Thank you very much! You know, the rituals of marriage presented in the serial are simply wonderful and the general meaning I've been able to find on the web, but this song, specially, got me goose bumps...I got some others, Har Har Mahadev, Shiv Tandav, etc. because if I got the lyrics (in hindi and english) maybe Ill be able to "learn hindi with music"!

By the way, how is it possible that there are so many indians who doesnt know almost anything about their culture, heritage, even their language šŸ˜• They dont know how fortunate they are, here in Brazil I couldnt find a translation of Shiva Purana, and ended with "Shiva Purana retold", that is not that complete...

Hello šŸ¤—welcome to the DKDM forums 😊

Saat means seven and Fera means rounds

In Sanatan Dharm marriages, you have to take marriage vows or oaths and they should be seven in numbers saat vachan vachan here is vows which bride and groom have to take during which groom fills bride's hair parting with red powder called sindoor and also puts on mangalsutra on bride's neck mangalsutra is a necklace to complete a marriage to make the bride his wife just like christians put a ring on the bride. Mangal is auspicious and sutra is thread.

After father has given his daughter's hand in the grooms hands that is called Kanya Daan Kanya meaning girl daan meaning donated. The priest recites some sanskrit mantras during the fire rituals which is called yagya where the fire is blowing and around it the groom and bride have to move around it. With each round, priest chant a vow in sanskrit and girl's brother hands over some rice puffs to the girl to be offered in fire to purify the vow and during these vows the groom puts on sindoor and mangalsutra on the bride. The moment these are done, they are husband and wife. Sometimes these are done after 5th phera and then the couple are married, sometimes it is done after 4th phere. but pheras have to be completed and 7 vows.

$ vows are taken by the groom and three vows by the girl first groom is required to take the three vows first grooms walk followed by the girl then the girl takes three vows here groom follows her then the last vow is taken by the groom and again the girl follows.

These vows includes taking care of family, relatives, taking care of each other both in happy times as well as bad times, taking care of wealth, health, children etc etc.

Hindu marriages has to be witnessed by all the relatives and other social elements such as neighbours relatives of the relatives friends all the people are important to witness this marriage as we believe in samagic vyavhaar samaaj is society vyavahar is behaviour or ways social ways but fire god is the main witness fire on yagya and vedic mantra has to be chanted to complete a marriage but in India this differs from community to community. Here millions of communities follow their own rituals and ways of life.

I have heard that hindi serials are hit there šŸ˜† in Brazil and many people are loving Indian culture especially Indian dances are loved by a lot of people. Hindi cinema and fashion are hit there. How nice it is 😃 Indeed georgraphical bouderies are shrinking day by day. There would come a time when people no longer would be called foreigners. This feels so nice. šŸ˜†

@ blue: How do you know that we don't? We have over 200 languages in usage in India. Most Indians are familiar with at least 2 / 3 languages. As far as customs and culture are concerned, they vary from region to region and each Indian would be familiar with the traditions of his native place.

Please don't make such sweeping statements.

If you have any specific questions- you are welcome to ask and our members here would be more that happy to reply you. It may take a day or two- though. We may be knowing the answer but too busy to put down in words. So be patient . You will get your reply eventually.

Exit Caution: While it is indeed heartening to know that you are watching Indian mythological serials, I would like to warn you that these serials are dramatized versions. They do not adhere 100 % to the puranas.

Can you give the links of the songs that you have mentioned. At least the episodes they were telecast.

The Shiva Tandava stotra- are you referring to the one that was sung by Ravana during his weightlifting attempt at Kailash?

@ red Varali may be she is talking about the Indians living in Brazil????? šŸ˜•

you are right, It is not possible to know each and every custom of each and every community and there are communities within community who follow their own rituals and traditions. That is the beauty of Sanatan Dharm civilization that people right from the beginning got liberty to do as they wished. Of course, keeping in mind societal norms and institutions. That is how today Hinduism is most liberal and tolerant šŸ‘ā¤ļø and evolved in fullest sense of a developed civilization but that does not mean it does not have it's own faults.

But then no society or civilization can be perfect.

I am really grateful for your replies but maybe didn't express clearly enough. No intention to criticize anyone, just stating an observation about some comments here in IF and some others around net, especially among young people... And yes, you have nearly 200 languages, but I was referring to the ability to read your classics like Kalidasa poetry in sanskrit (or hindi translations) only. And again yes, it's mainly the indian diaspora I am referring to - Brazilian and worldwide. I am sorry if I couldn't manage to convey to you all my thankfulness and admiration for your country and your traditions. Instead, it seems I hurt some of you; that was not my intention.

My comment had nothing to do, also, with replies to my question - as you can see, even I was able to answer your replies only today. But I will wait patiently (and search ferociously J on the web at the same time ) for the lyrics of this song and some other songs and mantras of the DKDM sound track.

"Exit Caution: While it is indeed heartening to know that you are watching Indian mythological serials, I would like to warn you that these serials are dramatized versions. They do not adhere 100 % to the puranas."

About the serial, yes, I am fully aware of the changes made in the original history - though I could not read the full Shiv Purana, there is an english version, abridged, of the 18 major puranas available online. But even dramatized versions ignite the interest for the real texts. It's a beginning!

"Can you give the links of the songs that you have mentioned. At least the episodes they were telecast. "

About the links, I was referring to the lyrics only. Got it searching the web, can't remember exactly where I found them. The music and videos I saw on the YouTube, just type the song name and you will find many versions (I cant post the links as I am a newbie on the forum, got error message). The episode of Har har Mahadev was telecasted at 20 february, I believe it was Shiva Ratri...

"The Shiva Tandava stotra- are you referring to the one that was sung by Ravana during his weightlifting attempt at Kailash?" Yes, I found the lyrics at some sites on the internet, just write Shiva tandava stotram lyrics in Google and you can find it. Its really beautiful...

Hi Pdamasc,

I am in the US and was introduced to the 10 CD pack of Devon ke Dev Mahadev about two months. I am totally consumed by the show and by Shiva!

I have bought the 10-CD pack (Amazon), and have probably watched a portion of just about every episode that has been broadcast. You can watch them on YouTube. Life Ok has a channel.

Also, you can find all the songs on YouTube. Go to the Life OK channel and simply search Mahadev Title Song and the lists of songs with videos will appear on your right. There is software available for downloading YouTubes or just the music from the YouTubes.

Also, the great folks who are part of this forum have posted Daily Updates from every show in addition to posting the day's episode (with English subtitles).

I have the words from the "Title Song". This is the music that is played when Shiva first appears and Sati sees him for the first time. When the words are sung they are:
Karpur Gauram: The one who is as pure as camphor (karpur)
Karuna Avatar: The avatar full of compassion
Sansara Saram: The one who is the essence of the world
Bhujagendra haram: The one with the serpent king as his garland
Sada vasantam: Always residing
Hridaya arvinde: In the lotus of the heart
Bhavam Bhavani: Oh Lord and Goddess (Sati: wife of Shiva ..or Parvati ?)
Sahitam Namami: I bow to you both.

BY THE WAY: Can anyone tell us what does Devon ke Dev mean?

BY THE WAY: Can anyone tell us what does Devon ke Dev mean?

Devon means devta dieties or Gods, ke means of, Dev is Diety or god, Maha means great or senior,

God of all Gods GreatGOd who is Shiv Shankar ji also known as Mahadev

Yes Mahadev is the most senior god his position is above all the gods
Both he and vishnuji are gods
rest of the dieties also known as Demi gods are dieties dev or devi

Devi is goddess or female diety

In west, Diva word which means goddess has come out of Devi but it is wrongly pronounced because the word is Devi not Diva
