In serials, name-ji is the norm w/ most lead couples, while in some, the bahus just plainly address hubbies by name (e.g. Sandhya in RS addressed both Yuvraj, and later her 2nd husband Neeraj, by name, w/o even the -ji. In Jyoti and PKCM, the -ji was kept, as is in BBGC, while in RBO again, the -ji was dropped. The mileages vary).

In real life, wives just address hubbies by name, it's no big deal. Mine does. But I'd be surprised if any of our parents generation had that practice.

I disagree w/ something else you've written in some other threads of how this is worse than KHMK or JSK. So far, DBSK hasn't gone anywhere to the extent that KHMK has, and if you recall, ASR in the Uttarkand completely botched it when showing KL childhood - not just swarna kamal but everything b4 that. In JSK, they showed Vasudev as a part time psycho, and in KHMK, they made up whatever they felt like to show the Kauravas in a good light. The Tulabharam incident is not even well documented to complain that it's being distorted - maybe SP would have done well not to have shown it in the first place.

But I do agree that Rukmini needs to be back. If there are problems w/ Priya, get a good actress - there are plenty in MSDK who would do a good job there - and put her back in her proper role.

Vrish,

>>In real life, wives just address hubbies by name, it's no big deal. Mine does. But I'd be surprised if any of our parents generation had that practice.<<

I know that's how it happens these days - that's what I found funny with Simar calling "Prem ji". Either she says Prem or Suniye ji... A combo sounds odd and contrived..

Now coming to DBSK itself. The only acceptable mode for RSJ to address Krishna or even refer to him would be, without a doubt, 'Aryaputra'/ 'Swami' - not any of his several epithets (Giridhar/Govind/Muridhar,etc). 'Dwakadheesh / Yadhukul Shiromani could have been used in addition to 'Aryaputra', sparingly though.

In the AS version of Ramayan, Sita does address/refer Ram as Raghunandan Shrii Ram. Raghunandan is fine (In Valmiki, it is Raghava), Shri Ram is NOT. Adding a shri or a ji did not grant the wife the right to take her husband's name, keeping in mind the era in which these incidents took place.

BRC's Mahabharata was worse. IIRC, Draupadi not only took the liberty of calling her husbands by name, she even addresses them as "tum". How coarse!.

Even the "didi shri" and the "bhabhi shri" could have given way to more sanskritzed "jyestha" or "Bhavaj". If they can call Bhishma as Pitamaha and not "Dadaji" then why not use terms as close to Sanskrit as possible?

Sometimes the level of research leaves so much to be desired.

In RSR, Sita always addressed Rama as Raghunath, but never Raghunandan. Valmiki addressed Rama as Raghunandan. Difference was clear - those older/superior to Rama in stature, like Vaisistha, Valmiki, et al would address Rama as Raghunandan, while Sita would address him as Raghunath (Lord of the Raghus). Others usually addressed him as Maharaj, Prabhu... Incidentally, Sita could have addressed Rama as Maharaj, and been pretty okay, although it was pretty funny when Sita objected to Rama calling her Maharani. 😆

BRC was pretty coarse in more ways than just this one - Draupadi only once addressed Bhima as Aryaputra - when she asked him to shave Jayadrath. Otherwise, she'd always say things like Gadadhar Bhim, Gandhiv-ban Arjun, as though putting those prefixes made it okay. And hers was the only problem - Kunti, Madri, even Gandhari, used Aryaputra for their husbands. If the Draupadi they select in this serial is like RJS have been, I shudder to think of her as addressing Arjun as Partha, or Yudhisthir as Dharmaputra, or even worse, Nakul or Sahadev as Madri-Nandan 🤢😆

I really would have liked all the wives to have addressed them as Aryaputra. I'm fine w/ Didi & Bhabishri, though, but for the latter, only when Krishna is addressing Revathy (Bhabi-ma sounds too funny), not when RJS or any of his other wives are.

Vrish,

In Valmiki Ramayan, I remember Sita referring to Ram as "Raghava" (at least in scene when she calls upon Mother Earth to prove her claim her) Vasishitha and Vishwamitra could have called Ram as Ram- not only was he their disciple, but Vasishtha was the one who named him so.

>> I'm fine w/ Didi & Bhabishri>>

Point is- these terminologies came into existence later on. It sounds odd to hear them alongside Pitamaha. Adding a shri does not sanskritize it automatically. IIRC, one of the characters (was it Gandhari?) even used a "foofha shri". UUGH!!!

I agree that in many ways, DBSK is better than KHMK and JSK, but I was just trying to make a point that the other serials at least did not completely take out a character or replace an important one with another. This Jambavathi replacing Rukmini is the first we're seeing in a mytho show, even though the tulabhaaram episode is not documented. And definitely DBSK has a far better cast selection that KHMK, but I'm really just frustrated about Rukmini being replaced, as she was Krishna's principle wife and also the most devoted and faithful. As for the tulabhaaram not being documented, it's still a very famous story, just like Ram-Hanuman Yudh, so even though replacing Jambavathi with Rukmini is not as bad as Jambavathi giving birth to Pradyumna in place of Rukmini, it's like showing Ram fighting with Sugriva in place of Hanuman for the Ram-Hanuman Yudh...though those stories are not documented in the main sources of Ramayan or Krishna Leela, they are still very famous and people know how they go, so it shouldn't be all that hard for directors to show them accurately.
As for ASR in Uttarkand, he did do a messy job with KL's childhood, but the worst of it was the swarna kamal track. Some of the scenes before that (where they showed Sita as an amazoness) were also unnecessary and made us cringe, but in general the Valmiki ashram episodes of Uttarkand were not that bad. That part of the serial did improve once Sita left on exile and Ram was not shown so weak hearted, and the show in general ended on a good note since Sita's Mahaprasthaan and Ram's Mahaprayaan were filmed really well.
I agree that many actresses in MSDK would make really good Rukminis...it's actually not too late to replace Priya if she's having personal problems or if they are having problems with her, because the serial is still in its early phase and if DBSK plans to show Krishna-Rukmini love story like they originally said, the new actress will eventually get accepted by viewers if she's good in the role.
