1) Do you like shopping? To an extent. Why?
I like shopping when I know exactly what I want to buy. Window shopping and Retail Therapy are not my thing. I really get bored if I have to shop for more than 15 minutes in one go. That's why I only go shopping once in two months, and that too if I need something urgently. Otherwise shopping is a big no no for me.
2) Is shopping to cheer oneself a good thing or bad?
There is nothing bad in this world if it cheers up oneself. The most important thing in life is to be happy. And if that happiness comes from shopping, then I would certainly say it's a good thing. But yet again, there has to be a limit. It is not a convincing excuse for anyone to say 'I want to shop for the whole day long because it makes me happy.' There are also other things in life. Shopping cannot be the number one priority.
3) Is shopping another activity which reflects the great gender divide?
Though the majority of men don't enjoy shopping at all, there are some who do. And taking me as an example, there are also women in this world that don't. So I wouldn't say that all men hate shopping and all women love shopping....there are always exceptions.
4) What are the things you like to shop for and what do you hate buying? Is there a gender divide there as well?
I am a very athletic person, therefore I love buying any sport equipments, clothes, shoes, etc. Personally I really don't want to buy any make up. One reason is because I don't wear any. Another is because it takes away the natural beauty. I believe that a person with make up is, in a way, hiding their true self. It shows something which is not there. Accepting a person as they are is very important. And in today's world, most women and men are not doing so with a simple step....applying make up.
5) What is the best part about shopping and the worst? Shopping really teaches one what type of trend is in the world. It is a very good source to know what sort of things went out-dated, what sort of things are currently in high demand, and most importantly, what sort of things will do well in the future. In the core of it, shopping can help some business companies get to their best by predicting the likings in the future.
But shopping can be highly addictive too, if done frequently. Some people get so tied up into it that they forget their real lives. They forget that they have a family, friends, jobs, etc. So it's always good to go shopping, but be aware of the limit.
6) Which is the one thing that forces you go shopping - is it your mood..(Too happy or too sad)? Is it the time on hand? (Nothing to do so good time pass)? Is it the ads ( man this looks good I have to have this)? Is it sheer necessity ( I ran out of toothpaste or the fridge is absolutely bare), is it the money..( Got my pay check today..Lemme go and blow off some money!)
As I said earlier, I go out shopping only if I really need anything urgently. In other words, I'm shopping only if I can't live without a particular product.
7) Do you enjoy shopping for yourself or for others?
I like to keep shopping simple. And when I shop for others, it gets way complicated than I ever want it to be. I don't know what the other wants, therefore I have to search for all the possibilities, and then pick the best one. So for me, it's shopping for only myself. Because then I know what to get and where to get it. It involves no tension....whether the other person will like it or not, will it fit him/her or not??
Great questions Tally!👏 I got to know myself better as a person....got to think about issues that I have never thought of. And most importantly, I enjoyed answering all of them! Thank You Very Much!
Cheers,
Anjali
