The pros
The project is expected to save about a
USD 5 mn/year (bas, itna to har roz curruption mein jaata hoga paisa) in fuel savings Though forex saving estimates are not available, they would be over and above the USD 5 mn/year mentioned above.
The cons The project may become uneconomical what with the construction costs touching USD 550 mn. The project may be ecologically harmful due to large scale sedimentation witnessed in this region of the ocean. Yet untouched marine life and coral reefs can also be damaged. NASA's statement says the bridge's unique curvature and composition by age reveals that it is man-made so the bridge may be of historical value though the government denies it. The project may also be endangered by Tsunamis, known to occur in this region.
It will make the waters international and might be a threat to national security. ~~~~~~~~
If ecomonics is everything for the govt then why didn't they allow an underground link road beneath Humayun's Tomb? Why was the Metro Route in Delhi was diverted as the original route was close to Qutub Minar.

New Delhi: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has cancelled the construction of the controversial tunnel road linking NH-24 bypass to Lodhi Road as it was seen as a threat to the Humayun's tomb, a World Heritage Site.
The ASI had earlier granted a no objection certificate (NOC) to the Delhi Government for the construction of the tunnel - a link between NH-24 and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. It has now withdrawn the permission, said tourism ministry sources.
Construction
According to the sources, C. Babu Rajeev, director general of ASI, wrote to Delhi Chief Secretary Narayan Swamy saying that the government should not go ahead with the construction work as proposed.
The 2.6 km corridor was expected to come up a few 100 metres from Mughal Emperor Humayun's tomb and its purpose was to ferry sportspersons for the Commonwealth games in 2010. Town planners and heritage experts said that the tunnel road would weaken the base of the tomb. ~~~~~~~~
If some monuments of invaders can be saved I don't understand why the revered symbols of Hinduism can not be preserved. And why are the environmentalists so quite....I am not surprised though.
