapis aayi ho."
"Yeh tum keh rahe ho Ram? Tum? Agar Bhool gaye ho toh yaad dila Doon ki main chali nahi gayi thi. Mujhe thappad markar bahar pheka gaya tha."
"You're crossing your limit! Tum jaati nahi iska natija...", roared Ramnath.
"Kisi dhamki de rahe ho? Ab main woh Nirmala nahi. Aur kis baat ki dhamki? Waisi hi Jo tumne das saal pehle di thi, Shravan ki custody ko lekar?"
"Custody?", Questioned Shravan. Unknown to both, he had been listening to their conversation from the beginning. He didn't know how to react. Be shocked at this new tale or cry at his destiny. Holding every feeling, he composed himself and waited for an answer.
"Tumhaari custody. Jab tumhaare Papa ne mujhe Divorce dene ka decision liya tha, tab Maine bola tha ki main tumhaari custody ke liye appeal karoongi, par...", she sobbed.
"Beta,...", started Ramnath but Shravan motioned him not to speak. He wanted to hear his mother today, what she had to say.
"Tumhaare Papa ne dhamki di thi ki agar Maine Tumhaari custody li toh, toh woh mere baare mein ulti seedhi baatein karenge tumse, jisse meri image, meri izzat sab...", she couldn't say those disgusting words longer.
"Papa, kya yeh Sach hai?"
Ramnath grounded his eyes. After all, the thing he feared had struck him in the worst manner. He felt so ashamed at it. He knew he'd been wrong, but he was an ideal for his son and that hurt him the most. What his Son would think on him? How will he ever trust anyone?
"Haan, haan Maine kaha tha aisa! Kyunki main darr gaya tha. Darr gaya tha ki meri naakamyaabi tumko Mujhse alag kar degi. Main hamesha ke liye Haar jaata.", Blurted Ramnath. It was the truth!
Sumo tried to slip past Shravan in the heat of argument. She tried to escape this war of words but moving out but Shravan caught her hand.
"It's you who has dragged me into it. So now, you have to bear it with me"
His eyes pleaded for help. His heart throbbed for peace. So Sumo decided to stay. Stay with him. She couldn't leave him to himself everytime. And this time, he really needed her.
On Shravan's demand for a proper explanation, Ramnath settled on a chair and spoke up:
Tum Eleventh mein the tab..
Mujhe ab bhi koi job nahi Mili thi. I was jobless. Ghar ka kharchaa tumhaari mummy ki kamaai se Chalta tha. And that hurted me. Jab bhi tumhaari mummy ka promotion ho, mujhe apni naakamyaabi par Taras aata tha. I felt defeated. Humaare differences badhte gaye aur meri jalan bhi. Mera ego hurt hota tha jab Nirmala office se late aati thi. Kaam ki baatein karti thi. Difference itna badh chuka tha ki saath rehna mushkil ho gaya tha. Of course isse tum bhi bohot disturbed Rehne lage the. Aur phir humne Divorce ka decision liya. Darr tha mujhe ki Divorce ke baad tum apni Maa ke saath chale jaoge. Main Akela ho jaoonga. Kiski liye jeeonga? There was no motive of my life. Isiliye main socha ki agar Nirmala yahan se chali jaati hain toh you'll stay with me."
He had said it all, blurted it out. This was the truth, the inevitable truth. Nirmala was glad he had accepted his fault. But Shravan seem broke.
He tumbled back a few steps. All his life, he had been wrong. Rather destiny had proved him wrong every single time. Betrayal seemed to be his lifestyle now. He felt he was born to be ditched.
