Memories started flooding back... Those chess games, those law discussions, homework controversies ... Everything flooded his mind like a huge tornado. And then, he softly touched that crossword book. That prized possession that he had cherished all his life. That letter which had remained unread Like his unread feelings, which no one knew of. Sigh! No point of talking on it now. They had "moved on". So logically now there was no point talking of it. He picked up the letter. Moved his hand gently around it for the last time. He had decided to end it today. End that wait... End that hope.
As he was still gathering will to tear it apart, the phone rang. Trriingg. Trriinngg.
We went to the hall and picked it up.
"Ss... Ssh.. Sob..Shravan?", came a faint voice. His hand shook. It was Suman. But why was she crying? And why had she called him? Was there a problem?
"Hello... Hello Sumo? What happened? Tum kyun rahi ho? Hello!", he shouted. But the wails only increased at the other end. Her loud sobs made him feel weak in his knees.
"Sshravvan... Nanu... Sob"!!!
That's it! He felt the world around him crashing all at once. A disaster had struck both of them and they didn't know how to deal it.
