Tatas' unveil Rs 1-lakh car

Mumbai: Tata Motors' Chairman Ratan Tata on Thursday unveiled the Rs 1-lakh car at the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi. The People's car has been named Nano.
The small car would be produced at the Singur plant in West Bengal. It would be commercially launched in the second half of 2008. "The car is powered by a 624cc, 30 bhp engine. The car will deliver about 20 kmpl mileage," Ratan Tata, said at the launch function.

Tata Motors plans to launch the car in Africa, Latin America and also in SE Asia

**********************

Other players are launching cars in the same price segment... the car is supposed to target low- mid income group who aspire to be car owners or want to switch from 2 wheelers to cars..

but do Indian roads need more cars...is our infrastructure strong enough to support more vehicles...

what about air pollution? and wont petrol prices be affected in the long run due to the increased demand?

Why cant Tata and Bajaj join hands to bring out public transport vehicles which run on alternate fuels?

or is it wrong to deny the Indian masses an affordable and comfortable private mode of transport...

whats your take?

I don't know about the Indian Public, but I certainly could use that car with the high milage for under $5K here in the U.S. It is just the perfect little thing to run around town doing all the weekend honey do's.😉

Tata is claiming that it will sell this small car about 4 times more than its current small segment car Indica... And this, they must be saying after some market research...

I think the initial demand for the car may be very high.. whether that will sustain or not will entirely depend on how the car performs against what is being promised!

On pollution Mr.Tata said in news interview on TV, won't create more pollution then AutoRic or two wheleers.

Evident that it will create some, already imagine this cheap car is gonna get flooded in India, more chaos and nightmares on road. Though prety cool concept specially for ladies, instead of one big car buy 7 with diffferent colors, match dress color and pick which one you gonna drive today.😆 😆

😆 Hey Raj, sometimes outfits costs more then this car these days. 😆

Saw the car on Tv . looks like Indians can have their very own Autorickshaw.😛 Wonder what's gonna happen to auto drivers in business. 😕 it's gonna be a huge mess traffic wise which is in bad shape already.

Yes Yes Yes!

First Bajaj Lite and now Tata Nano...Indian vehicle makers have finally taken that giant step forward. They have done something out of the box. Maruti and Hyundai must be scared like s**t now.😆 Now more people 'll be able to afford a car.

There is nothing much different.. The body of the car is weightless and thats why the car costs less.. There is no safety.. But still people would go for it!!

Like Use and throw pens, now we have use and throw cars 😉 Im sure they will have no resale value 😆

Give one lac, get the car, use it for an year or two and give it to the tin wala 😆

Good investment i guess 😳
