Howdy!

The context was that brahmins either palced themselves or were put in an exalted position which gave them an air of superiority which is not easy to relinquish; the same as how those in power find it hard to give up control (perceived or real)

It is true that this is global in nature, not just applicable to one group.

How is it justified to punish people of this generation for something that may have been done by their ancestors?

Zorro - The blame on the ancestors can be only to a point , nothing justifies current generation indulging in social bifurcation on the basis of caste with the kind of social awareness and education available now. for example - current generation still chastising inter-caste marriage, or mocking people from different caste.

Agreed. Not only the social awareness and education we also have laws to deal with it and yet somehow the problem persists. It is more of a law and order problem in that case. Vote bank politics will ensure that such divisions continue as it suits their purpose.

Nothing. That was being over-emotional on Rehan's part, I guess. But the point is, the ancestral wrongs were too great to expect to be remedied just by laws. Reservation is not the evil, the way its being used as a trump card by political parties. Reservation in its present form is serving to divide the society even further and even promoting caste enmity among the urban youth.
