While waiting at the Jordanian embassy for my visa, I have lots of time to kill, and, what better than DMG to vent my frustration. They both pretty much work in the same way – make you wait and wait hoping that you manage to get what you want!!
What a lot of drama and hulla balloo over an actress leaving a show? Should give you an idea of how much, at one point in time, the audience connected with the show and the chemistry between SA and KSG (I did, I thought the chemistry was awesome ). Unfortunately, the chemistry is all that is left of the show amidst all the crap that has been shown in the last couple of months. And because the chemistry is all that is left, the departure of one half of the chemistry is causing so much distress amongst its ardent followers.
I wonder what makes an actress quit a show, at the peak of her popularity? With seemingly nothing in hand (hoopla about "bigger and better" offers - where, who, what?), and average acting capabilities, what would make her leave a show that defined her as an actress and is her claim to fame? Could it be a convoluted characterization, completely illogical depiction of emotions and lack of any grey matter in her character? Or the rapid deterioration of the storyline?
Or is it that she is as fickle as is being reported on some forums? That she shirks hard work? That she is unprofessional and troublesome on the sets? Or maybe is petulant on a/c of being displaced as the protagonist of the show, cos clearly the show, for a while, has been about the delectable Dr Armaan. Cos if Dr Armaan can juggle his film commitments with his TV ones, I cannot see why she cannot? Wonder what makes an actress disregard all the pleas from her obviously distressed fans? So much so, that she is not willing to do a re-think?
Cos if it is the former, then SA we empathise and sympathise with you.
DMG, in its initial months (till it turned into a crude and slapstick soap) made me smile and the AR romance reminded me of my own courtship. But a big round of applause to the creatives for destroying that illusion.
Even greater kudos to the creatives for not investing in developing any other characters (except for annoying caricatures), so with the AR chemistry no longer there, not much is left for them to play with.
I feel sorry for talented actors like KSG and Pankit who have been unfortunate victims of the creatives' shortsightedness especially poor Pankit (KSG at least is the protagonist and the show is centred around him).
Pankit - a talented actor, a lovable character, look what he has been reduced to? A crude, unrefined chimpanzee who appears to be moronic, dim-witted and a philistine instead of his original quirky, "simple soul" character!
Poor Shubhankar, reduced to a comic, bumbling idiot from a competent, professional, sensitive doctor.
While Keerti has been butchered to a far lesser extent, the transition from the tough-with-a-soft-heart mentor to the sultry siren gyrating to entertain her interns is embarrassing.
Lucky Anjali, she has emerged by and large unscathed from this wreckage. If anything, she's got a makeover! From the wicked stepsister to our Cinderella, she is now being 'Jo" to Ridhima's " Meg" (Little Women).
And Dr Shashank? It must be nice to not have to be sensible, balanced and correct all the time, and, for a change be irrational, illogical and partisan. Wonderful to be finally able to connect at an emotional and intellectual level with your daughter?
Why, oh why, do I still continue to waste my time and hope for some salvation? Maybe because, at one time, it was dear to me, and, because through it, I connected with some wonderful people. So try as I might, I don't seem to be able to let go.
So while we continue to try and fathom the workings of the mind of the creatives, here's hoping that at least the introduction of the new Ridhima will bring back some focus to the story and restore a fraction of the old charm of DMG!! And that some of our optimism in continuing to watch the show would be rewarded.
I fervently hope so, cos at one time, this was one of my favourite shows!
P.S. Just a quick question to everyone moaning about SA. What about poor KSG? I remember seeing this forum being filled with dissection of his anatomy (poor chap), eulogies about his acting prowess, and swoons over his looks. Poor chap, for all the effort he has put into this soap, he's been completely forgotten. Must be a rather humbling experience for him. I suspect he's going to be throwing a tantrum soon!!
