I accept that every situation requires different level of understanding and different priorities...

But now this situation: U cannot leave your kid alone at home.. Kid is suffering from high fever... U have to deliver something that day and you are the team leader... All your friends have failed to help you.. Husband is out of town... You cannot take the kid along with you as its too cold outside... What would you choose??

There are certain situations where you cannot set the priorities and provide the balance... This is what I feel and that time you need to choose between the two...

I'll try and answer this 😊

If you have planned, and executed the plan well, then you should have completed the work before the deadline. In that case, you don't have to worry about delivering the goods! You will also have planned for someone to fill-in in the case of an emergency. All you have to do then is call, explain your situation and let your appointed 2IC take over. 😊

this situation seems far fetched and truly once in a lifetime if it ever occurs...no spouse, family, or friends available to help u out...child sick on the same day when an ultra imp. decision is to be made. 😆 well, u can always throw in some money and hire a nurse...if u HAVE to be at your job no matter what...which is seldom the case in most fields.

chalo, maan bhi ley, then very first option is using technology to ur best advantage. in today's technology age, there's v littel u can't achieve with tunneling thru VPN and/or phone conference. really do not see the need of being there physically and leaving the child alone.

second, don't know whether u r aware of it or not, here in US there are back-up childcares who take in sick kids as well. Our company has a contract with one such day care. if ur job is "life saving" and numerous lives r depending on u showing to work...need i say which option one shd be choosing here😊

that said, the decision will definitely be based on whether my job is "life saving" or not. i really wouldn't sweat on a report getting delayed by a day or two and i know my VP won't either provided this is not happening every month😆

bottomline...what wld one do if they r the bread-winner for the family and find themselves in this situation? can they afford to quit and stay with the child and then later hunt for the job again? like i said before...don't see this extreme situation happening way too often. i am sure ur employer will work with u if it is a remote occurence.

we can get really creative here just for the heck of debating and come up with scenarios that don't even happen in premchand's novels....the sky falling down all of a sudden...nothing working in ur favor.....but how often such extremes happen? i have yet to face one😊

laut phir ker baat waheen aatee hai - u set your priorities and find ur balance😊

You is welcome 😆🤗.

Anuradha, my job is such that 4 exams will not be held if I don't complete them well in advance. We usually set 2 deadlines - to account for any unforeseen circumstances - and we still have enough time between making the exam and giving the exam.

Not read Views, 😳

But,

I don't see why a balance can not be given to both. Work is important also for women but NOT at the expense of family life suffering. 😳

Balnce should be strike so that after working a hard day, kids are home and you don't yell at them as you are so stressed and they feel you have no time for them.

Priority, if in relationship, with hubby working, kids should take priority, at young age they need their parents and frankly i wouldnt want my kids turning to me one day saying you were never there for me when i needed you most. 😳

If single parent, am sure employer can see your situation if there was no one else to look after kid. 😳 as i am sure not everyone can afford to hire babysitter full time or stick kids in a day care 😉 and if child is ill anyway, a child care centre/play group would have sent them home anyways. 😳

but my question here is can u only set the exams in school? can't u use technology to ur advantage, tunnel in to the school's network, and set ur exams from home if need arises😊

see, if u r a doctor and there's an emergency life saving surgery and u HAVE to perform this surgery...then u r somewhat scr**ed...still u can use a back up for ur child, even if means paying a nurse to come and take care of the child. but such "life saving" scenarios r there in hardly 1% of the jobs. for rest, u can still very well manage😊

Can be done in dire emergencies, but is avoided because of security concerns. 😊 But you are right - these days there are 'n' number of options available. And employers are not the hard-hearted villains they are made out to be 😃

This is the exact sitution I faced yeasterday, no body is here in home then I opt for my kid, it is my first priority, I entrusted my duties to one of my friends and informed the same to my superior.I will face the outcome whatever it may be, no other option..

In this case no scope for balancing, it is the priority, it is my kid..
