For you it might be "non-issue" but it is for most people especially black people who have endured hate and slavery for most part of history.

Ash is definitely handling this poorly. So what if she was "unaware" of how her photo would be used. She should at least apologize and condemn the ad.
I want to give her benefit of the doubt, but I suspect she knew exactly what the ad would be. If she condemns or speaks against Kalyan Jewelers now, they will slam back with that fact. That is why I think she is using a flaky middle path.

IMO Ash has always come off as a bit pretentious and uptight about her beauty. It doesn't surprise me if she wholeheartedly agreed to emulate some "gori memsaab". Her whole visit to USA, Oprah interview et al was her pretending to be a white Hollywood celeb.

I feel like she probably didn't say anything b/c she probs didn't see the picture or get the full details. I do hope she codemns it and says more than passing the message to Kalyan. I'm pretty sure that was her PR's response.
Either way, it's in bad taste and Kalyan needs to apologize. I don't think Aish agreed to this particular type of endorsement and she does have enough power and influence to put her foot down--and I wanna see her do exactly that.

Dude! It was an example. There are more.. like the one below. No one shouted racism when white people hold umbrellas for black people.

PLEASE educate yourself a bit more on this matter. An ad that romanticise a forgone era of aristocracy with a system based on inequality, is in no way remotely close to modern day situations of WILLING adults PAID to do a job they CHOSE to apply for.

There is NO excuse whatsoever for it & the explanation her team came up with makes the situation even more offensive.
Just FYI, Aish has fans of the same complexion as that boy & it is mindblowing that her team didnt veto her pics before they were released, or that no one thought it might be offensive! I like Ash but she gets no pass on this. Apologies are in order😵

Get a life guys. Sure you have more to do than write these dumb open letters.

Here is the pic taken. What is done with it in POST is not in the artist/model's hand.

He just made the whole situation worse if that was even possible. Calling people dumb & what not when they have valid concerns is just undefensible.
This thing is turning into a PR nightmare of the worst kind. Hopefully it will force India to think about the colorism issue that is the norm in the society.
Needless to say, his movie is off my timeline.
The side eye is eternal.

She isn't playing a Brit or an American here. How is this racism then?

If I'm not wrong those aren't Sanjay Gupta's tweets, those are Aish's publicist Archana Sadanand's tweets RTed by Sanjay Gupta.

May be for you the skin colour matters, and hence is an issue. Not for me because that boy could be of any colour and it'd make little difference.

Because it is representing a foregone era where aristocrats like the one she is playing owned slaves like that boy.

There are many europeans old pics that depict the exact same scene like this ad, pics from slavery times.

The open letter was spot on.
