I think you are missing some very fundamental historic implications about discussing racial issues. White people across the world are guilty of the same.

A soldier tasked to serve the head of state, or a hospital worker serving a patient is a very neutral act. It could be black serving white. White serving white. White serving black. Mixed serving mixed. There is no racial implication.

On the other hand colonizers believed their fair skin was superior to the darker skin of the native inhabitants. The imagery of dark skinned people serving white people in stereotypically slave/servant manner is deeply rooted in racism of the colonialists.

The two should not be mixed.

Nope.. like I said, it is about perspective. I didn't find anything racist about it. But it could be just me. The picture wouldn't have been any different had it been a white boy instead.

That is even worse.

What was the end result of that ad?

She is the Girlfriend of Roman Abromovich (One of the richest men in the world and the owner of Chelsea Football Club).

She issued an apology, although she continues to be criticised to date for the photo.

Kim K in the USA provoked sharp criticism with her scandalous photo shoot last year.
http://static.thefrisky.com/uploads/2014/11/13/goude-champagne-600x450.jpg (link maybe NSFW)

A lot of people were outraged that she played part in the racist fetishizing of African women. Considering she is married to a black man and is of mixed heritage herself. But then Kim K is as dumb as a door nail. I would have expected Ash to be smarter.

US still has heavy tones of racism. I mean segregation was the norm till the sixties. A country that still has a lot to learn.

The fact that India and Pakistan who struggled so much to overthrow colonialists still play party to racism is more shocking.

Its the eternal question - who is worse - a racist or a race traitor.

Ash could have strongly protested against it as bcause she has already spoken about fairness fetish among Indians..

The ad is distasteful because of two reasons - one slavery of children, second black serving white

@Kalyan Jewelers - its an awful ad, don't know whose brain child is this.

That is a U.S. marine holding an umbrella up for the U.S. president. Their skin colors is irrelevant. But this picture caused tins own controversy because if a marine can stand in the rain why couldn't the president. Counter argument would be rain all over the presidents face and suit would be too distracting in the middle of a news conference.

The picture in the ad depicts the old aristocratic white European practice of women shielding their faces from the sun because a tanned or dark skin was for lower class people.

The same thing happened in India too
Watch the clip of 26th January parade
Pranab Mukherjee and Narendra Modi were sitting under the umbrella
It looks odd however I would not take it deeply because the army is there at border despite cold, hostile atmosphere they protect us because its their job..and a part of job may be to offer protection from rain to the president or prime minister..
not much offence in that but yeah it can be debated too

Dude! It was an example. There are more.. like the one below. No one shouted racism when white people hold umbrellas for black people.

Well like you yourself said in your first post using a child in this context is bad enough. But then, was it just a coincidence that the boy ended up being that dark? Especially in the context of holding an umbrella for the very rich aristocratic fair skin looking Aishwarya?

I really don't know what Kalyan's marketing team was thinking?
