Let me start this post with a humble sorry to the writer ..for calling his writing simple ... as i watched yesterdays episode .. i had a realisation ... for the first time in my indian telly viewing time .. have i watched a STORY which is layered ... not SCREENPLAY ..
The story is layered ... ( 2 layers ) ... while the screenplay is extremely simple ...
So let me start with explaining this first ... whats a layered Story ... the first layer in this story is the story of Shravan & Suman ... the obvious love story ...the next layer or the deep hidden submerged layer is the story of Ramnath & Nirmala ... ok confused .. u dint sign up for their love story right ..hence this one is the implied story here ... just pause here a bit & let the title ring in ur mind --- Mil Jaate Hai jo Bane ek duje Ke vaaste ...
Now lets go to the story ... ( don't worry this aint gonna be about Ram & Nirnala) ... 10 years back ... that day 2 couples broke apart ... both due to a simple misunderstanding ...one in a very committed relation .. while the other wanting to forge that committed relation ...
Cut to 10 years back ...
The other couple who was in a committed relation .. are still apart ... while the one who was not in a committed relation are hesitantly slowly stepping close to each other ... ever wonder why this sublime of an episode was dished to us .. right after the whole Nirmala & Ramnath story was dished out to us ... well its coz of this ... that one couple SPLIT COZ OF EGO ... & till date their EGO .. does not let them come close to each other ...y
While the other day we saw where Ramnath had erred in this relation .. last night we saw why Nirmala had erred in this relation ... hisaab barabar ...
If your still confused hold on .. lemme explain yesterdays scene for u ...
An angry out of control Shravan calls Suman ... he screams at her .. he berates her .. & he downright demands an explanation from her .. sounds similar ... Hadn't Ramnath done the exact same thing ..not on phone but directly to Nirmala ...
Yes, Shrav shouting at her could have taken the same turn as Ram-Nir... but it didnt.
You know yesterday's episode was drawing a line, albeit an imaginary line but one which explains beautifully on what is special about these two. Shra's parents were looming large in the background as a contrast to what makes these two young people ek duje ke vaaste. Yesterday, for me writing and direction was both super brilliant👏
Here as well ... Suman did not do anything wrong she just withheld info . she was not doing any thing deliberately to undermine him or hurt him just the contrary infact .. she did not want to hurt him ...
There as welll .. Nirmala was not doing a thing wrong .. she was working hard to support her family .. she wanted a brighter future for her family .. she did not want her husband to feel let down for not being able to provide for their son & family .. hence she stepped up the plate ...
But there is one BIG DIFFERENCE ... there in the older couple .. EGO PLAYED PART she refused to explain this to her husband in a manner that he would be receptive to .. nor did she constantly struggle to bring home the point .. while Sumo did exactly that .. she made him sit & listen to her . she made him realise what she was doing she was doing for him .. she made him out to the be centre of her universe ...
@bold... that is why I mentioned John Donne's poetry.. one hand of the compass at the centre, the other revolving round and yet no one has the upper hand because the circle can only be complete when both work in tandem. Shrav sitting and listening to her patiently, he is angry because she has made him recollect those memories entrenched deep within him. And the other hand that of Sumo moving around him, with him, trying to save him from future hurt. So while u saw one scene .. another one played in the back drop .. what shud've happened 10 years back .. hence u have Shravan asking Suman those questions ... he was privy to the fights ... he knew the arguments .. & he knew how EGO'S could ruin a family ...
He also knew SUMO ... the girl who would never unbend enuf to do this ... he recognised Suman yesterday ... & he tried once more to ask her ...( without the letter this time) KYUN? Why would u do so much for me ...
Ugh .. tit for tat dude .. she friend zoned him right back ...
If she would have said for love... I guess the lawyer would have agreed then and there for marriage. 😆In the second question itself he was disappointed when she said she would leave but again his face glowed when she said she would come back after a day or two and say sorry. The last question was seriously, romantic... it was so simple. They were not even holding hands and yet the happiness of one reflected in the other. Isnt this which was missing in Ram-Nir's equation? One couldnt be happy for the other and the other couldnt or didnt try to show her happiness. For these two it was merely their goals, them alone not together. And yesterday, see the distance these two travelled... it wasnt merely a boardroom, it was moving on from their ten years of experience of loss and separation to togetherness. Yes, still a long way has to be travelled but, the start of their journey was beyond beautiful
Okay enuf about the old fuddy duddies .. lets go to the couple who atleast seems to have it together ..
Now if u have been reading me regularly ...u have read my thots on this love affair very lucidly ... they r in love whether they have the GUTS TO accept that or not ...
Lets recreate the important nuances of this scene once again ...
She says . ... She says Sorry ..
Then she says ... the dal was special for u & it rekindled a memory in u ..
Then she says ... this dal recipe was given to me by ur mother ... hence i withheld info from u ...
Pause pls ... she makes him understand ... i know what has the power to hurt u ... & i am sensitive to your feelings ... she beautifully tells him ... retain the good .. forget the bad ...there were good moments ... & what he needed to focus on was the good ...
Then she tells him ... - I am really sorry .. i did not intend to hurt u ...
Then she says ... infact the one thing i can't see is you hurt ...
Then she says ... if u r hurt now ... then all this elaborate charade i undertook was all for naught .. cause i wanted to prevent u from hurt .. but ur still hurting ...
Pause pls ... she apologises she was wrong in lying ... but whats more she apologies not for the mundane lie .. she apologises for what the lie meant to him .. how the lie hurt him ...then she makes him understand that what i did i did for u ... she says .. she was brave enuf to face his wrought if she had to prevent him from getting hurt ... what she basically tells him ... she would go to any lengths .. fight with anyone to see that he Shravan did not get Hurt ...
Now just pause here for a moment ... go back to the FB when he anoints her Sumo ...she fought that lady for him ... there was no need .. but she did not want to see him embarrassed or hurt ... & he called her Sumo from then on ...
Today ... Sumo & Suman became ONE ...they actually came back to the spot they started from ...they came back to the place where this love story started from ...
Now the interesting thing is .. Shravan then to thought she did not have any love kinda feelings for him & he still thinks the same ( albeit shoved by Sumo into thinking that) & Sumo well .. Sumo loves ... & this is the way she shows her love .. SHE CARES ... SHE NURTURES ...
That day he anointed her SUMO is the day he put her on a PEDESTAL ... pedestal where no other woman even his mother could match up ... ..
Lets go back to the Urvashi saga ...
he says i want a woman who will stick wit me thru thick or thin ... for whom me & my happiness would mean everything .one who would not desert me ... ( he says all this while looking at SUMAN)
Most of us thought this was about his mother ...but today the writer confirmed it to us ... this was about Sumo ... the girl .. who would not desert him ... the girl who would put him above all else ... for whom he would mean everything ... is it any wonder this fellow has not MOVED ON ... & now u understand why the mention of moved on keeps cropping up ...
I dont know Red about Suman or Sumo (I would like to believe as two perspectives to understanding one character) but yesterday, when Sumo's one line of sorry bola na.. brought that angry hulk back from his bad memories to an acknowledgement of his present good fortune of being in the company of the same woman who had once saved him from embarrassment. Urvashi, his mom, his dad even if physically present have never been there for him. But, this madcap is there to give him happiness even in the most everyday aspects of his life. Daal became no longer a remembrance of his mother.. it etched a new beginning. This new narrative of love, nurturance, of acceptance is beyond simple understanding. Moved on ... yes, from past hurt, from bitter memories to present love...
and Red.. how beautifully you have connected it all. Awesome👏
The only person who could move Sumo from the pedestal was SUMAN & she did that last night ...
But ofcourse the lawyer in him & had to be sure .. no case is won without cross examining .. so he badgers the poor victim ...
He says ... what if i was really angry with u
He says .. what if i was so angry with u that i sent u away
He says .. what if i was so angry with u that i went away ...
The answer to that was .. i would apologise & wait ... i would not give up on you .. i will stand by u ...
Yes, sumo gave her answers clearly... Shrav will now have to remember this response of her... journey will have to be undertaken
The pedestal had been crowned once again ...
So he comes out & tells her ... u could not be like any other woman ... you r someone i use as a measure .. ur someone right up there ... your someone who stands tall on my PEDESTAL ... Ur SPECIAL ...
welcome to the love story of Shravan & Suman .. the love story that started a few years back .. today will come closer as they unite lovers in their path way ... coz ... this was one love which stood the test of time .. they were the benchmark for lovers ...
Thats it from me .. anymore & i would give away the screen play of the next track ... THE last bit was simply sublime .. maybe will take that up in my next wine shot ..i am sure it will crop up as a reference in some other shot .. so pls bare with me .. for the moment just go with the flow .. the romance in an umbrella .. but since its our very own hatke serial .. it was no rainy stormy day .. but a hot scorching sun ... well do u think it was the maker telling .. guys this ride is gonna be 'hot" one 😳
