OS: Love Meets or Not?
Part II: Aftermath
Her vision blurred due to the heavy rain pouring down on her. She fell on the soft grass, which had become a puddle due to the downpour, and the world around her went black. Everything around was dark and she was lonely for a very long time. The veil of darkness surrounding her seemed to overcome her and never let go. Someone was calling her name "Manyata, open your eyes" the voice seemed urgent but the voice seemed to fade away.
One side of her urged her to break the deep slumber but other part of her resisted to ever wake up. She didn't want to as she was in peace now. No thoughts were running on her mind and she felt her soul, her mind, going away far from her body. She did not once object and allowed the sleep to overcome her, only that she knew that once she gave in, she would not wake up ever again.
"Princess, please try..." someone sobbed. There was more sobbing except that others too joined the previous one.
"Please don't cry." she tried to speak but no words came out of her mind. She felt her throat go dry.
The continuous sobbing weakened her previous resolution. Now she wanted to wake up. She wanted to caress the face of her loved ones and say that nothing has happened to her. She tried to wake up but couldn't. Sleep drifted in and she couldn't even protest.
"I should probably leave, your Majesty," Uday said his head bowed to the king of Devgadh.
"We can't lose faith on her, Beta. Although, the Bedis (Doctors) have lost all their hopes, we can't. And most importantly, you can't." the King said sternly.
"I won't, I never will. But I can't see her worsening condition when I know that all this is my fault."
"No prince. It's not your fault. Neither it's hers. I fully understand your father objections to your marriage with Manyata as we are not well off like the Raigadhs."
"You have a big heart, your highness." Uday said his eyes meeting the old ones. "Being fully aware that I am no longer the heir to the throne, you do not hold me responsible for your daughter's state and instead want me to marry her after she will be fine."
"Son, though Devgadh is not one of the powerful states, we the people of Devgadhs know the true depth of love. And it's definitely true love that I see in your eyes for my daughter. Besides, what you have done today by saving Manyata. By bringing her back to the palace, you have proven yourself worthy for my daughter."
Uday sighed. "Though you have forgiven me, I'll never forgive myself. I'll never forgive myself for what I did to her. The guilt inside me that I almost killed her will not subside and let me to be with her. So I am departing, your Majesty."
The spasm in her head subsided and the darkness which had engulfed her seemed to go away. Her eyes opened slowly and accordingly. She woke up in a familiar room. The room which belonged to her since her childhood, the room which she woke up early in the morning every day.
"Rise and shine, sleeping beauty" Jainandini said. She looked old in contrast to her age. The beautiful and the heart stealer of many princes, Jainandini did not look herself. Her eyes swollen and dark circle around her eye, her hairs matted and interlocked as if not combed for years and worry evident in her face, no one could believe that she was the same diva princess.
"Jiji, thinking about your prince charming huh? Yeah, but if the prince is handsome and loves you more than his life than it's obvious for the princess to dream about him."
"What, Uday was here? But how..and why...he was about to wed..???" she croaked feeling uneasiness in her throat.
"Don't you believe at your love?" Jay said playfully and recited the whole incident she had missed out. She gave her detail about how they hadn't find her, how they had arranged a search party for her, how a moments later a drenched Uday had arrived searching for her, how he had gone out in the cruel rain to search for her, how he had brought her back to the palace and how he had remained at her side throughout her sleep never leaving her side.
"You know Jiji. Uday has been seized the title of Yuvraaj. He probably left his kingdom and wedding for you. So instead of him, his brother, Yuvraaj Raghveer is marrying YuvraaniMinakshi. It is probably taking place today.
Manyata had remained silent throughout the confession.
What am I too think? He brutally broke my heart when I confessed my love to him and now suddenly he left everything for me. This doesn't make sense to me. What should I consider he loves me or not? "Where is he...I mean Uday now?" her voice sounding softer and more real than the previous time.
"He's with father discussing about something. Wait a minute I'll call them." She rushed out of the room to give the news that Manyata had woken up at last.
Manyata waited for what seemed like ages for her father, her mother and mosly Uday to come.
The door flung open and there stood her father, her mother and Jainandini. Her eyes did a quick scan for Uday but her heart ached when she didn't see him.
King Brijraj and Queen Komal slowly sat at her side of the bed while Jay stood up.
Komal patted her head and hugged her while Brijraj watched her child searching for something, or rather someone.
"Who are you searching for, my love?"
"Father, you know who it is."
He remained silent for sometimes. Probably searching for the right words to explain it to her "He's gone my child, he's gone. He said that he loves you dearly but he cannot be with you. It's for your own good."
"Who is he to decide what is good for me? Why didn't you stop him, father?" Manyata reprimanded.
"It's his own will to leave you and I can do nothing to alter it."
Manyata stood up determined "Father I am going to find him."
Komal interjected "Manyata, you are sick and you are not in a state of finding him or leaving the palace."
But without listening to what was being said she ran. She ran like she hadn't been sick, she ran with the determination that she wouldn't lose her love once again.
"Ramsingh, please prepare my ride." she ordered to the stable boy.
"But...you are..." he objected
"I am still the Yuvraani of this palace, Ramsingh. Do not make me regret afterwards for the decision I make now."
Who could object the commanding voice of the Yuvraani. He did as he was told and saddled Toofan, the mare which Manyata usually rode. Manyata mounted Toofan and galloped away in search of her prince.
She felt the wind rush to her face. She had never felt so alive and especially after the long nap she needed this to refresh herself.
He got to be there. He got to be there. She chanted in her mind like some mantra to soothe her heart from thudding and to put away negative thought of what if he was not there.
He was standing at the meadow, up above the hill. The favorite meeting spot of theirs, the place where he had found his princess pale and in the verge of dying. This was the last time he was visiting the place as after this, he would leave Devgadh, he would leave Jaigadh never coming back to any of these places.
He looked down to where the magnificent palace, which once was his, decorated for the marriage of Yuvraaj Raghveer and Yuvraani Minakshi. He always knew that Minakshi preferred the company of Raghveer more than him and although Raghveer had said nothing to him, he knew that his brother was in love and that too with his bride then. He had seen the glint in his eyes whenever he talked about Minakshi. He had not agreed to marry her or be the Yuvraaj but it had taken a lot of persuasion from Uday's side to make him accept. Of course Minakshi had accepted Raghveer as her groom at once. The presence of previous heir was anticipated but the couple had to be disappointed when they received a letter from Udayveer rather than him this very morning.
Udayveer was so engrossed in his thoughts that he failed to hear the tapping of the horse coming to the direction he was standing.
The sound stopped and the rider probably dismounted from the horse.
A silence followed and Udayveer heard his name being called. "Udayveer" a female voice called his name.
Hearing the familiar voice, he turned around only to see Manyata, his princess; fear, dejection, love and relief discernible in her fair face at once.
"How dare you leave me?" she asked her furiously, her eyes brimming with fresh tears, and her hand hitting the muscular chest of Udayveer.
"Princess, please calm down. And what are you doing here. Did you come here riding at that?" He eyed the black mare which Manyata had ridden.
Manyata was in no mood in hearing at what Uday had said and kept on her ranting.
"Princess..." Udayveer literally shouted trying to attract the attention of Manyata. Manyata stopped speaking.
He slowly lifted her face to meet up his own. The tears which had fallen from her eyes, he slowly wiped it. "Princess, why...why do you love me so much? After what ...what I have done to you, you should detest me. Yet you are here...you are here for me?" he said his voice stuttering, unable to depict the havoc that has clouded his mind and heart.
"I love you, Uday. But what about you? I know you have never told me that you love me, but I know what's in your heart. I know that you love me too..."
"Manyata..." but he was interrupted when her soft lips met his hard one. He was shocked, shocked beyond words. But feeling the touch of the lips which he craved for so long, he forgot what he was about to say and rather concentrated on the kiss. When he kissed her, all the fear which he had in his mind was slowly fading. That was the moment when he knew that not only Manyata, but he himself could not imagine his life without her. Manyata kissed him with all her might, her fingers locked around his neck. With the same passion he was returning her the favor, his hands on her slender waist. They finally broke away, both of them left breathless.
He suddenly left her waist. Will he leave me again? Fear slowly crept in on Manyata.
Instead, he knelt down and plucked the wild flowers that was growing in the meadow and bundled it. "Yuvraani Manyata Kumari Chauhan, I, Udayveer Singh love you to the extent of my heart and want you to be mine forever and ever. Would you do me the honor by marrying me?"
Fresh tears threatened to flow through her eyes but she managed to say "Yes" and take the flower.
"Don't you dare let them fall, princess, or I know how to cheer my queen's spirit." Uday said getting up, a smirk adorning his face.
"I love you and don't you even think of leaving me again." She embraced him.
"I love you too, princess. I love you too."
THE END
