But the point is Hindi very well could have been a common thread connecting all states.

West feels proud that they gave us illiterates English. Their words not mine.

oh, ok. I get it. ab you(the NI inside you) wanna feel proud that you gave HINDI to illiterate South Indians, right?đŸ€Ł

I'm ROFLing on this stupid topic matlab ye nahi I'm not aware of things happening around. its you who questioned/mocked SI for not interested in learning HINDI and how their ego hurts, but they dont have problem in learning ENGLISH and how they aren't outraged on english imposition. 'choice apna apna', kabhi suna nahi kya?

Why such sentiments were not there when English was being imposed. Why South Indians don't outrage over English.

Language is a medium to connect two individuals. If two citizens cant communicate because of one not knowing Hindi and other not knowing English, nation has failed simple.

I really don't get it either ... I mean Britishers made us go through hell for decades yet people aren't offended having "English" as one of the official languages ... while all hell breaks loose if one of the Indian languages is proposed to be a "National language" ... đŸ€”

North Indian states also have various languages ... (-Considering all states besides the 4 in South) Himachal, Kashmir, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, West Bengal, even UP and Bihar (Bhojpuri) ... all 7 sisters have different languages too ... So to think about it most of the states have their own language and "Hindi" isn't their mother tongue!

I don't mind regardless ... I do feel India can do good having a national language which gets communicated by ALL ... If not Hindi be it anything else ... doesn't matter .... May be how PM is elected, a national language can be elected too!

All the troop is giving their opinion . So, I might as well give my own .

I would like Hindi and respective regional language of the states to be made as a mandatory languages . My brother studied in Kendra vidyalaya, a central school . He only knows Hindi and English and doesn't know how to write in Telugu even though he is a Telugite. Make Hindi mandatory but not at the cost of regional languages.

Sab apni apni choice karne pe aagaye to country mast lagegi. đŸ‘đŸŒ the one who instigated this is south Indian... Always they (more so politician) are the first to get agitated to appease their crowd. You overlooked my point when I said north Indians also have their regional languages but hindi could possibly used as unifying factor. Rather than being united, SI are happy to belittle Hindi. 👏

The precise reason why we were easy to control. Britishers easily say fractions and they used it to their advantage. Things haven't change much to this date.

Thanks for putting it in non-confrontational manner. We might as well to put it on vote like brexit referendum.

'Learning English doesnt harm South Indians.. but Hindi oh well its beneath them... hurts their ego.'

Kamal Hassan is A south Indian. one person can never represent whole region. you can bash him how much you want. you/me have no right to point fingers on whole region.

colonization was not by choice though. English became an universal language by default.just like south American countries speak Spanish now due to Spain's colonization. And often it actually helps when a neutral language that doesn't belong to anybody any state exist cz it acts as a neutralizer. The reason biology scientific names n taxonomy were decided to be done in Latin bcz Latin is a dead language, Noone uses it in daily life. If any other language was selected rest of the linguistic groups would've been pissed.English imposition is not something any our living generation has seen first hand, thus it doesn't create a kneejerk reaction like Hindi imposition does bcz , it's a recent thing, it's our own people doing this, and India is a free democratic country now with 22 official languages

Similarly when u say Hindi should be must,Hindi should be National language, totally demeans other Indian languages. Then I as a bengali will say make Bengali must then too, tamilians will say make Tamil must too, gujaratis will say why not Gujarati. Giving one language importance over others just cz no of speakers is high doesn't make sense to me n never will. Forcing stuff on people never works
