OS: Love Meets or Not??
Part I: The Happening
The rain was harsh. The raindrops coming down with a gust of wind drenched her slender body. Her long brown hair was matted due to the rain. Her face was pale and white due to the chilly cold atmosphere.
She was there for a long time watching the castle that was far down being decorated. Standing here alone, the rain water soaking her, in the meadow, up above the hill, she remembered all the beautiful memories that she shared with him. This used to be their favorite place once. They used to meet here and lie in the grass, chatting about things for hours.
But time changes everything. Guess he had moved on, leaving her behind. She stood here all alone, while he was down there busy preparing for his marriage. Yes, her heart was going far from her and there was nothing she could do except stare.
"Manyata", he had said in his husky voice. But to her, her name sounded much more alive, much more beautiful when it escaped through his lips.
And just like that she hugged him, not letting go. She did not feel right, she had not been feeling right about the meeting since morning. Earlier, when they were to meet, her heart would wait for the moment. But nothing such as that, she felt today. Her heart had screamed to her to return back.
And now when she was embracing him, like other times, he did not hugged her back. She immediately sensed something was wrong and backed out only to find a cold pair of eyes staring at her.
"Manyata, I am here to have a serious talk with you."
"Uday, I am listening."
"I am marrying the Yuvrani of Raigadh, Minakshi."
Manyata knew he was joking. He must be joking. It can't happen. She loved him and he loved her. That was what she believed but his dark and emotionless eyes told another story of its own.
"Uday...stop joking. I don't like it at all."
"Manyata, believe it or not. I don't care. But I am serious."
Manyata tried her best to convince him. She was sure he was joking.
She caressed his face "Uday, please. I love you and you too love me, right"
But her hand was rudely brushed off by Uday " Princess Manyata, please I am the fianc of Yuvrani Minakshi. So please don't try to seduce me. And regarding the so called love. You love me. But how can you say the same about me. I have never told you that I love you"
Manyata tried hard. She tried to remember their conservation. But to her dismay, he was correct. On many occasions, she had confessed his love to him but he had not. Not once had he told her that he loved him.
"Now, please excuse me. Minakshi might be waiting for me." he spoke in the same cold tone.
And he went. She was there frozen at the spot, staring at his back leaving the place. After he was gone, she fell down to her knees. Unknown to her, teardrops was falling from her eyes.
"Uday, you can't leave me." she cried to the empty hills.
Reminiscing old memories, unknown to herself, she had started crying. The teardrops rolled down her cheeks and vanished into the rain.
Minakshi was the heir to the most powerful kingdom of the entire nation. And there was a rumour that Uday had agreed to marry Minakshi to gain her wealth and make his nation more powerful than anyone can imagine.
With a hoarse voice, Manyata spoke out loud" Uday, you used me. Our love was not enough. Seems like wealth won over love."
Her body could no longer withstand the rain. And so she fainted.
In the Devgadh palace, her parents were worried. Worried that their elder daughter was not in the palace and the weather was not in a good condition outside. Search party was immediately summoned upon to find the princess by the king.
Uday stood there, staring at the beauty of the rain. The raindrops falling from somewhere in the sky. What would be she doing? He wondered. You know I just love the rain. He remembered.
His father's voice muffled to his ears, he continued to stare at the raindrops.
"Uday, are you even listening to me?"
"Yes, Dad I am."
" Then I guess you heard what I said. No more thinking about that Manyata. You are to be the king of Raigadh and faster you acknowledge it, the better and remember the wedding is going to place tomorrow no matter what you say."
The sound of the thunder was heard, loud and clear.
"Looks like even the Lord does not want me to marry her." Uday said staring at the sky.
"Beta, please don't be ignorant. Loving Manyata gives you nothing. Their kingdom is in the verge of breakdown. But on the other hand, marrying Minakshi makes your riyasat strong."
I love you, Uday. I really do and I would rather die than living without you. Her voice echoed in his mind.
"Dad, I need to go. I don't want to marry anyone except Manyata."
He hastened towards the doors.
"One step more and I'll make your brother the Yuvraj"
"Dad, please. Let me go. I don't want to be the Yuvraj if she isn't there with me."
And he left behind a speechless Griraj. He rushed to meet his princess. His princess might be angry with him. More than angry she might be hurt. But he knew how to convince her. With these thoughts in his mind, he rode in his horse smiling to himself, ignoring the rain and leaving behind the decorated palace itself with no groom for the wedding to take place.
