Chapter 1
~The Shadow Of The Past~
Though Bhopal is not as big as any of the metropolitan cities, but this mid-sized city which is located in the heart of India is utterly beautiful with valleys and some magnificent lakes. Apart from this scenic beauty, it's also noted for the Thakur Family. Thakur Jairaj Singh Shekhawat, who is a successful businessman and a complete family oriented man at the same time, he believed in the saying that life is not about good vs bad, it's about good vs good. This mindset always helped him get through all ups and downs, as life took away many things from him, but it granted him success and a small family but the only convulsion is, it's incomplete till now.
It was time for nightfall; the shadow of the closure of the day was swinging in the water. It had a weird similarity to life, which came to an end only to give rise to a new beginning. Somewhere near the lake; like an illustration of a harsh reality into a dreamy euphoria; a multi-storied building stood proudly with grace and oomph. A man of fifty sat on a window side table, and looked at the city through the glass window which were glistening with the reflections of the faraway lights. Govind, Govind Shukla was one of the most efficient workers of this company; the flake of experience and the mark of hard work which adhered to his face made him the most credible jobholders of this company.
Although he had many demands and amour-propre towards life, but still he always tried to give his best to his job; and maybe it's his only revenge, which he took over life. The office was empty. One or two employees, who had stayed back, were all gone now. In keeping ahead some work, Govind was still in the office. Though he always remained subtle with his emotions, but that day's view looked like a music emanated from a distance, which compelled him to watch more and more. But like a sudden cut in the rhythm, the whole beauty got messed up like a kinematic conglomeration mass. The bland backdrop of an intense beam of light came like a sharp ray and stung in his eyes. Sat on such cold place, he got a cold sweat. The silence and the hugeness of the room came to swallow him. This particular moment gave him an emotional urge, a sharp throe, the memory of one mistake and an unbearable compunction. Govind kept his eyes away and closed his files. Whenever this memory came vividly he became restless, this cold room became sultry at once. Govind stood up from his chair and took all his belongings and turned off the lights before leaving the office, suddenly the office turned into quiescent and in that empyreal quietness, only the bang of the door echoed all over that eerie darkness.
The house stood like a charcoal sketch in the dark. The front door was wide open, and the inside was irresistibly dark too. Walking through the pathway towards the house, Govind stopped for a moment. When something familiar becomes unrecognized, then everything becomes eerily frightening and then the senses stop working and people start thinking about all the weirdness and absurdity. He frowned and stopped at the same moment. As he had never seen such a scene, so at first only bad thoughts occurred in his mind. He hurried to the front door and entered, the darkness was too much. Govind couldn't see anything, and with that he found no one, so he became tensed. Govind came out and stood on the front veranda, this darkness had become so unbearable,
"Where is she?" he muttered.
The basement was flickering in a soft radiance. The light came from a candle which was held by a pretty hand, and its flame shivered gently. In that chiaroscuro, she fronted like a formless effigy. Her yellow Salwar covered her like a soft glistening light; the small beads of brocade of her dress were glazed through the luminosity. Her eyes were stuck on a solid metal box, which was situated in front of her. Slowly, she came towards that, opened it, her doe-eyes, which perfectly fitted with the cute small face, took some time to discover the right match, and at the next moment her lips curved in a smile. Slowly she tried to put back the fuse but it wouldn't fit. She bit her lower lips and pressed it to the socket forcefully and at the next moment the house and her face illuminated with light. She smiled quietly at her success.
"Tara...kitni baar kaha hai tumhe ki ye sab kaam mat karo?" She turned back surprised; Govind was standing there with a blustering expression on his face. His angry eyes were set on her. She had blown out the candle, came out of the door and closed it without a sound.
"Tara, kitni baar kaha hai tumhe ki ye saab kaam maat karo" She turned back surprisingly, Govind was standing there with a blustering expression on his face. His eyes were set on her. She had blown out the candles, came out of the room and closed it without a sound.
"Tara tumhe kya pata nahi ki ye khatarnak hai? Hazar bar kaha hai tumhe ki tum aisa..." But looking at her serene eyes, Govind stopped. She stood there silently folding her hands; Govind knew that to hide something from her is impossible, her eyes always found out that dark secret which people nurtured secretly in their heart. Sometime it helped to open up, but sometimes it fixed a moment in an awkward stiffness. He kept his eyes down and was about to move, when Tara stopped him,
"Kya hua hai dad?" Her sudden question made him realize that how restless and frustrated he was. Yes, this was a minor issue, Tara often did these type of household work, but true, he had reacted too much and that off course in a weird way. Govind tried to be normal; and going to state something, which could change the topic. But Tara was at the same cold pose as she was before,
"Dad... Mujhe pata hai ki kuch toh hai jo aapko pareshan kar raha hai, aap hamesha kuch chupate rehte ho..Kabhi mujhse...Kabhi duniya se aur Kabhi khud se bhi...aur itna toh mujhe bhi pata hai ki yeh koi chupi hui kashmakash ka hi natiza hai, aur yeh aaj se nahi..uss din se chal raha hai jis din mom..." But she restrained herself; she knew that this topic had somehow become prohibited in this house. Tara kept her eyes down as she had crossed her limit. Govind looked at her and said,
"Mujhe koi pareshani nahi hai. Main theek hoon," and he left the place, Tara heaved a sigh.
The evening winds were blowing gently with a mild chill. Govind sat in the front garden. The sky was clean and the little yellowish moon was looking beautiful at the backdrop of the black sky. Tara was in the kitchen, making some tea and somewhere lost in her thought. Since that day her dad had became so quiet and it seemed he wanted to confess but his brain made him stop. Suddenly her thoughts got interrupted by some mechanical sound. she found her phone was vibrating with a known number flashing on the screen, she received at once,
"Haan, Bol! tu aa rahi hai nah?" She said in one breathe. After a silent moment the mild voice replied from the other end of the phone. "Tara, maine tujhe yeh batane ke liye call kiya tha ki main aaj nahi ja payungi, I'm not feeling well!!" And hung up at once.
Tara became blank after hearing her. Her voice was not normal, it was trembling. Besides she never did these kinds of weird things. The caller was Seher, her childhood friend, since childhood they had done everything together. But one difference that made their friendship stronger is while Tara is daredevil, Seher is a little introverted. But she never hid anything from her. Today, suddenly what happened to her? Tara placed the phone on the kitchen slap anxiously. It seemed suddenly everything got wrapped up in a veil of mystery.
