Japan: Woman living in man's closet held

30 May 2008, 1815 hrs IST,AP
TOKYO: A homeless woman who sneaked into a man's house and lived undetected in his closet for a year was arrested in Japan after he became suspicious when food mysteriously began disappearing.

Police found the 58-year-old woman on Thursday hiding in the top compartment of the man's closet and arrested her for trespassing, police spokesman Hiroki Itakura from southern Kasuya town said on Friday.

The resident of the home installed security cameras that transmitted images to his mobile phone after becoming puzzled by food disappearing from his kitchen over the past several months.

One of the cameras captured someone moving inside his home on Thursday after he had left, and he called police believing it was a burglar. However, when they arrived they found the door locked and all windows closed.

"We searched the house ... checking everywhere someone could possibly hide," Itakura said. "When we slid open the shelf closet, there she was, nervously curled up on her side."

The woman told police she had no place to live and first sneaked into the man's house about a year ago when he left it unlocked.

She had moved a mattress into the small closet space and even took showers, Itakura said, calling the woman "neat and clean."

-What do you think about this article?
-Do you think it is possible to not notice someone else living, eating, and bathing in your house for one full year?
-Do you think a woman would have noticed the intruder lot early than this man did😉😆
-Do you think the intruder would have been detected earlier if they happen to be a man😆
-Why are men so dense anyways😛...okie....j/k here😆. This is not part of the debate😆

For men yes! You see since we are always very trusting, and since we do everthing in the open we expect the same from others.

Yes! For sure a woman would have noticed much sooner, after all women are very nosey
-Do you think the intruder would have been detected earlier if they happen to be a man😆
Probably so, since he would have inadvertantly taken the TV remote.👍🏼

If a Wal-Mart store cannot catch a woman living there, what is one person. Many single working people tend to spend very little time at their house leaving home early and coming late tired and crashing. They rarely notice whats going on in the house.

Yes simply because women are paranoid freaks of nature when it comes to their closets.Although a man like Danny Tanner would have beaten the average woman in catching the intruder. What I wonder is where did this intruder get her feminine hygiene products in a mans house?

-Do you think the intruder would have been detected earlier if they happen to be a man😆
Perhaps, most men have a harder time being absolutely clean, putting everything back etc. They are programmed to make their presence felt, they probably would hurt their egos if unnoticed for that long. Again some women are slobs too....and Danny Tanner could easily pull this off.

The same reason why women can be lightheaded and airy
