People ignore Kangana and speak up against her but the govt and media doesn't care. I don't think the media would care if they were boycotted by celebs.

They are utterly shameless.

I agree that defamation cases should be used more often. Salman Khan took legal action against KRK and the guy is supposedly no longer allowed to talk directly about him. I don't understand why Hrithik wouldn't have taken the same route long back. Slander is a crime but perhaps not everyone has grounds to fight such a legal case and win it I suppose. Hrithik was complaining about media reporting Kangana's "lies" but it rings hollow when he won't take her to court over it. He threatened to but he did everything else except for that. He had demanded an apology from her in a legal notice. A court could have made her apologise if she was found guilty.

Deepika is free to go wherever and to a protest and people on social media and media can also react however. They do the same even with her depression and so on. However, there were allegations of Deepika being paid to go to that protest. Deepika didn't clear her name or sue anybody over it.

Some of the earlier incidents of hounding celebs were done by the various smaller regional parties like MNS and Karni Sena, and Shiv Sena even. They had set the precedent actually I think. There was nasty rhetoric from some BJP ministers as well.

With the NCB, if somebody had spoken up or taken legal action earlier, it wouldn't have gotten this far IMO. Like had Nawab Malik fought back legally when it happened with his relative, or had Deepika and other celebs taken some action against the NCB if there had been any extortion attempt. They may not have wanted to though.

They can atleast choose not to speak to those channels that ran defamatory propaganda against them. They can also sue websites, YouTubers etc for defamation and take legal action against abusive cyber bullies. They may not be able to act against politicians but boycotting certain media outlets and legal action against anchors and trolls is feasible.

Channels and websites running false, defamatory propaganda without proof or airing hate speech must fafe legal action and be boycotted. Industry took a stand in early 90s and many stats banned film magazines from sets and studios, stopped speaking to magazines like Stardust after the magazine published too many scandalous claims about stars including claiming a certain popular character actor was molesting minor sister of an actress.

Stars refused to do photo shoots and give interviews to film magazines then.

I feel industry should take similar stand now and sue channels, magazines, websites that publish baseless propaganda against them, their families or even attempt to link them to terrorism without any evidence.

The least they can do is to stop promoting their films, stop giving interviews to those godi media channels and websites and stop attending their awards and summits.

I see no reason why any self respecting actor or filmmaker would attend summits and awards by News 18, Zee News, Times Now or Republic.

The legal action was also a good thing as those channels did not dare air further shows against Bollywood after that.

See, Deepika does not need to clarify every allegation thrown at her. She did not say a word at JNU. She just went there. Same way any other star or ordinary citizen does not owe any explanation to trolls or partisan media for merely exercising their fundamental right to attend any protest or publish their views. Entire Punjabi film industry was supporting farmer protests and they owe no explanation to anyone if they are all labelled Khalistanis. They do not need to prove their nationalism to anyone.

Farhan, Javed, Swara do not need to prove their nationalism or respond to allegations of being paid etc just because they attend CAA protests.

Same way Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar owe no explanation to anyone why they support BJP, Modi nor does Lata Mangeshkar need to explain herself for praising Savarkar or meeting Mohan Bhagwat.

Artistes are citizens of a democratic republic and they have right to exercise their FoE, fundamental rights to attend any protest they want or support any political party or ideology they want.

I do agree Hrithik should have sued Kangana and media outlets. If I am not mistaken Roshans did file a case against Kangana earlier.

Any baseless allegations should be dealt with legal action and not merely ignored.

It is not about Shiv Sena or BJP or INC but any party or media crossing their limits in baseless targeting of any citizen.

For eg, Aamir should not just have clarified about that fake interview going viral but also sued the website that published a fake interview with communal statements attributed to him.

If websites, YouTube channels or other TV channels are not taken to cleaners then they will publish anything and incite hate against any public figure or misuse their names to incite communal hatred. They need to be held accountable so that they cannot carry on with their fake news factory unabated and they must know consequences of publishing anything on public platform.

While every BW actor is a soft target but there are some who evade the bullets by using the religious and Nationalism propaganda ....most of us know who they are..

SRK has taken the worst hit because of the hatred against him....the lies peddled by those in power against him are unbelievable....the one example that you gave....it was said by KRK...but it was photoshopped as SRK saying that...

There is a pic of SRK in a white T shirt...which is used by the haters...to photoshop different slogans on it against the ruling party..

The lie that SRK has given 45 crores to Pakistan comes up from time to time...

Another lie that SRK somehow orchestrated SSR's murder and watched it with close friends while having a party...

and the latest one..we all know....we are not allowed to discuss it here....but the message was loud and clear to BW....if we can do this to SRK....the rest of u are gajaar mooli...

I have been saying this for so many years now..that SRK is being targeted....but people thought I was delusional...well well well....we now know who was delusional...with all that happened recently...🤔

The targeting is real. Aamir's pics from Hajj are used to troll him. As if he did a crime by fulfilling wish of his mom by taking her for Hajj.

His wife and kids are trolled. There are all attempts to link Khans, Akhtars to ISI or Dawood.

Latest target are Punjabi, Southern and Bengali stars for their support to protests. Propaganda in full swing to call all Punjabi industry stars Khalistani or anti India.

Well if Rihanna can face a fake case for using child labour at Fenty Beauty in India just after her tweet on farmers then what is left to say on Bollywood?

Kamal Haasan is trolled all the time and people misjudge his religion in North because of his name. And keep attacking him though he is an atheist.

Aamir, Salman, SRK, Saif have been made poster boys of so called 'love jihad', 'population jihad', 'conversion racket'.

The amount of BS propaganda is unbelievable.

SRK has been on target ever since he made MNIK. Only one film and since then he is hated, portrayed as an agent or some mafia.

It is disgusting how film stars have to clarify what they even eat. Kajol had to delete a video from her Instagram few years ago and clarify it was not beef in that video. Huh? Why should anyone have to clarify what dish they ate anywhere?

Even cricketers were trolled when their menu was leaked when they were abroad. Like what? They were not in India then. They can eat whatever the hell they want anywhere, more so when they are abroad where no food is banned.

I think Salman did the right thing by suing KRK and Akshay did right thing by suing a YouTuber last year. Others should do same.

Silence or ignoring does not help. I read Geeta Bali's family was attacked and theatres were picketed when she joined films as members of her community objected to girl of their community being in films. She never talked about it. But I feel silence over all these decades has only made entertainment industry a softer target. They are worst sufferers of misogynist, bigoted, communal, casteist, racist and politically motivated targeting. They must speak about it and also expose those who try to blackmail them and extort money from them by attacking them and their films, web series, TV shows.

Enough of so called ignoring or 'dignified' silence. At some opportune time, filmmakers, writers and artistes must expose this pressure and ordeals they go through and expose so called ease of business, FoE, creative liberty, tolerance they get here.

I am sure brands are also fed up with targeting of companies and employees. They must unite with stars writers to expose and take a stand against baseless targeting and fake news against them.

Especially serious allegations such as linking someone to terrorism must be countered and dealt with, decisively.

The bigot brigade is foolish anyway. I laughed when Gulzar was first called Jihadi and later when people learnt his real name he was called Khalistani. LMAO! There can be umpteen satire films on these hate brigade.

In a Marathi interview once, Urmila said that even in the 90s media would threaten to tarnish reputations if you didn’t give interviews. I’m not sure how these things work now.
