I don't think that maturity is directly proportional to age, but these two entities are surely proportional to each other in one way or other.
The dictionary says that maturity is "full development; perfected condition". Now, I genuinely don't think that a 13 year old has had enough experiences in her/his life to be in a perfected condition. Of course, we meet 40-50 year old people who make worse decisions than a 15 year old might, but that does not necessarily make the younger one mature. It only shows the immaturity of the older one. 😉
The one opinion that I see on rise today is that kids are maturing faster than they used to 20 years ago. I absolutely don't think so. Maybe, they are exposed to more things than before and they are expected to be mature soon, but most of the times, these teens are not mature. They think that they are and eventually form an opinion that they know-it-all and that leads to trouble.
I think I am quite mature but I won't say that I have attainted maturity in the truest form because I have not had my share of good/bad experiences yet. It is wrong to expect maturity at young age in most cases. Of course, generalizations are wrong... I have seen some really immature oldies and some classy mature youngesters 😊.
