Mr.Prime Minister must apologise to the nation. Unko maafi maangni chahiye, he should realise what his govt has done. Sanatan dharma ki janmbhoomi mein hi Sanatan dharma ki aastha par vaar hua hai...shameful! The Minister (Ambika Soni) whose ministry filed the affidavit must resign.

Paisa hi sab kuchh nahin hota. We must preserve our history and heritage at all costs. BTW, even the economic benefits from project are doubtful...

http://www.zeenews.com/znnew/articles.asp?aid=394516&sid =NAT&sname=&news=Factbox:%20The%20divide%20over%20th e%20bridge

The pros

The project is expected to save about a USD 5 mn/year (bas, itna to har roz curruption mein jaata hoga paisa) in fuel savings Though forex saving estimates are not available, they would be over and above the USD 5 mn/year mentioned above.

The cons
The project may become uneconomical what with the construction costs touching USD 550 mn. The project may be ecologically harmful due to large scale sedimentation witnessed in this region of the ocean. Yet untouched marine life and coral reefs can also be damaged. NASA's statement says the bridge's unique curvature and composition by age reveals that it is man-made so the bridge may be of historical value though the government denies it. The project may also be endangered by Tsunamis, known to occur in this region.
  • It will make the waters international and might be a threat to national security.

If ecomonics is everything for the govt then why didn't they allow an underground link road beneath Humayun's Tomb? Why was the Metro Route in Delhi was diverted as the original route was close to Qutub Minar.

    See this...

    Link

New Delhi: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has cancelled the construction of the controversial tunnel road linking NH-24 bypass to Lodhi Road as it was seen as a threat to the Humayun's tomb, a World Heritage Site.

The ASI had earlier granted a no objection certificate (NOC) to the Delhi Government for the construction of the tunnel - a link between NH-24 and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. It has now withdrawn the permission, said tourism ministry sources.

    Construction

According to the sources, C. Babu Rajeev, director general of ASI, wrote to Delhi Chief Secretary Narayan Swamy saying that the government should not go ahead with the construction work as proposed.
The 2.6 km corridor was expected to come up a few 100 metres from Mughal Emperor Humayun's tomb and its purpose was to ferry sportspersons for the Commonwealth games in 2010. Town planners and heritage experts said that the tunnel road would weaken the base of the tomb. ~~~~~~~~

If some monuments of invaders can be saved I don't understand why the revered symbols of Hinduism can not be preserved. And why are the environmentalists so quite....I am not surprised though.

I was on TOI comments desk, and here is an interesting comment from one of the readers and my comments are somewhat similar so thought of just quoting him:

    Sudhir.S,Kammagondanahalli,says:
Shut down all of Lord Ram temples. Stop worshiping Sri Ram. Ban all festivals celebrated in his honour. Issue a fatwa against the films, serials and books glorifying this Lord almighty. Please do all this because the central government in its exalted knowledge has declared that there is no Ram! So when there is no Ram, there cannot be a Vishnu, the source of Ram's incarnation. And since there is no Vishnu, then all the Vedas, Vedanta, Upanishads and Gita have to be bogus, as Vishnu is the essence of all the Puranas. Then our Sanatana dharma, which is directed by these scriptures, must be a sham, and all followers of this dharma must be ignorant pagans worshiping non existent fictional characters. For this crime, we the Hindus need to be thrown out of this country and Hindustan must be renamed. I have a suggestion, how would 'Italianistan' suit! And all of this simply because Sri Ram forgot to give the proof of his existence to our enlightened 'leaders' and committee members, what a pity! I pray to Lord Rama to give his darshan to our 'leaders'.

vt to withdraw objectionable parts of Ram Setu affidavit

Facing a saffron onslaught, government on Thursday decided to withdraw the "objectionable" paragraphs of the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court questioning the existence of Lord Rama or other characters in the epic Ramayana.

After a quick intervention by Congress President Sonia Gandhi in a damage-control exercise, Law Minister HR Bhardwaj announced at a hurriedly-called press conference that the averments in the objectionable paragraphs will be withdrawn.

"We are filing a supplementary affidavit tomorrow in the Supreme Court," he said, a day after the Archaeological Survey of India told the apex court that there was no historical and scientific evidence to establish the existence of Lord Rama or the other characters in Ramayana.

The affidavit came under immediate attack from the Sangh Parivar, including the BJP which called it "blasphemous". Senior BJP leader LK Advani met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and also Bhardwaj at a dinner meeting last night and had told them "the highly objectionable affidavit be withdrawn."

Highly placed sources said Gandhi directed the government to take "immediate remedial steps" to set right the situation.

Lord Rama is an integral part of Indian culture and ethos and cannot be a matter of debate, Bhardwaj said.

Asked what clarification did the government planned to make, the minister said "this is in regard to our averment in the affidavit that there is no evidence that these characters of our scriptures did exist."

"This is a wrong impression," Bhardwaj said referring to the media reports on the affidavit.

Raksha, the quote is so right.
Deepak. I am amazed too that why these environmist are quite???
What surprises me more taht the Govt knows touching our religious faith is very sensible. We all worship Lord Rama and yet they make such statments. they should stop pilgrimage to Mt Kailash where china benefits from our devotees. All our sacred places as really there is no proof of such existence.
Some shame less creatures we have in our owm ministry 🤢

Pictures taken by NASA [National Aeronautics & Space Administration], USA from space show the remains of what appears to be an ages old man-made bridge between Rameshwaram and Sri Lanka. According to Hindu scriptures and belief, Lord Ram and his vaanar sena had built a bridge from Rameshwaram to Sri Lanka about 17 lacs 25 thousands years ago. The discovery of Shri Ram Setu by NASA confirms that Hindu scriptures and belief are correct in this matter and that Ramayana is 'history' and not "mythology" as is often construed

Check the URL..this has video of Ram setu too

Technically correct but extremely misplaced statement. It should be reserved for academic discussions only. The government of any nation should be more sympathetic towards the feelings of the citizens esp when the nation is as religiously rich and volatile as India. Dumb, to be brutally honest. 👎🏼

As for the Ramayana, in an academic setting one can hope to discuss that it is a myth possibly based on historical events. Politics is not the place for this. Mix religion and politics and you are calling for disaster.

Well, that's highly debatable and perhaps another topic altogether...

^ Just for clarification, I was specifically referring to this part of the statement (bolded and underlined):
Referring to the Ramayana, the affidavit said there is no "historical record" to incontrovertibly prove the existence of the character, or the occurrences of the events, depicted therein.
(emphasis on "incontrovertibly prove")

It is a another topic I agree and let's leave it that way. 😊
