Aruna Irani wins the Lifetime Achievement Filmfare Award
Caravan costar Jeetendra awarded Aruna Irani the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 57th Idea Filmfare Awards.
Popular actress Aruna Irani who has been a part of the Indian film industry for 51 years now was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 57th Idea Filmfare Awards. Jeetendra, her costar from the superhit film Caravan presented her the trophy.
Aruna Irani made her acting debut at the young age of 9 years playing a child actress in Dilip Kumar's Ganga Jamna (1961). She played the female lead opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Mehra in films like Bombay to Goa and Do Phool respectively. But her biggest claim to fame was the super-hit Caravan where she played a role with negative shades.
After that she was seen in a spate of supporting actress and vamp roles. In the 90s, she graduated to playing motherly characters with her most prominent performance being in Anil Kapoor - Madhuri Dixit starrer Beta (1992) that got her, her second Filmfare trophy. She won theFilmfare Award for the first time in 1985 for Pet Pyaar Aur Paap.
Other than Hindi films, Aruna Irani also worked in Gujarati and Marathi films where she played the female lead. She also worked in the Kannada remake of Beta playing the same character like in the Hindi. Some of her prominent Hindi films include Bobby, Prem Nagar, Roti Kapda aur Makaan, Khel Khel Mein, Laila Majnu, Karz, Rocky, Dil To Pagal Hai and Haseena Maan Jayegi.
In early 2000, Aruna Irani shifted her focus to television and produced TV serials like Mehendi Tere Naam Ki and Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand. She is presently seen in the TV show Dekha Ek Khwab on Sony TV.
