Hi, it's ToolConfuser again, and today, we'll cover the remaining sides that are gonna be playing today. That would be BB, who are currently in Tripura Stadium, preparing for the warm-up for today's match, and DD, who host the Chandravanshis.

We first go to Amravati, where we join Minaxi, who is in the company of Indra. Minaxi, over to you!

M: Thank you, Tool. Here we are, in the beautiful Amravati Stadium, which has been in the center of controversy the last few days over whether asuras will be allowed here or not. I have w/ me the DD manager Prashuti, to discuss this.

Prashuti, why did the authorities here decide to ban asuras from coming, given not only that they are still part of the league, but that even you have some great asura players in your ranks, namely Mahishashur and Raktabheej?

Prashuti: Well, I can't speak for the authorities, but given that devas have been taking a beating from asuras so often, looks like they decided that enough is enough and decided to ban asuras from participating here.

As for us, Mahishashur & Raktabheej will be more useful in our away games, some of which have very pace friendly pitches. The one here is a spinning track, w/ lots of cracks in the wicket, so our strategy here will be heavily dependent on spin.

Indra: Yeah, we've made it so that we'd have an automatic home advantage. A lot of the other teams have made their homes impenetrable fortresses, and we plan to be no different. We have a great spin attack in myself, Sanaka and Banvanal. And we have a great death overs bowler in Yamaraj, who can reduce any team to whatever scores they have in over #16.

Yamaraj: Yeah, Amravati will be an Yamalok itself to any visiting team. Indra mentioned the death overs, but I will also be murdering the opposition bowlers as well, not just the batsmen.

M: How about the rest of the team strategy?

Lekha: Bhrigu will be our opening bat, anchoring the innings. As he said, Yamaraj will be the main rungetter after the powerplay overs. Amatya, Gautamshatru and Sanaka will be providing the balance of the support.

M: Thank you, Lekha, and back to you, Tool

Toolconfuser: Thank you, Minaxi. We now go back to Tripura, where we are re-joined by Sia, who you may recall, had brought us the AA preparations. Today, she joins the BBs, who in a few hours will be facing the Asuras in their opening contest away from home.

Sia: Yes, Tool. Yesterday, the BB team arrived here, and I have w/ me their captain, Dadhichi. Dadhichi, how have your preparations been for the cup?

Dadhichi: Well, we've had some pretty bold additions recently, and one of the greatest ones yet was the induction of Ravan into the team. Having the greatest Shiva bhakt in the side is a big asset. He has tremendous all round skills and can carry the side on his own.

Ravan: Thank you, Dadhichi. Yeah, Sia, I am the greatest cricketer around. Since this team consists mainly of tapaswis when it comes to local talent, they do need someone who knows how to bring them to victory. I am that person. With me, each of my heads are like the minds of 10 different team members. With me advising him as the vice captain, Rishi Dadhichi won't need inputs from anyone else.

Dadhichi: But, but...

Ravan: I am the teams best batsman and bowler - something like the Gary Sobers of T20. Or a Jacques Kallis. And a great mind to strategize. I plan to come up w/ all sorts of plans to outthink everyone else and land us w/ the cup.

Sia (struggling to get somone else to chip in): Trisiras, you just joined the team from Yamalok. How does it feel to be a part of this?

Ravan: Oh, don't listen to him. When I am here giving you my inputs, you don't need anyone elses, least of all this tuch tapaswi who got slaughtered by Indra. Now I would never get slaughtered by Indra. Nor by this asura lot that we face today either! In fact, did you know - I slew my own jiju, an asura, in battle. You think I can't make short work of this bunch? Watch me

Sia (by now, tired of Ravan, and wanting to end this): Thank you, Ravan, and back to you, Tool!

Hello, and welcome to the next edition of our special feature. Today, we have our special correspondent Shruti.Nil reporting from the pristine beauty of Kailash, where she joins the Glorious Ganas in their preparations for the tournament. Shruti, take it away from here.

S.N: Thank you, Vrish, and I am here today w/ a new up & coming star - dear Bappa! Hi, Bappa, how've you been finding it so far?

Bappa: It's fantastic, Shruti. The atmosphere has been absolutely perfect for some intense practice we've been having, and I've been busy at work making sure that we do what it takes to win this trophy.

S.N: So what have your own preparations been like?

Bappa: Due to my long reach, thanks to my trunk, as well as the fact that I have to stoop generally to talk to my Mushaks, captain Nandi thought that I'd be the ideal wicket keeper for this squad. This is a new role for me, but one that I'm determined to excel at. My goal is to eliminate the need for us to have any slip fielders at all, and give Nandi all the leeway to put all the other 9 fielders everywhere else on the field - mid-on, mid-off, extra cover, wherever. That should give our bowlers like Tarakasksh and Vayu all the field placings they need to take wickets.

S.N: You are also the vice captain of the team - to what extent have you been involved in the strategizing?

Bappa: For me, it's been a learning experience, as I mostly listen to what veterans like Nandi, Markandeya and Nataraj have to say, as well as our manager Sati and coach Jaya. I do hope to be able to bring in new ideas to the team so as to give us an edge over the competition

Nandi: Ganesh has been fantastic so far in all the roles he's been practicing for, not just keeping the stumps. His batting has been fantastic, so we hope to use him as a late finisher. Markandeya lends stability at the top of the batting, and Nataraj is a swashbuckling late order batsman. Mahakal is the team's top all-rounder, and along w/ Tarakaksh, heads up the pace bowling. Shilad lends some stability in the middle, while Shani has an intimidating effect on the opposition.

S.N: This is a great new stadium - what is the pitch like?

Sati: It is a very good track to bat on, and there are plenty of runs. As you know, the team owner Mahadev is fond of the shanshan, and this ground is a shanshan for bowlers - Yamaraj would envy it. Indeed, he once tried to get Markandeya out while he was batting, but Mahadev stopped him. So yeah, it's really a case of who can make the most runs and then defend it.

S.N: Okay, now for the great one himself, who joins us - devo ka dev, Mahadev. Prabhu, what do you feel about the chances of your team?

Mahadev: I feel calm. I don't have any moh attached to the success or the failure of the team - what is important here is the flourishing of the LPL, being as it is Parvati's pet dream. In fact, I do need to leave now to help her regain her memory before today's opening ceremony. So I'll catch up w/ you later.

S.N: Thank you, Prabhu. And that's all we have here. Over to a break, w/ our new sponsors, Nanborghini

AA wins opening match of the LPL

The first contest in the LPL - historic in its own right - set historic records that are unlikely to be matched for a while. Starting from the very first ball, the contest was off w/ a bang. Vidyunmali won the toss and selected to bat on a pitch that was reputed to be unhelpful to batsmen.

However, the very first ball of the match - Ravan bowling to Bhashmasura - went for a huge 6, marking the first Kubera Bank 6 of the tournament. Bhashmasura then hit a couple of more boundaries before changing ends, and that infuriated Ravan all the more, making him bowl fast but wayward. An outside nick on Rishi Atri just went past the hapless keeper Trisiras for 4, and the first over of the competition itself saw 22 runs come off it.

Dadhichi immediately took Ravan off the attack, but that didn't help things at all. Bhashmasura was on the rampage, dancing down the pitch and hitting boundaries w/ gay abandon. One of his 6's went into the stands and flattened the nose of Shoorpanakha, giving her one more reason other than Ravan's bowling performance to want to forget this match. Another 6 that Bhashmasura hit went and knocked Aditi's earrings off her ears.

It wasn't until after the Modelmodak timeout that BB had their first breakthrough. Dhoomralochan was brought in, and immediately spun a clever delivery that totally uprooted Rishi Atri's middle stump. Atri made 12 However, Vidyunmali came in next, and made sure to give Bhashmasura the bulk of the strike when the pacemen were operating, while himself taking on Dhoomralochan. The battle b/w Vidyunmali & Dhoomralochan was more of a contest than the one b/w Bhashmasura and the Brahman quickies.

Bhashmasura reached his century in the 10th over. He then contented himself w/ giving the bulk of the strike to Vidyunmali, who while not scoring 6s, did keep the runs flowing in 2s and 4s. Finally, in the 16th over, Vidyunmali fell to Vajrang, being beautifully stumped by Trishiras, after making a quickfire 54. By then, Bhashmasura had made his 150, and still going strong.

Ravan returned, and this time, it was even worse - Bhashmasura hit him for 36 runs in an over, leaving Ravan w/ 58 runs conceded in 2 overs. On the other end, Chakri, who was promoted in the order just to make sure that Bhashmasura got as much of the strike, contented himself w/ facing off the last of Dhoomralochan.

In the 19th over, Bhashmasura got to 200 - having beaten Brendan McCullum's record much earlier. In the 20th over, he ended up unbeaten w/ 212 runs. The AAs made a staggering total of 311 runs.

BB knew that they had no choice but to bring out all their big guns. Ravan opened the batting as well, and was out first ball to Bhashmasura, as he tried to loft him. But Jalandhar took an epic catch - jumping to get the ball infield, and then reentering the field and taking the catch.

Dadhichi decided to do one more gamble by sending in Agni at the fall of Ravan. Agni managed to hit a few boundaries, making it look like BB might have a go at it. However, on the other end, Jalandhar made a breakthrough in his first over - removing the other opener Kashyap for 14. Dadhichi realized that it was pretty much over and decided to come in and give themselves the best of the batting practice. However, he soon fell to Jalandhar, and now a procession started. Bhashmasura too got into the act, taking 2 more wickets. Things now got ugly for BB when Jalandhar removed Agni as well - the chase itself was over. Trisiras and Angira stabilized the batting a bit, albeit w/o scoring runs, but it just didn't work. Jalandhar and Bhashmasura both ended up w/ 5 wickets each, and BB was all out for 91, producing one of the widest victory margins that's unlikely to be broken.

Score Summary:

AA - 311-1

Bhashmasura - 212
Vidyunmali - 54
Chakri - 33

Dhoomralochan - 1/44

BB - 91 all out

Agni - 34
Trishiras - 22
Angira - 19

Jalandhar - 5/16
Bhashmasura - 5/27

CC pique DD to the finish

Charming Chandravanshis, who due to the match being held at Amravati were forced to leave out their asura talent, nonetheless turned things around to pull a thriller upset over the Devious Devas by the narrowest of margins.

Indra won the toss and chose to bat, gambling that a deteriorating wicket would cause the Chandravanshis problems. However, Nahusha pulled off a coup when in the first over, Sesha, who was opening the bowling in the absence of Nishumbha or Taare, took the prized scalp of Yama, putting paid to his plan of giving DD a brisk start.

Indra came in the next over, and Nahusha pulled off a brilliant plan. Knowing that Indra had practiced on combating his regular bowlers, he brought himself in. His first 2 deliveries were off the off side and let go by Indra, since they were a good line. He then added an extra slip fielder, but bowled a straight one, and Indra was trapped lbw for a duck.

From then on, the batting was all downhill for the devas. Sesha took advantage of the absence of Nishumbha & Taare to rattle the deva lineup. He first removed Bhrigu, followed by Banvanal and Amatya. On the other end, Nahusha put in the services of Bhrigni's spin, and he too started taking wickets. Before they knew it, the devas were all out for a triple Nelson - 111.

In order to make sure that the Chandravanshis had no trouble w/ this total, Nahusha decided to send Sukarna and Ashwin1 to open. The 2 of them gave CC a slow but steady start, and at the end of 8 overs, had put on 40 runs for the first wicket. After the first Modelmodak timeout, Indra sent in Sanaka to dismiss both the openers. However, from that point on, Nahusha & Bhrigni got together, and settled down and applied themselves. Both made particularly good use of sweeps and switch hits, so that when Yama came on, all they did was block him and see off his overs. Nonetheless, the devas managed to slow things down, and Nahusha & Bhrigni just managed to finish things in the 19th over, before Yamaraj had the chance to bowl the 20th.

DD - 111 all out

Bhrigu 33
Banvanal 28
Amatya 24

Sesha - 6/24
Bhrigni - 4/16

CC - 112-2

Nahusha - 36
Bhrigni - 28

Sanaka - 2/12

Man of the Match - Bhrigni

21.9.2 Where teams have an equal number of points their relative positions shall be determined by the following:

  • a. the team with the most wins in matches in the League during the season will be placed in the higher position;
  • b. if there are teams with equal points and equal wins during the season, then in such case the team with the higher net run rate (as calculated in clause 21.11 below) will be placed in the higher position;
  • c. if following the net run rate calculation above there are teams which are still equal, then the team with the higher number of wickets taken per balls bowled in the matches played that season in which results were achieved will be placed in the higher position;

21.11.2 In the event of a team being all out in less than its full quota of overs, the calculation of its net run rate shall be based on the full quota of overs to which it would have been entitled and not on the number of overs in which the team was dismissed.

21.11.3 Only those matches where results are achieved will count for the purpose of net run rate calculations. Where a match is abandoned, but a result is achieved under Duckworth/Lewis, for net run rate purposes, team 1 will be accredited with team 2's Par Score on abandonment off the same number of overs faced by team 2. Where a match is concluded but with Duckworth/Lewis having been applied at an earlier point in the match, team 1 will be accredited with 1 run less than the final Target Score for team 2 off the total number of overs allocated to team 2 to reach the target.

In our last edition, we had a look behind the scenes w/ both the Ganas, as well as the Prithvis. Today, we take a look at the remaining 2 sides in the tournament. Both of them are practicing at Ayodhya, all set for today's match. Our reporters Shadow.Daemon and Foram are covering them for the event.

We first join Shadow.Daemon, who is there w/ the SS camp. Shadow, who do you have w/ you?

Shadow.Daemon: Thank you, Vrish. I am here w/ Surya Dev, and we do have an announcement. Since Ikshvaku hasn't surfaced for this team, the management made a change and made Rama the captain of the team. I'm now joined by both of them. Raghunath, what have your preparations been like for this season?

Rama: We've had a good amount of practice, and a good opportunity to know each other. Hunda just joined us yesterday, and we are getting a chance to see how well he bowls. B/w Shumbha and Hunda, we have a great pace attack. Rishis Vaishistha and Garg give us the spin variety we need. In batting, we have Rishi Garg and Sanandana opening, and then I have good support along the way.

S.D: How has it been getting asuras and rishis together?

Rama: Not as tough as I imagined. We both have a common cause - to win the championship, and each of us is single minded about it. It is good to see everyone complementing each other in strength.

S.D: Devi Sachi, how has it been coaching this side? Also, what is this pitch gonna be like?

Sachi: Well, there hasn't been much to coach, since we're talking here about experienced, professional players. They have all been freely interacting and practicing, and it's been a very enjoyable experience.

About the pitch, since we have a good balance in the side, the pitch is a very good pitch as well - has everything in it for everyone - batsmen, pacemen and spinners. One does have to be good to get what one wants.

S.D: Shumbha, as the vice captain of this team, how have your strategy sessions been?

Shumbha: Great. Guru Vaishistha has been an integral part of it, given his vast knowledge & experience. Rama has been pretty good about taking everyone's suggestions, including the asuras. We are all raring to go.

S.D: Thank you, Shumbha. And now, we go over to Foram, who is covering the Vivacious Vaishnavs, who too are here in Ayodhya for their first game today. Foram, take it away.

Foram: Thank you, Shadow. I have here w/ me the team owner, Narayan, as well as the captain, Daksha. Narayan, how has it been w/ your new squad?

Vishnu: It's been great. We started off w/ some of my favorite bhakts, such as Daksha & Narada, and they were instrumental in building a team around it. I have great confidence in both of them in winning this for us.

Daksha: Yeah, Bhagvan Vishnu. As his favorite disciple, I am capable of putting together the most elaborate of plans, which are as elaborate as my yagnas. Narada here is the master of guile, and one of the best spin bowlers in the league. Our recent addition - Vibhishan, has some of the best insights into opposition strategies and is a key advisor as well, in addition to his skills as a wicket keeper.

Narada: Narayan, Narayan! It's not just me - there is the rest of the team as well. The skipper & Rishi Durvasa will be opening the batting, while rishis Kapila and Gautama will be lending stability to the batting in the middle. Munda and Varuna constitute our pace attack, while both Durvasa and Sanatana are aggressive batsmen. However, this will not be an easy campaign, but whatever we lack in skill, we can more than make up in outthinking the opposition and guile.

Munda: Of which Devarshi Narada is the master.

Foram: Thank you, all. And back to you, Vrish!

Sukhi,

Thanks. Actually, the Devas were favorites to win this one, but Nahusha managed a great upset. Commissioner Parvati would be proud of her damaat were she not above it all (aside from her memory loss)

Minaxi

Thanks. This is just the beginning. In any case, we have devas and asuras in all teams, although there is a shortage of devas in the show. But the next deva I get would hopefully be snapped up by AA, just like DD has Mahishashur and Raktabheej.

Anyway, today is the prized Kartikeya vs Ganesh contest on one hand, and Rama vs Vishnu on the other 😈 Stay tuned 😆
