Not quoting the whole thing.

The overwhelming of the U.S. started in March. The first patient in NY was diagnosed on March 5, 2020. The hosp ship arrived in last week of March before the hospitals had been overwhelmed.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/02/nyregion/ny-coronavirus-usns-comfort.html

(Published date April 2)

BTW, the hosp ship was present when Cuomo made that decision to send patients back to nursing homes.

I am a doctor and a former New Yorker. Because I still have friends and family there, I was in constant contact with personnel and am quite aware what the ground situation was. Lots of panic, no equipment, but not overwhelmed in terms of beds.

Also, Fauci was saying masks don't protect in early part of pandemic.

Trump was incompetent in handling the pandemic. No doubt. I'm not saying otherwise.

The contention that NY and CA were ignored is wrong, though. NY and CA were the 2 states which actually got hospital ships. NY had the money to buy equipment. So did CA. If the argument is about why should they, it doesn't cut it in a crisis. Basically, the suggestion here seems to be that Trump should've gotten equipment for NY at the expense of other states. Same argument that Michigan is now making and Biden is rejecting. Neither can do it because the U.S., thank God, is still a republic. Also, there wasn't much equipment TO be had.

NY's suffering is in large part due to Cuomo and his bad decisions.

Sorry, but the excuses given for Cuomo and the support of the valid reasoning behind Biden's refusal to supply extra vaccines to Michigan are striking me as the same "it's wrong when other team does it but right when ours does" excuse put about by the Modi supporters.

It's laughable to imagine Biden is punishing India for Modi's support of Trump.

It is equally laughable to assign THE SAME MOTIVE to Trump when there was no equipment to be had that he asked NY to pay for itself.

If there is a difference between the OP's claim Biden is punishing Modi and the claim that Trump was punishing blue states, I can't see it.

This is such a misinformed claim.

The U.S. is doing no such thing as arbitrarily refusing raw material. The government already paid for the vaccines even before the trials in the blind hope they will work. Which was the reason the companies were able to work so fast to get it done.

Now, the American government insists on vaccinating its own people first. It is as it should be. This ain't about aukat as OP stated or about power games. It is about doing what they were elected to do. Take care of Americans.

America and most of the West have also indemnified vaccine makers against adverse events.

India, in the meantime. Is playing games with vaccine makers. The babus in the government want to run their own trials for Moderna and Pfizer vaccines to prove they will work on Indians. As though Indians are a separate species!

Also, the government refuses to indemnify companies like the rest of the world is doing.

Pfizer first walked away from distributing in India at all because of the 2nd reason. Regardless, it will be a few months before those vaccines are available in India.

Remember, these are the 2 vaccines with 94 to 96% efficacy as opposed to the 52 to 76% of Covishield.

In the meantime, Indian government also decided to make a name for itself by distributing vaccines outside the country instead of taking care of its own people first. 60 plus millions doses were exported! Even in airplanes, they tell you to put your own mask first.

So instead of believing the blame game put out by government mouthpieces like Kangana, I'd recommend everyone start calling their MPs and giving them some choice French.

Yeah, how dare Biden not help us, breaking all agreements and protocols, after we voted for him TWICE as prime minister of India?? It's HIS responsibility to help us in this difficult time. Baaki of course the state governments are responsible.

Where are the Covishield vaccines? The raw materials from US is for Covovax vaccines which are still in trial period ,not even Covishield.
