Becuase nature is god, Hindu's ((i am a hindu and a believer of god) believe nature ( Nature=Prakrithi = Parasakthi) as the godess.

Madam, there is a book called "Devi Mahatmyam", it is written in sanskrit, i don't know if it is translated in English, please read this book.

Ardhanaareeswar=Lord Siva, Para Brahma= Prakruti+Purush =Sakthi+Siva is concept in Hindu religion.

Please read Devibhagavatham and devi mahatmyam to know about devi.I don't know English translation available. It is in Sanskrit. Malayalam is also available.

It is another concept in India is mother earth, ie., considering earth as mother and devi, (Bhoomi devi in malayalam) because most of the things necessary for human life is given by earth..

Energy and light receiving from sun is basic of life in earth, in that concept sun is a god, it is also a Hindu concept .

@ qwertyesque, Adi Sankara had written Saundaryalahari, it is about the Parasakthi, the devi.
