Ha!
BULLSHIT.
The history is entirely contorted.
I see how India has fooled everyone including myself.
My history is NOT Khalistani history. That history has been on from times of Gurus and was there in Undivided India also.
What do you know about Sikhs? Sikhism always suffered resistance and opposition and lot of bloodshed.
Rumours used to be spread about Gurus. They had both Hindu and Muslim followers. Yet certain people from both communities used to complain to ruling emperors and nawabs against them.
Add to this the usual disgruntled lot that any community faces, Sikhism has faced extreme resistance.
Gurudwaras used to get razed. Sometimes some placed idols in gurudwaras, sometimes someone butchered animals in front of gurudwaras to bully and shame the Sikhs and make different claims about our Gurus.
Abdali comprised with even some Muslim and Hindu rulers but not Sikhs. Sikhs never comprised and therefore had most people butchered.
I am not surprised that people who don't even know how to spell our Gurus' names correctly have the gall to talk about our people and history!
Attempts to bully and subvert Sikhism or eliminate it completely are not new.
Forcibly cutting their hair, dragging them by their hair, making jokes about them, raping their women, trying to encourage their rebels and faithless men it has all happened.
Sikhs were already a young religion and hence in minority but after constant butchering they were reduced to even more minority.
No surprise that Indian history books never highlight a proper Sikh freedom fighter. Master Tara Singh etc were proper Sikhs but no book or serial or film mentions them. Instead they take Bhagat Singh who cut his hair and spread bullshit like Mona Sardar theory and the shit they teach outside Punjab on Sikhism.
So many things were done later to muzzle Sikhism. The Punjab which is in Pakistan now, they passed some law there banning Jhatka meat! Though Sikhs are against Halal meat.
Sikhs have had to fight for their freedom and identity all the time.
When elections were conducted on communal basis, Government only thought of Hindus and Muslims. Sikhs being in minority either got no say, or they tried to divide them, lure them in different ways.
You think Partition is as black and white as they show in films?
Heck! People of different communities were calling to kill each other.
We have had to fight to get control of gurudwaras, keeping our faith own way. Struggle to get SGPC.
Then Arms Act was passed due to which Sikhs were banned from keeping kirpan. We had to struggle against that law also.
Finally, they allowed Sikhs to keep kirpan, albeit of small length.
Sikhs here were struggling to fight for identity and own place. But rest of the Sikhs were now homeless and refugees due to Partition, simply wanted to be safe. And hence Sikhs often couldn't be united and had to suffer immense bullying. No wonder they ignored this minority and made us a non entity and went ahead to label Sikhs under Hindus and went ahead without bothering to geta Sikh ratify the Constitution!
Till date Sikhs live in fear and don't tell much of history to their kids. Simply because they do not want their children to die or grow up in fear or hate.
Punjab doesn't have its own capital or HC.
Those times were pathetic. Everybody was trying to meddle with other community, trying to meddle with identity.
Since homes, ancestral lands and family members were lost, many lived in fear and wouldn't talk, some took the bait and betrayed own communities, some simply gave up religion, some converted, some kept up faith personally but quietly bore all abuse just to remain alive.
Terrorism? Fighting for even basic rights like gurudwaras, articles of faith, language etc is not terrorism!
So many were killed, literature was banned or burnt.
Bhindranwale was created by Indira to wreck the Sikh rights movement and get an excuse to further create paranoia within Sikhs and fear against Sikhs in other communities.
They even put up fakes disguised as real, baptised Sikhs causing violence!
So much so that often Sikhs stopped taking Amrit, cut their hair or changed names to avoid being clubbed with violent ones.
The real history of Sikhs remained limited to Punjab and outside it was changed. Those who don't even understand what Khalsa means and stands for, now equate real Sikhs, Sikh history with extremists.
What to expect from those who yelp Congress or British created Sikhs?!
Every Sikh who talked of basic rights was then labelled a Khalistani. And I am not surprised that someone here did the same to me when he called my talk on history of Gurus as Khalistani version.
The demonisation of proper Sikhs, their appearance, articles of faith, the pressure to conform, the fear of being killed or persecuted was in full swing.
And then of course those simple tactics, like that teacher who called out to my uncle for not wearing rakhi. Or the classmates who used to mock my father and pulled his hair and turban.
Exert ALL KINDS OF PRESSURE to CONFORM. Or else keep making fun of them.
Khalsa was created not just to fight against Islam! It was created to fight for own self defense also.
Sikh Gurus were not just fakirs or warriors or rebels or whatever that faltu history books claim outside Punjab.
The scholarship and principles of Sikh Gurus have been ignored.
A Sikh doesn't just serve, believe in welfare for all or fight for others only. A Sikh keeps own dignity too and a real Sikh used to rather die than forsake his faith.
And indeed the real Sikhs kept dying while fakes or converts are posing as Sikhs. Or there are ones like my own family who follow faith but lived in fear. And still remain silent.
Then there's greedy ones like Badals who will even participate in rituals forbidden by Sikhism, just to get political mileage.
I am shocked why Sikhs outside Punjab didn't protest against raddi version of history taught in those schools.
But they were few and already demonised due to 1984, so they must have kept quiet.
Ideally all Sikhs should have united to protest this. But when there is every attempt to rob you of your identity or else suffer and when you have suffered centuries of persecution then what to do?
Some few who used to talk, scared and scarred people like us hesitated to support them.
There are reasons why Muslim and Sikh actors changed names and appearances to join film industry. And that is the sheer communal strife all the time and at its peak in freedom struggle and post Partition.
Is it any surprise Bhindranwale hid inside Golden Temple? Sikhs used to and STILL do criticise this!
My family has lived through all times be it Pre independence or 1984.
All this shaming, mocking, discrimination, fake promises, fakes posing as Sikhs, mocking etc, they know it all.
We have seen all these movements. Nobody knows the politics around Sikhs better than the ones who were affected.
They knew he was there but they deliberately chose their festive occasion to attack the Golden Temple and butchered everyone mercilessly. Even children had petrol put in their mouths, dragged by hair, had burning tyres placed around their necks, women were raped in front of own kids, gurudwaras were razedor rumours were spread that gurudwaras have terrorists, weapons etc. Sikhs outside Delhi and Punjab in other parts of India were also targetted.
What Sikh President if he was locked in Rashtrapati Bhawan and had all communication lines cut?
Congress is not anti Hindu. Rather it is anti minorities and has made a fool of minorities. Time to time somehow create clashes, riots, then create total fear psychosis in minorities.
Post 1984, the Sikhs had to face so much discrimination in jobs and elsewhere. Forgetting they were victims too!
No real Sikh likes Zail Singh or Manmohan! Congress successfully pitted minorities also against own people.
Is it any surprise that Zail Singh was Prez back then? For Sikh victims he is a shame. For rest of India KPS Gill might be super cop but for INNOCENT VICTIMS (not actual criminals) he is a shame.
Congress has made fooling people a FINE ART.
They made Ambedkar the Law minister and so called Father of Constitution but does it mean Dalits were not oppressed in India or there was no discrimination?
Even today, people can blame Manmohan and make a joke of him despite knowing Gandhis made him mere nominal head and ignore his work as an economist. I never saw the extent of respect for him as an economist as I saw the disgust and mockery for him as a puppet PM!
They make so called leaders from apparently each community but keep him or her a puppet only.
BJP is same. Didn't they have a Muslim President when 2002 happened?
The art of fooling is the same.
It is easily said that even Hindus were killed. But the discrimination and demonisation and further reduction in already small population is faced by minority only!
Punjab itself is proof of how minorities are liquidated, fears are instilled, concerns ignored or people are asked to tolerate silently. Like I gave examples of how Gurudwaras and Guru Granth Sahib are desecrated or someone puts posters of Hindu Gods outside Gurudwara walls etc and when people complain, no one listens.
But if someone takes matters in own hands to take action he or she is called extremist, criminal, Talibani, crazy Sardar etc.
Minority appeasement MY FOOT!
Entitlement and all is a joke.
Sikhs haven't even been given their own identity. Forget so called entitlement.
We have fooling tactics of government in place. A woman president or PM means India doesn't discriminate against women. A puppet Prez, PM or CM from a minority community means we don't have any discrimination.
Different history is taught outside each state. Words like Bhai bhai or unity are thrown around and unsuspecting people don't know what "bhai" actually means.
It does not make a difference when Modi wears a turban and sirpopa when he campaigns amongst Sikhs. But it makes a world of difference in perception if even a so called Sikh like Badal or Sidhu participates in Hindu rituals.
These guys already teach shit history outside Punjab, already have Sikhs under Hindus in Constitution, and now started throwing colours on Sikh festivals like Holla Mohalla, putting idols or posters of other faiths outside or even inside gurudwaras. On top of it if even so called Sikhs like Badal or Sidhu are shown indulging in rituals that faith doesn't follow, then what is left?
It is evident what kind of people are given fame. Ones who changed names, hid identity, like Dilip Kumar, Gulzar, Jagjit Singh, Madhubala, Meena Kumari became legends. Khans have to show that they don't follow only Islam alone. SRK has to tell he has Ganpati idol at home, Salman has to tell he celebrates all festivals!
NO PERSON from minority who follows his faith devoutly is given limelight or good position. Manmohan cuts his beard, Kalam follows cults like Brahmakumaris!
Punjab government bans songs on Partition and 1984. Their textbooks avoid history of Master Tara Singh and others and the movement to get own state atleast. But easily allow songs branding Punjabis and Sikhs as drunkards and meat eaters. We have holiday on Holi but not our Holla Mohalla. Birth and death anniversaries of other Sikh Gurus are not celebrated except by couple of gurudwaras.
All these Sikhs who are shunned from own family or cut hair are made stars or given other positions.
People love to twist words of Gurbani and quote selectively.
Guru Gobind Singh ji wrote - "Ram Rahim Puran Kuran anek kahen mat ek NA maneyo".
What our history and baani is, others don't need to tell us. Our Gurus talked of unity, talked of others also but only as an example, Gurbani has references to Allah also but ultimately a Sikh is not one of others.
Not that Sikhs don't know what issues they faced or still face.
Just that they remain silent.
Some of us get disillusioned and avoid any talk of religion altogether. I know everything about my people and religion. But I remain silent. If I had it my way I'd wish away all religions.
Some of us don't know because nobody told us anything. Some know but just want to follow faith personally. Avoid trouble. That thing called "roti" and survival matters.
There are forms especially of unis and orgs outside Punjab where they don't even have Sikh in category. And we are forced to either leave it or tick against Hindu even if we do not want to.
I asked my relatives why doesn't anyone protest? They want me to forget it. If anyone protests or raises voice he or she gets little support because we are minority. And we don't want any disturbance or "khoon kharaba" again.
Sikhs and Sikhism were never against Islam or Hinduism only. They had followers but also enemies from all sides.
Why shouldn't I blame Punjab Government when it takes action selectively? When it remains silent on desecration of gurudwaras and defiling of the Granth Sahib but takes action against those who want to stop it?
Every minority lives in fear. Contrary to what you would like to believe.
No one bothers about lollipops like puppet PMs, CMs or whatever.
2 years ago, a doctor from Kashmir got 1st rank in IAS. Now? You want this to make me and the world believe that all is well in Kashmir?
I still remember there was this fashion designer who was a turbaned Sikh. Since few years now he has cut his hair.
People's faiths have become a joke now. Pressure to "amalgamate", "assmilate" or giving illusion that all is well whereas something else is on.
Even in Punjabi cinema they don't keep a real Kaur or Singh. But the ones with cut hair, or no turbans. Or turbans worn like caps.
If some Sikhs wear Sindoor or mangalsutra or go to dargahs, churches etc it doesn't mean that's what their faith teaches.
On national news channels, there are no proper Sikhs as editors or news readers. Often not even correspondents.
Every region has own channels so people everywhere keep believing all is well.
NO ONE is questioned more for loyalty and nationalism than a MINORITY.
I bet that KPS Gill would have been murdered if he had refused any order or exercised even little restraint.
In this very thread only, some have asked me whether I am an Indian or not or do I live abroad or what kind of history I follow. đ¤˘
People easily use phrases such as, "If you want anything then prove your merit!"
These were the same words that were used to defend discrimination against women all around the world. There's no dearth of women scientists, writers, philosophers etc whose work was ignored, whose names were deleted.
No one will ask anything if discrimination is not at all there. Stop judging people on their identity then!
There was a time when even meritorious Sikhs weren't appointed as profs in colleges ironically named after Sikh Gurus. Even in Panjab University itself, Sikhs weren't appointed as Heads of department despite high merit and years of experience. Particularly the proper Sikh. TILL DATE PU HAS NOT HAD A SIKH AS VICE CHANCELLOR. Neither proper Sikh nor one with cut hair.
In my own school, ironically named after Guru Nanak, and where Sikh history used to be taught, they didn't appoint the proper baptised Sikh teacher as Principal or Vice Principal or even HOD.
Don't tell me all years of service and academic achievements don't matter! Or somehow amount to less merit!
Minorities are accused of entitlement but in reality they face discrimination.
Tell me HONESTLY, would these people appoint someone on merit even if it were a woman, minority or Dalit?
Had merit been given its due then there would be no reservation.
In eyes of an outsider, Sikhs might be prosperous. But what kind of Sikhs are, it's evident.
I admit I have not faced difficulties growing up. But that so called comfort has been built on silence, compromise and fear of our grandparents and parents.
And still some people say minorities are great here or pampered or have too many demandw or blah blah.
Muslims and Christians labelled as outsiders. And Sikhs insidiously labelled Hindus only. Atleast the ones who originated here shouldn't have got this treatment.
Those Sikhs who follow Sikhism in true essence have always been made fun of or ignored or discriminated against.
So much so that their own ilk started to remain away. I know. I myself have done this.
People celebrate birth and martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh not even knowing what he died for.
Many of us know we have not followed our Guru. We feel that shame and still go ahead for so called roti and survival.
People were fighting amongst each other in "India" itself. There was no clear cut foreign vs us.
But great historians want us to believe otherwise.
Regional and national textbooks tweaked. People from few communities given lollipops. Other demands are dismissed as asking for more or being pampered. Anybody else having problems should shut up, suck it up, move on or get labelled as Anti Indian, or get mocked as an extremist, unstable, fool etc.
The PRESSURE TO CONFORM is REAL in India. Why did Rajinikanth have to change his name? Would they accept Shivaji Rao Gaekwad as it is in Tamil Nadu?
Intentions behind history, media, film industry and subtle discrimination in appointments, media coverage etc is proof enough of policies India has.
I can see how they are taking off statues of regional freedom fighters.
Any evidence of regional unrest, specific regional concerns, struggles and resistance is being removed. Evidence of regional and community leaders' differences with Gandhi and Nehru are being slowly finished.
We have to believe all is or was well and anybody who had differences earlier or now is a terrorist/extremist/anti national/selfish blah blah.
Today when Sikh bodies protest whenever their community is portrayed wrongfully, they are mocked. I've seen on IF also how people used to joke why "these Sikhs always have problem".
You want us to believe minorities' rights are protected? The same deras that lured many, insulted Sikh Gurus and teachings and even made crazy followers castrate themselves have no action taken against them and are instead being used as vote banks.
And just because aam aadmi is fed up of fighting and doesn't want to suffer what ancestors did, so he keeps it personal, keeps quiet or just goes on with life.
There are still attacks on North east Indians in many parts of India even now. Media reports once or twice. Rest ignored. People either protest or go on with lives for sake of survival and fear of further persecution or tension.
Still people say minorities have it all.
Assimilation, amalgamation or whatever means chucking your identity and faith?
I remember only recently there was a racist attack on a Sikh schoolboy in US and Indian media reported it, and comments on TOI were so indicative of the attitude! Mocking, bashing the community or calling them even terrorists.
Had the same happened to a non Sikh then tone of comments would be different.
I always believed people perhaps didn't have as many differences as it's said.
I have seen all kinds of people. But didn't realise people had such kind of thoughts in their minds.
No wonder people feel so suffocated.
Minorities in India live like the tongue amidst teeth. As long as "in its place" it is okay. Otherwise get bitten. FACT. That ONLY a minority knows but won't speak of because he or she doesn't want TENSION (ie, violence, mocking, accusations of being anti Indian, thankless etc).
Funny how if people get something. They are supposed to be thankful. If they ask full rights WITHOUT ANY discrimination, they are being thankless, anti national or special privileges.
What is the meaning of being thankful? Apne hi desh mein ehsaan chadha rahe ho kya? Why? Is it not our birthplace?
When rulers use words like "big tree falls, earth is bound to shake" or "let them take out anger and frustration" you know what state of minorities is like.
I have many friends of all communities but it doesn't mean I do not know the problem. Ultimately you're just asked to be silent or forget it. Or you yourself get frustrated and leave it.
This thread's comments. The use of words like "claims", "rants", the mockery, laughs, the generalisation of Gurudwaras in the West etc has taught me a lot. And is evident of how people think of minorities.
I understand now why my father and uncle remained silent when their turbans, hair were pulled or forcibly threads were tied to their wrists. Bolte toh pata hi tha kya hona hai.
Militants, rioters, kill everyone. But it is only the minority that gets generalised, discriminated against and bears the brunt of being answerable, bears further pressure to forsake its identity to "prove" itself as "not the other".
BTW, it is Guru Tegh Bahadur. Not "Tej" or "Jeth" Bahadur. Atleast respect their names if you can't respect their identity.
